Went to Joes this past Saturday. I was really looking forward to this dinner as I have read many great reviews on this site. All I can say is you must be kiddinig me. The food ...

Great gourmet food that isn't absurdly expensive :) 4/8/2007

I went to Joe's last night with some cousins visiting from out of town. We didn't plan to go there, but Primitivo was too busy, and Joe's looked good and had a table. We all loved it! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The bartenders were great too. I plan to take my parents here the next time they're visiting! more

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE 2/17/2007

My wife and I have been to Joe's three times. Every time it has sucked. I kept wanting to like it because of the high Zagat rating, but it's a scam. The service has been awful all three times. The food is mediocre. The atmosphere is noisy. Tonight I ordered the Beef Braised ribs. It was seriously one ounce of meat and 9 ounces of pure fat. Unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating. The meal was a 120 dollars. I definitely won't be going back. I would have enjoyed a corn dog from a convenient store more. And I'm a foodie. Cons: It's bad more

Nothing bad to say 2/12/2007

My boyfriend and I ate at Joe's for the first time on a Saturday night. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere pleasant. I have no complaints about this restaurant. I highly reccommend the mushroom ravioli appetizer and the African pheasant entree. They were about as good as food gets. Will definitely go back. Great place to impress a date. Pros: Service, Food, Whole experience Cons: nothing more

A terrific experience at Joe's 1/26/2007

I've never written a review here before, but feel compelled to do so now to let you know what a wonderful experience we had at Joe's the other night. I had east coast family in town who really enjoy and know good food, and I suggested going to Joe's. The experience could not have been better. more

Don't eat at Joe's 1/3/2007

Sadly, the days when this restaurant provided the most beautiful food and impeccable service are over. In my last 4-5 visits I've seen such a lapse in quality, in organization, in plating, and in attitude that it's hardly recognizable as the same place. Apparently they've lost chefs and servers and it shows. On our last visit to the restaurant (late December '06) it was a train wreck from start to finish--long waits, cold food or tasteless food, mixed up orders, and such shocking rudeness when we expressed our disappointment to the maitre'd that we have vowed never to return. I miss the old Joe's! more

good dinner, brunch was so-so 12/12/2006

I came here for my birthday and really enjoyed the lobster. My friends ordered the steak, and that was a huge success too - it was cooked perfectly. I decided to come back for brunch with my parents, but I was disappointed. We had a semi fixed menu, with potato leek soup (yummy), the rock shrimp gnocchi (which is better at Jiraffe) and my parents ordered the huevos rancheros, which was average. I recommend this place for dinner, but not for brunch. Pros: good lobster! Cons: waiter was creepy more

Nice high-end French fusion place 11/21/2006

I came here for a special occasion once and we were served their tomato soup which was probably the best I've ever had. Our meal came with some bread with a minced olive spread that was simply delicious! Our main courses were on the small side but it wasn't too expensive. I'd come back to try some of their other meals. Cons: valet more

lunch special is a good value 10/26/2006

i thought the service was pretty bad. the food was good but not excellent..a little pricy for what it was... Pros: outdoor patio is nice Cons: food, service more

Wonderful. Most innovative food in LA 9/12/2006

I can't say enough about this place. The food is inspired, inspiring and amazing. Joe Miller is a true professional and a good man. I eat here on a regular basis and consider it the very best, maybe top three restuarants I have ever been to. Pros: Everything! Cons: Can be crampy sometimes. Ask for a corner table. The bar is great during the week more

Wonderfully knowledgeable and gentlemanly bartender, lovely food and presentation 9/8/2006

I love this place. I normally go for the wine and dessert or cheese. It is usually quieter than Primitivo next door and a whole lot more pleasant experience as well. I love the bartender, he is polite, quick-witted and prompt. The atmosphere here is elegant and casual at the same time. The bar is very small which is both a plus and a minus depending on whether or not I have a seat! I have seen chefs from other restaurants eating here so that in itself is probably the ultimate compliment. Pros: Ambience, small intimate bar more

