This place is great! Love the atmosphere, the cafeteria style food pick up, and the incredibly efficient staff. We got there and the line was nearly out the door, within 15 minutes we were eating our food. I have been going there for nearly 10 years now and have never been disappointed. more

Best BBQ I've had... 9/6/2008

Quite simply the best BBQ I've eaten. I've been lucky enough to try great BBQ from coast to coast as I've driven cross country numerous times, and Joe's is as good as it gets. For the record Joe's actually ?dethrones? my childhood favorite, Tyler Texas (or Dr. Hogley Wogley's Tyler Texas in Van Nuys, CA) as my new #1! Great food, great atmosphere, and dirt cheap to boot. You really can't go wrong at Joe's. Pros: GREAT BBQ, low prices, homebrewed root beer, location, ambience Cons: our last couple of visits the ?service? offered by the very young staff has been less than srellar more

Nothing like it! 6/28/2008

This is by far the best place to eat. Their meats are slowly barbecued with pecan wood and smothered in their special sauce; every bite just melts in your mouth. My particular favorite is their pulled pork. It's always hard to pass up their baked potatoes, too...I usually don't even like baked potatoes! But they fully load these giants, and when you top them off with their sweet onions, barbeque sauce, and a nice portion of pulled pork, it's enough to convert anyone. Their home-made root beer is a must-try, and every single one of their desserts is phenomenal. \r The atmosphere is nostalgic, a back to the good ol' country days feel, and I love to just sit back and relish in it.\r I moved from Arizona a few years ago, but every time I visit, I go out of my way to eat here. I HATE BBQ... 5/3/2006

...but I LOVE JOE'S! The only thing that would make it better would be pitchers of ice cold beer. You get a lot of bang for your buck--not the most romantic setting, but folks, it's BBQ! I suppose it could have it's own date charm if you did it right. Large portion servings; meats are tender and flavorful; great sauce that you can spice up as mild or hot as you want; the side dishes...beans, which I normally avoid like an STD--to die for; cheesy potatoes...even the corn is specially tasty. And let's not forget the condiment bar; the sweet-heat of the onion relish really adds a wonderful dimension of flavor to everything on the menu. Famous Dave's has nothin' on this place! more

Best BBQ ever to date 6/3/2005

The ambience is ecclectic with down-home on the farm old-time charm. The BBQ is excellent and I highly recommend the pulled beef brisket sandwich. The baked beans are wonderful. Even the drink menu, although simple, is great. They offer both fountain home-style root beer which has a very strong flavor reminiscent of sasparilla and red cream soda which is unparalled in my book. The place reminds me of eating at the fair as a kid. The food is absolutely great. The pecan flaveored meats are very tasty and portions are great. The rootbeeer and cream soda are great too. The beans are the best of all. My husband and I come for the beans and ham. The loaded baked potatoes are great too. One thing is for sure. You don't leave hungry. Not good after bad news 9/29/2004

This place is near my CPA's office, so I tend to go there after revisiting my company's dismal finances all morning. Maybe it is because I only go there after bad news, but I haven't had much luck at Joe's. I like the old fashioned root beer, but the food is what I would call barbeque slop. This is cafeteria-style, and while the dining area is nice enough, I hated the assemgly-line feel and the a la carte pricing, especially after bad financial news. My CPA says he never goes there for lunch, that the line makes him think of cafeteria food, and if you think it, that's what you get. Good, but not great 4/30/2004

The links and ribs were quite tasty, the sauce was good, the cole slaw and corn were good, and the lemon cake was good. Unfortunately, the potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked and the homemade root beer left a bizarre aftertaste. After moving here from Texas 5 years ago, I've been searching for good barbecue. Joe's doesn't live up to Rudy's in Texas, but it definitely hit the spot, and we'll be back. Overall, an A- dining experience. Pros: meats, ambiance, menu selections more

Remarkable BBQ 2/7/2004

My girlfriend and I came to this restaurant to see what the fuss is all about. We were impressed. The food was tasty and we came home with 2 regular bottles of BBQ sauce and a jumbo (gallon) bottle. We took it home with us to LA and made BBQ ribs for my girlfriend's family and friends in SD. It was a hit! The menu was easy to follow and no-nonsense. The house root beer was wonderful, the jumbo potato was grand, and the ribs, pulled pork, and chicken with their signature BBQ sauce were incredible. We drove back to our hotel saying how glad we were for checking it out (we drove all the way over to Gilbert from shopping at Scottsdale earlier that day). REALLY THE BEST!!! 1/11/2004

I've gone to many barbecue places, but Joe's beats them all. Not only do they have the best ribs and sliced meats, but their side dishes push it over the edge. Sometimes I go just to get a side of their awesome beans. It looks like there are about 10 bean types in the beans not to mention sausage and meat. Their super huge baked potatoes are to die for and the lemon cake for dessert is perfect. You can wash it all down with homemade root beer. Hankering for BBQ? 4/16/2003

If a exceptional barbeque is what you need, then look no farther then Joe's Real BBQ. However no need to wear dress clothes here, this is in an old western building situated in old-town Gilbert with cafateria style ordering. But don't be fooled by the buildings ruggish decorations, if you can even call them that, to have some sort of effect on the food. All of the plates served are quite filling, and taste wise will intoxicate you into not being able to move after finishing. From their home-made rootbeer, to their home-made bbq sauce, the tastes are one of a kind. Plates include anywhere form a briskette burger, to a potatoe and meat combo, up to a 2 entree combo with 2 sides (and all for under $10 a person), don't forget to have apple sauce as a side, it is good enough to make grandma blush.
