The real deal. 10/24/2009

After living in Arizona 30 years this is one of the few restaurants we have found in the midwest to be comparable to what you can find in Arizona and New Mexico. The salsa didn't burn like it does at El Rey's supermarket restaurant, and I didn't see menudo on the menu; but this comes closer to the real deal than La Fuente. Great margaritas and horchata. They are also piping in pretty good background music, considering. The smoke free section was truly smoke free. Pros: great food, service, prices, atmosphere Cons: no mints by the door, salsa did not burn :) more

One of the City's Best 5/9/2008

If you consider yourself a person who loves Mexican food and frequents places La Perla, La Fuente & Botanas, do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant. It simply has the best food out of every single Mexican restaurant in the Milwaukee area. The menu consists of authentic regional Mexican dishes, but they also have a nice selection of Americanized dishes like tacos, enchiladas and burritos. The chips and salsa are fresh, the rice and beans served with most meals are great, and the Casa Margaritas are cheap, delicious and strong. Jalapeno Loco is often overlooked because of its location on the South Side; a fact that some people don't mind, because there are less hassles finding parking. Perhaps this review seems biased, but I myself did not appreciate Jalapeno Loco until I had visited most of the other Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee county. Couple this with the fact that it was one of the favorite Mexican restaurants of the late Dennis Getto and you know you have a winner. It is clearly a cut above the rest. Pros: Good traditional and regional dishes Cons: Sometimes a long wait on weekends more

My favorite restaurant. 11/12/2007

I agree with ""the restauranteur"" about the authenticity of the menu offerings. This restarant is easy for an out-of-towner like me to find, as it is located at an intersection with a traffic light. I have been there so many times in the past five years, I like so many of the dishes. Mole Rojo Oaxaqueno is a delight, especially as I'd never seen it before. All of their dishes are described so well on the menu that one does not feel intimidated. Pros: There is a well-ventilated smoking section in the bar. If I smell smoke, I recognize it as cooking smells. Cons: Well, for me the drawback is chosing from 7 menu pages AND specials! more

WOW! 3/27/2005

A fabulous little gem by the airport! Great food ranging from usual Mexican fare (huge fajitas, tacos, etc.) to incredible authentic regional cuisine (pecan soup, Chiles en Nogadas, moles, moles, moles!) This place always has a crowd, but it seems to be neighborhood and south siders. Bring friends and family - you will love it! Pros: Authentic regional fo, reasonably priced, quick service Cons: smoke from bar!, lively/noisy more
