wonderful view! 2/7/2009

i loved the mac and cheese and creamed corn. the filet trio is a delight! im already a fan of ms scotts, so it would be hard for her to let me down at this point. Pros: great cocktail list. inventive, wholesome dishes Cons: the staff needs a lesson in etiquette and wine knowledge. more

Amazing filet mignon 11/23/2007

Thanksgiving lunch was truly amazing here, with the cruise ships gliding past and the impeccable service. Granted, we spent 500 bucks in fine wine, yet regardless, the steaks were like butter. My filet mignon was so pink and tender and the truffle inspired mashed potatoes were heavenly. My spouse loved the rac of lamb. Even the rolls were crisp and fresh. Decor is simple/minimal and classy. Bright window seats or back farther towards the main door. This place used to be reubens years ago. Overall I was impressed. Prices are a bit higher than most fine steak houses, yet similiar to Rainwaters. Enjoy! Pros: View, wine selection, service, timing Cons: Just a bit higher than hoped more

Great View, Great Deal 5/20/2007

C-Level has great food deals and happy hour. Enjoy the view through huge windows or from the lovely patio. The food is well priced for what you get, the salads and the lobster mac are great. They once served the best burger in San Diego. However, the last time I went they refused to cook it below medium well and it was terrible. I hope this was just a fluke, because otherwise I'm going to have to go on a serious search to find a new burger spot! Pros: View, Food, Value Cons: They may insist on overcooking your burger more

Horrible all around. Stay away. 4/13/2007

From start to finish this was one of the most horrible dining experiences we've ever had. From the clueless hostess, to the bartender who was ""cleaning"" the bar top with a foul smelling rag, to the server who didn't want any more customers in her section, to the manager, Tyler, who openened and decanted our wine but never provided any glasses, to the support staff that was rolling racks of glasses, silverware and bus-tubs right through the middle of the dining room, to the absolutely terrible & inedible food.......highly oversalted and overcooked fish dishes, steaks that were not cooked to the requested temperature and a server that offered to do nothing about it. I could go on and on and on!\r I've been to the other Cohn Group Restuarants. They are all equally bad. Why do San Diego restaurants' feel that if they offer a view, they don't have to do anything else? How does chef Debra Scott maintain her job? Here's a hint Ms. Scott. How about NOT using the Crostini as a garnish on every single plate? Next time do something creative. Switch it up!\r The Cohn Group of restaurants have done one thing right. They've hired a good PR firm! Here's a list of their restaurants to avoid. Kemosabe, Corvette Diner, Prado, Gaslamp Strip Club, Indigo Grille, Dakota Grille, MIster Tiki, Blue Pointe Coastal Cuisine.\r We been coming to San Diego since we are in the process of moving here. By now, we've tried every single one of the above mentioned restaurants. I would much rather take a trip to Tijuana and eat a street taco from a roadside vendor than patronize any of the Cohn Restaurants.\r Do yourself a favor. Stay away from these restaurant. \r \r Pros: Parking Cons: Imagine your worst dining experience. Now live it at Island Prime! more

Christmas Paradise Lost aka Have you seen my server? 12/28/2006

Christmas Night, 7:00 seating for 2, reservations made in advance. Arriving on time we were sat within 5 minutes, not bad on a bustling ? but nowhere near capacity night. Waiting 15 or so minutes we finally met our server, and had our drink order taken, and were informed that Prime Rib among other things had been taken off their limited holiday menu, since they had ran out. Since we had enough time to look over the menu, we went ahead and placed our order as well (Venison, and Mahi-Mahi). 15 minutes or so went by before we received our drinks brought by another server. 25 minutes went by and we received our salads. We asked about bread for the table, and we were told that they had run out. 10-15 minutes later they brought out crisp pieces of toast for us to have instead of the bread everyone else was sharing at their tables. We found another server at this point so we could order another 2 drinks. 40 minutes between drinks, and no one was checking up on us. Half an hour later dinner comes to the table. Mahi-Mahi was rubber ? seriously you could not cut it with a fork. The Venison was so burnt it was blackened as a whole. The Mahi-Mahi was sent back, along with the Venison. The server came back to tell us the manager was taking care of everything. The server then came out 10 or so minutes later and told us that they had run out of Venison. We were offered a substitution off the regular menu, which we had been told that it would not be served - only holiday selections. But at this point (almost 2 hours into our dinner of salad and toast) we said enough. Conveyed to our server that we would not take a replacement meal and were not satisfied with the evening. She came back and told us once again that the manager would cover the bill, and apologized. We never saw the manager, for that matter we only saw our server about 3 times in 4 hours. I understand that the holidays can be busy, especially if you take last minute walk-ins and don't stock enough food Pros: Great view and ambience Cons: Barely saw our server, ruined food, food selections taken off menu due to shortages, items were plated with non listed garnishes, toppings and gravies more
