Sure, it's in a strip mall. But it's THE BEST! 4/3/2012

Hard to believe Seattle's best traditional sushi restaurant is in a strip mall in Totem Lake! But it's true! Izumi is a gem. Absolutely everything on the menu is prepared beautifully according to Japanese tradition. You won't find absurd rolls here, the American crap-on-top-of-a-fried-cali-roll nonsense that seems to be everywhere these days. Just beautiful cuts of sashimi, perfectly prepared cooked entrees, traditional noodle dishes. Oh my word, it's just so good! more

Good food but a little spendy 4/26/2010

We recently had dinner for the first time at Izumi. The food was good - very tasty and well prepared. The prices were a bit expensive ($11 for my meal of cold udon noodles, 2 tempura prawns, and 3 small tempura veggies and $1.50 for my side of miso; $19 for my husband's meal of assorted tempura + maybe 8-10 pieces of assorted nigiri sushi + rice, salad, miso soup). Pros: Good food, good service Cons: Pricey, in a strip mall more

Izumi --- Never again 3/25/2009

iIzumi - service is beyond POOR!!!! never again, to many other good sushi places to waste my money here!!!! FLO in Belleuve is the place to be- worth the drive!!!! Pros: nothing Cons: service was so un-friendly the food didnt matter more

Rude Service? Not at Izumi. NFW. 9/12/2008

I have been an Izumi customer for 15 years. I don't get out that way much anymore, but we made it out tonight. I read the reviews on this site before we left and I called the restaurant to see if the person on the other end was rude in any way. I was skeptical because in 15 years, I have never had anybody from Izumi be anything other than extremely polite. Tonight was no exception. We had to wait for a table, the food was a little slow in coming, and it was very good. It was worth 5 stars the last time I went there--maybe two years ago, but I felt perfectly fine with spending $20 per person. The food was good, the service was decent, and the people there are some of the nicest you could ever hope for. What these people exprienced when they walked up and the place was closing is classic Izumi. I've been frustrated with it before, because the place never seems to be open. The service can be slow, but anybody complaining of rude service at this restaurant should not be believed. more

BAD. BAD. BAD...........strip mall sushi is Washington should go bankrupt!!!!!!!! 9/2/2008

Made the trip from the University District to meet a business associate. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Very rude staff and extremely snobbing for a ""strip mall"" in Totem Lake. They flipped their OPEN sign to CLOSED as I walked towards the door 30 minutes before they close. The sushi was less than satisfactory, poor service, and the staff made me wonder why on Earth I drove 30 minutes for such a horrible experience. Lastly, I left an important folder with work notes behind. I called the next day to retrieve them. ""The owner told me I didn't eat there???"" He honestly laughed at me and hung up on me. Pros: They make a great california roll???? Cons: Extremely rude staff. Very expensive. Horrible service. more

Rude Staff 4/24/2008

Don't go unless you want to be insulted. There are alot of great sushi places on the Eastside, there's no need to put up with the rude owners and staff members for decent sushi. more

Terrible Service 4/24/2008

We waited over 40 minutes for our edamame to arrive and another 20 minutes for our sushi. Meanwhile two other tables, ordered, ate and left the restaurant. The waitress told us the delay was our fault since we arrived at the restaurant so close to closing time. We were there for lunch, we arrived at 12:55 and the restaurant closes at 1:30. The food is good the wait staff and management are down right rude. Pros: location, decent sushi Cons: terrible service, rude waitstaff more

Fabulous food and service 9/11/2007

I have been dining at Izumi's for at least 15 years and I get some of the best service and outstanding food anywhere. It is a little more spendy than some of the other Japanese restaurants but the food is consistently good. Shito Kamioka (Sushi Chef) makes some of the best and freshest sushi. They always know me and are super friendly. It is my favorite Japanese restaurant to visit. Pros: Sushi and Tempura Cons: no ambience more

Can't have it your way 8/30/2007

Done with the YUPPY sushi joints.. this place rules 7/10/2007

All I can say is either Izumi was having a bad night or the people writing the negative reviews don't know Japanese food. Izumi has been around for decades for a reason, they do Japanese food right. Nobody makes a Spider roll like they do and the seafood is a fresh as you can get it. They do get busy and I'd avoid the 6 - 7pm timeframe. Pros: Food/Staff Cons: busy at dinner time more

great sushi 7/8/2007

This is the best sushi on the Eastside. It is a little more expensive than some places but worth every penny. Pros: amazing food more

problems with food.. 1/4/2007

My girlfriend wanted to get some Japanese food for dinner a few days ago, so we went to Lzumi. Food was okay...but, it wasn't what I expected with the money I paid for.. However, yesterday, she and I went to Sushiya and it was very impressive. As soon as we walked into the place, people, who were working at the sushi bar, were greeting us. As far as food go, I was expecting a little less from them. However, it is one of the best Sushi I had for a long time. It is not too big, but not too small. It's a great place to go with family, freinds, and co-workers. Pros: Parking Cons: Food... more
