Definitely going back with friends 9/28/2006

My husband and I went to Jade garden last night on the recommendation of a Chinese friend who eats there several times a week - we were flying blind, as she is a dim sum fan, but she had also spoken of their noodles. When we arrived, we were unsure they were open, as the restaurant was empty, but it was 9:30 on a Wednesday night, and they advertise being open until 2:30 am. The solo waiter eventually peeked out, then quickly made us comfortable, and brought us freshly brewed tea. We ordered the house special chow mein, but with chow fun noodles instead, and thinking that might not be enough, we also ordered salt and pepper squid. Boy, were we wrong! The noodles came out heaped in a pyrex pie dish, nearly overflowing with chicken, bbq pork, shrimp, squid, a few scallops and beautiful bok choy. The waiter had merely mentioned the bbq pork, chicken and 'seafood'. His understatement might have been due to uncertainty about the cooks whim, but we were delighted. Then arrived the salt and pepper squid: almost a tempura batter lightness, and it had been with salt, green onion, garlic and jalapeno peppers. Absolutely stunning flavor and texture. Very addictive to the tooth and tongue. And together the dishes were waaay to much for two people to eat, even though we were hungry. A few other tables arrived while we were there, filled with native Chinese speakers, who ordered Peking duck, and something that looked interestingly yummy, although we couldn't identify quite what it was. The leftovers were great this morning. And I will be calling my friend for more specific suggestions. I was very happy in my experience, and looking forward to returning. more

Average but Promising 3/26/2006

I am going to prefix by saying that I have not had decent Chinese in Seattle except for PF Changs, which really doesn't count since its yuppie chain Chinese. Regardless, dinner at Jade Garden was average, however I don't think we ordered the right dishes. I ordered cashew chicken, which had a little too much ginger since I generally don't enjoy huge chunks of ginger. My friend ordered Mongolian beef, which was much more flavorful. I wish that I knew what others around me were eating because they seemed to be enjoying a more eclectic variety of food. I always seem to find this though, you want to tap the Asians dining there and ask what they ordered. It sounds like Jade Garden's specialty is dim sum. I heart dim sum and cannot wait to try it on a Sunday morning. I'm still searching for good Chinese, but from what I've read so is everyone else in this city. more

Great Dim Sum...ok dinner! 9/26/2005

One of the best dim sum place in the Seattle area. The place is always busy after 11am in the weekend, so try to get there before that time to get a table. The dim sum is awesome, must have are: Steam BBQ buns and the green onion shrimp bun. Service is ok, just like any other asia restaurant. We have had dinner there a few times, but nothing exciting. more

I really enjoy coming here for Dim Sum. Their Dim Sum is always piping hot and fresh. The taste is always great. Their service is excellent and the tea has the best aromas than any other Chinese Dim Sum restaurants. I have also tried their dinner too but, their dinner is not as good as their Dim Sum though. Dinner I think is kind of over-priced and the size of the dish is too petite for it's price. Other than the food, the interior design of this restaurant is very nice, and seating is comfortable and clean. more

Mixed Reviews 8/18/2005

I have read some rave reviews about Jade Garden being the busiest restaurant in china town. So earlier this with a craving for Chinese I rounded up a small group of friends to try this place out. When I arrived there was a small birthday party going on and about 4-5 tables that were full. This was not the bustling restaurant I read about in reviews. I feel that is important to state that I arrived at Jade Garden around 8:30PM on a Wednesday night. We ordered a few dishes and I ordered the 8 treasure congee. The congee was very watery although it did have an acceptable amount of seafood and roast pork. The food in general is ok. I saw some promising dishes on other people's tables but what my friends ordered seems to lack any real flavor or pizazz. What really soured my dining experience was the fact that the waiter brought the wrong dish to my table 2 times. I think I will not be giving Jade Garden another try anytime soon. Please let me know of your experiences. Maybe it will change my mind. more