Great way to spend the evening 6/2/2006

This place has got to be one of the better restaurants that I've been to in a while. Everything was fabulous from the meal to the decor(including the outside patio with the trickling waterwall). It makes for a calming scene and makes for a romantic evening as well. I ordered the snapper which was quite delicious and my gf and I shared the chocolate escape which was especially exquisite. I eagerly anticipate the next time we get the opportunity to go back. Pros: Food, Dessert, Service Cons: Parking more

Joe - Missing in Action 12/20/2005

This used to be my favorite restaurant in LA - always excellent food that you knew would be exquisitely prepared once you saw Joe manning the kitchen. The last time I was there was a few months ago (with clients). It was a warm night and the A/C was not working so the room was like 90 degrees. Not only was the air conditioning AWOL, so was Joe (apparently he runs a catering business)! The food, in a word, was TERRIBLE! The kitchen couldn't even prepare a simple meat dish to order (client asked for well-done and got medium rare). We ended up refusing to pay for two of the four meals, it was that bad. Huge disappointment! Joe, wherefor art thou? more

Nice Place 12/15/2005

I went here on a date and it was an excellent experience. The food was excellent (but not life-changing). Service was great. Wine list is excellent. Atmosphere is intimate yet bustling. Parking is a challenge - it's best to valet it. Pros: Good Food, Atmosphere Cons: Pricey more

Great Service, Great Food, Great Value 9/11/2005

My wife and I held our wedding rehearsal lunch at Joe's and it was wonderful. The pre-fixe $25 lunch was universally reviewed by our guests as the best of the many meals we ate before and after the wedding that weekend. Everywhere else we went with a large group it seemed a little chaotic - at Joe's they were a smooth running machine and we ate like kings for a great price. Pros: Delicious food, Great service more

Best Brunch - Great Value 8/22/2005

Joe's has the best Sunday brunch I've found in 16 years in LA. If they never changed the menu it wouldn't matter since there are so many fine selections available. Not cheap, but actually inexpensive in comparison to most LA brunch venues. Pros: Great Food more

Love the lunch 8/5/2005

Such a bargain, and tastes farmers market fresh. Creative cuisine that still makes you feel at home. Friendly, if a bit leisurely, service. more

GREAT AGAIN!!! 5/25/2005

When we first came here a few years ago this restaurant served incredible food. Then they expanded and our experiences were rather incosistent during our last few visits. Recently there was a review of this place in the times that mentioned that something seemed to be missing, "" maybe it's Joe,"" wrote the critic. Well, he was there tonight greasing hands a la Wolfgang Puck, AND THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! OUR SERVER, GREG, RECOMMENDED THE BEST DISHES AND MADE FANS OF US AGAIN!!! everything was delicious and Joe has earned our business back. THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!!! Pros: GREAT FOOD, PRO STAFF, AFFORDABLE more

A Disaster Waiting to Implode 1/28/2005

By the end of our excruciating evening at Joe's, we had waited over 2 hours for an average meal and been rudely 'waited' on by 5 people, each sought out after our table was ignored. No explanation was given for the inept service, other than 'the restaurant was busy', which was a falsehood unless you happened to glance outside the restaurant to observe the 'valet,' which looked something akin to a scene out of 'Indep. Day.' After being abandoned by our original waiter, the Maitre'D, in an inexplicably def. manner, opted to 'comp' us for a phantom dessert upon which time the WATER GUY presented a new bill, with a lingering drink and truffles which nobody had ordered. Per having been lauded in multiple reviews, most like venues deserve a 2nd try; Joe's deserves nothing until it can work to ensure that no table is left rudely behind. Pros: Dining Room Cons: Service more

Great Brunch!!! 1/19/2005

I recently went to Joe's for a bridal shower brunch and had a blast. The food was excellent and a great value. People of all ages were there though a majority was late 20's early 30's. Will definitely dine here again! Pros: Great Prices Cons: , Semi Snooty Service more

Oh No for Joe 11/5/2004

This place is horrible..salty small portions of food...we waited 45 minutes for our 8:00 reservation and we were even a few minutes early. :( and the manager was rude. Pros: ummmm, drinks, patio Cons: , rude staff, bad food more
