Now My Wife Is Happy with The Puppy 9/16/2011

Hi we're Chris and Sara and we have 3 kids We got our new puppy Kiwi. She was born on mother's day and we got her on July 4th. My wife says that was the day she lost her independence. So we were so grateful to have Jim here helping us to regain our independence. We've learned a lot of new things with Kiwi She's learned to not jump, to not bite, she learned to sit to stay and she's learned to walk and we've been able to do that in a couple of weeks. And it's been really great for our family. We've really enjoyed Jim and our kids have really enjoyed Kiwi. So thank you very much. You were great Jim more

Jim is a great asset to have on your side when raising a dog 7/14/2011

My story starts in November 2010 with the search for a dog. What type of dog and do we want a puppy or a rescue. We decided on a rescue Miniature Australian Shepherd. She was shy and barked for a long time and then she warmed up just a bit. The foster mom said she was not ready for adoption yet. To make a long story short, I just thought about her all the time and in April we saw her again and brought her home to Houston to see how she would fit into our lives. She is a sweetie and well mannered. She is a fun dog BUT, let another person come into the house and she get very uncomfortable and fearful. Walking is the same - she is fearful of strangers and especially other dogs. We had a high energy dog before - a Jack Russell Terrier and I thought for sure that we could handle her - wrong! In walked Jim Burwell into our lives. He helped me get on the right track with her training and was very supportive during the first month that we had Chelsea. It was like bringing a new baby home - NOW what do I do? He gave me the essentials to get her started on the right track to being a less fearful, aggressive dog. With his help we have made big steps in that direction. He is very kind, and knowledgeable about dog behavior. He is so tuned into dogs and can communicate in their language which most people think dogs understand English. Rescue or puppy he IS a great asset to have on your side when raising a dog. more

4th dog trained with Jim and only Jim 6/25/2011

My dog's name is Sophie. She's a 18 month old Catahoula rescue. We had her for a couple of week and I discovered that my sweet little girl is a sweet little wild child. We worked with Jim on 3 of our other dogs and he was my first call. He is actually why we still have Sophie. She would chase cars, she would counter surf, she went nuts with the vacuum cleaner and the food processor. So in working with Jim I can not vacuum my house, sweep the floor (she hated the broom), she will curb when we go on walks so no more car chasing. I tell her everyday that she gets to stay another day now that she behaves. Thank you Jim Burwell! more

My wife now likes our 3 month old puppy! 6/23/2011

Hi my name is Khoa . We have a 3 month old Husky named Sophie and the reason why we called Jim is : we were having a hard time having a 3 month old puppy in the house here. We were actually having some problems with her nibbling on people, potty training issues, peeing and pooping in the house, whatever she wanted to do, jumping on the house guests whenever they rang the door bell, she'd run up to the front door jumping on them and nipping them at the same time. At the same time we tried to set up a temporary gate, and she still jumped over the gate, a 6 foot table but that didn't really work but we wanted to restrict where she went in the house We don't want her in the bedroom but nonetheless if we're not watching her she gets on the bed and into the laundry and we didn't like that either We called Jim to help us solve some of these issues but ever since then over the last 3 weeks she's: laying down, she listens to our commands, we're still working on recall we've learned to set temporary and permanent boundaries so she doesn't go jump on guests and we set up a temporary boundary at the bedroom and she doesn't cross it.It's a lot of work but she is way more better behaved than when we got her. My wife can stand her more now :-) She's learning. We definitely have the tools now to work with our pup. more

This was a great experience and fixed my dog gast 6/13/2011

Jim helped me with Winston, my 13 month old lab with sleeping through the night out of his kennel. Winston would wake up every night around 2:00 AM. All it took was Jim telling me to ignore Winston giving the order to wake up. Now we both sleep happily through the night! Winston also tried to go up and down the stairs with you. He now knows to wait for me to call him and this makes the stairs a lot safer. Jim also helped us be able to walk through the neighborhood and Winston will watch what I want him to do. This was such a great experience! Brooke more

Fixed my problems fast 6/7/2011

I have a 4month old Labradoodle. We called Jim because Bella was having problems being housebroken and within the first week with working with Jim, Bella learned how to use the restroom outside very nicely. It was a relief to get that problem solved. And we also worked on having her eliminate the nipping and we've done a really good job with that with Jim's training. more

Terrific Training 4/22/2011

My name is Kristin and called Jim Burwell's Petiquette because I got an American Mastiff that was going to weigh much much more than me and we needed help with setting boundaries, not charging guests when they come in the front and generally being the best dog\r she can be.\r \r Me and my family were extremely happy with the training and are looking forward to having a great life with our dog. more

