Editorial review from Citysearch 8/12/2014

I'd heard all kind of stories about how using a dealership was a no-no. Like, ""They'll come up with all kind of stuff and you won't know if they're telling the truth but you have to trust them."" So, I was worried because no one else had fixed my engine light problem. I'd replaced the thermostat which 3 different mechanics (including a high-priced foreign car specialist) had said was the problem without even running a diagnostic. I changed the gas cap 3 times. The local mechanic suggested by my tire supplier looked at me with deer in the headlights eyes when it came back on again after every fix (including the new thermostat which he too said was the problem). This told me it was time I took it back to the dealership. I explained everything to Eddie at the service desk and he and his awesome mechanic found a broken fuel pump which was what was causing the engine light problem, plus a broken engine mount. The broken engine mount made sense because I'd had a rear-end collision and only the rear end was the focus of the body shop, not the engine. I also met a woman in the waiting area who told me that she brings her car in every 3000 miles with a coupon and it costs here so little it sounds like a bargain to me. Thanks guys, I'll be back more

We had a great experience at JE Mazda. While we were waiting for the sales person who worked with us the prio day ... we had 2 other sales people offer to help. Yes that is there job to sell but when we mentioned we were waiting for our ""guy"" they both offered to show cars, unlock cars in the showroom and even take my wife on the test drive until our sales person was done. Best Service Department Ever! 2/11/2012

I had a blown seal in the motor of my RX-8 which caused coolant to leak into the engine. The motor was still under warranty so I took the car to my local dealership. After getting the run-around, being forced to pay over $400 in ""diagnostics"", and seeing through their attempts to bully me into paying $4500 for unnecessary repairs before doing the warranty work I needed, I took my car to Jim Ellis Mazda in Marietta (about 1.5 hours from where I live). Everything from my initial phone call to the moment I drove my car off the lot was amazing. The staff was courteous and helpful, they gave me a loaner car without me even asking (I fully expected to pay for a rental which would have cost me over $300), and they told me point blank that they'd do everything they could to get me taken care of under warranty. There were no thinly veiled insinuations that I might have caused the problem somehow or crackpot theories about how my non-Mazda battery or spark plug wires could have caused the engine to blow like I had heard at numerous other dealerships in my lifetime. I now have a new motor in my car and it's running better than ever. To top it off, the whole thing only cost me $100 which was due to some aftermarket parts/wiring I had in the engine bay that they had to reconnect after the warranty work was done (which is very understandable). This is the first dealership I've ever found that sincerely has the customers best interest at heart and I couldn't be happier with the service at Jim Ellis. I will gladly make the 1.5 hour drive there again if I ever need service on my car and highly recommend anyone else do the same. more

Beware the ""No Service"" Department 11/7/2011

Be extremely cautious and question everything these guys do with your vehicle. I took mine in for a leak and $700+ later, I had to take it back because it still leaked. I was told ""we made a mistake"". There is no way that they properly inspected the vehicle after the repair or this stupid mistake would have been caught. They did spend some time inspecting so that they could try to add other repairs at insanely high prices. Pressure will be applied to sell you while your car is captive in the shop, so stop and think hard about shopping around. All in all, the techniques that Jim Ellis uses does not instill the trust that I need in a car mechanic. Good luck with them and BEWARE. more

great car buying experience 8/22/2011

Hilton Young made my car buying experience very comfortable. I never felt that I was being "sold" a car. This was the first car that I chose on my own and bought on my own. I was nervous going in thinking that I would get the hard sell or be taken advantage of. I never once felt pressured or that I was getting the hard sell (I walked out of another dealership because it seemed they were trying to force me into signing something before I even decided that I wanted that car.) Mr. Young answered all of my questions. I would recommend Jim Ellis and specifically Hilton Young to anyone looking to purchase a new car. I drove nothing but Honda Civics for 20 years and now I LOVE MY MAZADA3!!! more

Worst experience ever 5/6/2011

Please see this horrible customer service experience that I received at Jim Ellis Mazda of Atlanta. I made an appointment to bring in my Mazda 3 for service due to a power steering recall. They scheduled me for the repair and quoted a two hour wait time for the repair. Upon my arrival at 10:20am, the same employee re-confirmed the repair and quoted me a two and a half hour wait time. He said that the estimated time was a worst-case scenario and that the car might be ready sooner. Around 11:00am, he came over and talked me into getting new windshield wipers and air filters, with a free car wash. I agreed and continued to wait patiently until 12:15pm when this employee returned to say that my car was being washed and would be ready in 10 minutes. The problem was that my car was not ready in 10 minutes... I waited two more hours until nearly 2pm before the car was finished. No explanation. I am currently out of work and was registered to attend a career fair which I had to miss due to the long wait. I tried to find the employee or a manager but they were at lunch and no one could help me. If they would have told me that the repairs would take nearly four hours, I would have gladly scheduled for another day! I emailed my concerns to a manager & requested a partial refund and got a response a week later--they offered a credit on a future visit. Why would I return to a business that treated me rudely, did not fulfill their obligation, and refused to correct the situation? more

Wonderful Car Buying Experience 4/16/2011

"My experience was wonderful. Mr. Craig made me feel right at home and really took the time to talk about the vehicle. He also spoke directly to me as opposed to my husband which I really appreciated. I spent about a week analyzing and reviewing information Mr. Craig sent to me. I loved that we were able to complete most of the process via email and phone calls. I loved that I did not have to spend my entire day buying a car. Chris was also wonderful. He also answered my questions no matter how silly they may have sounded. He walked us through the paperwork and made us feel very comfortable with our purchase. I would highly recommend your dealership and Mr. Craig.--Melissa Whisler" more

Jim Ellis Mazda will rip you off!!!! 3/24/2011

I purchased a 2008 Mazda 6 three years ago from Jim Ellis Mazda. Now that I am considering buying a new car I decided to take my car to Carmax for an appraisal. When I got the appraisal I found out that my car had been involved in a rear end collision and the trunk had been rewelded together, also the trunk lid was not factory. The salesman at Jim Ellis Mazda failed to mention this to me. I would not have bought the car if I had known this information prior to now. This was not a used car when I purchased it. It was supposed to be a new car. I will never buy another car from Jim Ellis Mazda again. Now I wonder if this is the reason my transmission had to be replaced under warranty??? more

""Thanks for following up. The car is great… even my wife loves it. She joked about trading with her Mini! (I wish she’d have realized that before we paid $30k for that thing!). Only bad thing was that a freak hailstorm hit here on Friday and put some dents in my new car’s roof. Oh well… I should’ve left it in Atlanta after all! I was very happy with your professional service—you knew when to back off and when to engage, treating me like a fellow human being instead of just a prospect to close. I was really glad you didn’t say “what can I do to earn your business today”! If I ever learn of anybody in need of a Mazda, I will certainly send them your way.--Kurt Lammon"" Pros: Great service (and cars) Cons: It's not in Chattanooga more
