If you care about your camera...PLEASE...don't take it here.\r \r I am a professional photographer and I took my camera in to have the shutter replaced. I received my camera back in 1 day and was charged the hefty (and expected) amount you would pay to have a shutter replaced in a pro body camera. \r \r That weekend I was shooting a wedding with my ""new shutter"" and guess what?!!! The shutter went out after about 50 actuations. If I wouldn't have had a back up camera, I would have been in real trouble. The camera was giving me the ERR 99 message which all Canon dread...shutter malfunction.\r \r I take my camera back into International Camera the next week and tell him about the error message and the shutter failure. The owner tells me that he is not sure what happened and he will replace the shutter this time instead of trying to fix it??? HOLD ON!!! Wasn't I just charged for a shutter replacement the last time I came in?...but instead you simply ""fixed it""? At this point, I am very upset but I need my camera in proper working order, so I let them work on it again.\r \r A week later, I get my camera back and the shutter is working like a dream. However, after I complete a photo shoot, I notice that the camera is consistently back focusing. i had to refund the money I charged to the client because none of the images were usable. \r \r I take my camera back in and the owner tells me that the auto focus is ""acceptable"" and that there is nothing that he can do. After about 20 minutes of frustration one of the techs from the back comes up and tests my camera. Sure enough, he says that the camera is back focusing and needs to be fixed. I leave my camera there for another week. When I come back to pick it up, the owner tells me that it has been fixed. Upon getting home a testing it...it still is back focusing!!! At this point, I am tired of dealing with this guy's nonsense and arrogance. I am a professional photographer and he was trying to talk to me as if I bought my camera yesterday.\r \r So at this point I have paid $500 to get my shutter fixed, and all I have is a pro body camera that back focuses and a heap of frustration. However, the cherry on top is that I ran a shutter count on my camera and it is around the same number it was when I dropped it off the first time. THEY NEVER REPLACED THE SHUTTER!!! A new shutter would have reset the count to 0...BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!!!!\r \r I am currently reviewing my legal options. My bit of advice is that if you ever have something that goes wrong with your camera, save yourself some headache and send it back to the manufacturer to fix it. The additional cost will definitely be worth the peace of mind! more

I went in for a Nikon D1X problem. Brought the camera because I wasnt getting the same shots as I use too. They charge me $400.00 for a problem that wasnt fix. I questioned the charge and they said the problem was ""Side plate not allowing the aperture to stop down"" and we fixed it. Well, it wasnt fixed. Took camera to a Canon Repair by Oakton and Lehigh. They looked at it and said, Buy new batteries and they didnt charge me a thing. more

Not what they used to be... 10/25/2010

Many years ago, International Camera in Chicago was one of the best repair facilities in the country. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. I had heard that they went down hill from customers and also from ex-technicians that worked for them but I didn't take that seriously. However, I learned the hard way that what I was told was true. \r \r I am a semi-professional photographer who still shoots film primarily because I am a large format photographer who rarely shoots in small formats. But I took my Canon F1 New in to get a problem fixed and also to have its hi-powered NiCd pack batteries replaced. I suggested what the first problem might be and the technician laughed and treated me with a patronizing and condescending manner as if I had no idea what I was talking about. Before I was an engineer, I was a service technician on literally hundreds of types of commercial equipment and I have worked on virtually every type of system imaginable and I do know what I am talking about. I wish he had listened to me because, when I picked up the camera, the problem hadn't been fixed. But the battery pack was another problem. He obviously installed the wrong batteries (probably the ones for the lower-powered battery pack FN) because it never powered the camera properly and the charger never shut off when charging. So, not only did the technician NOT fix either problem, but he treated me with arrogance and rudeness. Needless to say, I will not be going back to International Camera in the future. more