I have a great dog now! 3/19/2011

Dear Jim, Sam and I wanted to tell you how much we appreciated what you have done for us with our black Lab Hurley. We were desperate when we called and was not sure if we could make it until our first appointment with you. You taught us how to handle a very overly active Lab. One that was biting us when she wanted to play and how to correct that biting. We can walk her on a leash with us, not ahead of us! Hurley can now ""sit/stay/down"" and not get on the counter for food when we leave her sight. These are just a few of the techniques, along with your knowledge and training, that you shared with us and we put into good use. She is becoming a very pleasant Lab to be with and now with her knowing her pecking order we can all live together in a very pleasant household. We also want to compliment the way you handled our dog. Your ""hands on"" methods were very gentle and soft spoken and totally not abusive. You were very professional and came with a lot of tips to help us achieve our goals. You were not only so very patient with our Hurley but also with us. We also liked and understood the easy to read printout you gave us to practice between our meetings. It will be something that we can continue to refer back to to help reinforce our training. Jim, we would highly recommend you to anyone that needs help in training their pet. We look forward in continuing our lessons with you in an obedience class. Thank you so much helping us get our life back and enjoying our sweet new black Lab Hurley. You are the greatest! Very sincerely yours, Bitsy & Sam Searcy more

Jim is magical with dog 10/30/2010

Jim helped us work miracles twice with Lily, our Schnauzer mix. Lily came to us from a shelter – scared and malnourished. She blossomed in our home, but along with her increasing health and confidence came some episodes of food aggression toward our Cocker Spaniel, Maggie. We had no idea what to do, but we found Jim right before his famous “Dog Whisperer” article came out! One individual session with him and a follow-up group training helped us understand patterns of leadership and reward in ‘the pack,’ and we were able to turn things around very quickly. We all lived in peace for 7 years. It was a bit of a miracle! Over the next 7 years, however, we lightened up on leadership and failed to follow through with the socialization training that Jim had also recommended. We were satisfied with peace in our home, and we simply avoided other dogs and did all the wrong things during walks that actually increased Lily’s difficulties in getting along with other dogs. After we lost our dear Maggie in August, we wanted to add another dog to our home – but our first attempt to bring a dog home was a disaster, with all kinds of growling and snapping. We decided that we needed more work with Jim before we could try again. In 3 sessions, he again worked miracles. By the end of our first visit with Jim, Lily (who was always afraid of men) was sitting by him, wagging her tail, looking for more treats! We diligently did our ‘homework’, and during Jim’s second visit, we were able to bring in a sweet ‘visitor’ dog we were hoping to adopt from Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue. Jim worked miracles once more in helping Lily ‘meet’ Max in a controlled way that allowed her to be successful and get rewards. By our third training session, the 2 dogs were playing in the yard, off leash. Our whole family was amazed at the transformation, and I couldn’t stop smiling as I watched Lily and Max chase each other and play politely. There is still work to do, but I have the skills and confidence I need – and our family is now complete again, with Max as Lily’s new brother. Jim was fabulous throughout the process – always available for email Q&A and consistently encouraging and positive about what a good dog Lily really was. He was right – we just needed to learn how to encourage the right behaviors in a positive way. more

Amazing results with Jim Burwell 4/3/2010

I have heard about Jim Burwell for years and always knew that when I was able to get a dog that I would choose Jim Burwell for my dog training.\r I adopted a rescue dog, a lab husky mix, that did come with some baggage. Freddie had never had any training and was pretty rowdy in the house. He would steal food off the counter, hike his leg and pee everywhere. He was pretty pushy with me.\r I called Jim Burwell and during the course of the lessons I learned how critical structured exercise is for my dog. I also learned how to be a good dog parent to Freddie and help him understand how to live in my home properly.\r I can't say enough about the depth of knowledge Jim has and I am grateful that I had the best trainer in Houston help me and share over 25 years of dog training to help Freddie be a good dog and for me to be a good dog parent.\r Don't go anywhere else, Jim is the absoltue best! Pros: experience, knowledge, amazing results, fun more

Best Trainer in Houston 1/29/2010

My wife and I tend to rescue animals from the shelter and the last two were a handful. \r \r Jim was able to teach us how to lead by positive reinforcement and by showing us that our dogs really just want to please us. The main point he made was that most dogs misbehave as a result of the owners actions (it's not the dog - it's you). Once he taught us how dogs actually think and react to situations, it's was fairly easy to train them to achieve the results we wanted.\r \r He is very patient with his clients and will give you the tools to succeed. Don't expect him to come to your home, do a quick one hour fix and have the perfect dog. You will need to practice the methods on a regular basis to achieve success. Dogs learn by repetition and positive reinforcement.\r \r I highly recommend his service to anyone who needs help with a new pet. (or even an old stubborn one) Pros: Taught me how to be the ""lead dog"" in my home. Cons: Wish I knew about him sooner more

Dogs and Owners LOVE Jim! 1/27/2010

Jim uses positive reinforcement to train the dogs and they love it! We used him years ago and the dogs still know their commands and behave well. I highly recommend him if you are thinking of getting a dog or adding another dog to your house. He really understands and knows dog dynamics and can help resolve doggie politics, so everyone, including the dogs are happy and relaxed. The structure really helped us and the dogs. No more barking or growling or marking or jealously. AMAZING! Even the kids love to be a part of the training sessions and they know what is okay and not okay so they can have a loving relationship with the dogs. Walks and car rides are enjoyable now too! Pros: Best Trainer with Great Results Cons: You might get some excerise and like it! more
