Sushi was average. Management and service were laughable. This was my first and will be my last experience at Ichiban. It was a friends birthday and were looking forward to a grea...

Empty stomach empty wallet 4/10/2011

The prices were not good at all. I know sushi is supposed to be on the pricier side so you expect to pay more than you would at a burger joint, however, you are still supposed to pay for quality. The quality was very poor. Nothing special, many of the flavors were imbalanced or under seasoned. The service was fine, the actual venue was nice, but the food was really not worth $55 for 3 rolls, each the shape and size of one of those long tootsie rolls, cut in half. It was a wonder how they got them so small. The rice was dry and our vegas roll even fell apart, and it was held together with tempura, really? Explain that to me. In summation, we left early because it wasn't worth our money to continue spending money in order to fill ourselves with poor sushi. more

pretty good price and pretty good sushi 4/5/2011

i've gotta say i'm a bit of sushi snob so i have a pretty high stnadard. Itchiban was pretty good. i luv the interior of the restaurant, very cute. overall pretty good and fair priced. more

The Best By For 2/15/2010

The Appetizers are SO goood. The Tuna Briand is to Die for. If you have a date that is a little shy toward the ""rawer fish"" type tasting sushi, have her try the Smoked Squid Salad. The Squid is sweet, kinda looks and taste like slices of mango. Very highly recommended, (from me) ;) The mussel shooters and baked mussels are very yummy too. The Chocolate Sushi (only made sometimes), Blissful. Pros: Best place in town more

We Love Ichiban! 10/21/2009

The kobe beef appetizer was fantastic! We like to sit at the sushi bar and let the chefs create rolls for us. There are also plenty of really good dishes for non sushi people. I suggest you go early on Monday and Tuesday because they fill up fast. Pros: Cool Space, Great Food& Service more

Best Sushi In Town! 10/21/2009

Me and my friends ate at Ichiban last night. OH MY GOD! It was such a great experience. The vegan curry croquette was do die for, the sushi was the freshest we have had in a long time, and the home-made apple dessert we had was something I will talk about for a while. The service was very friendly and helped my friend navigate the sake list. We had a great time, and cant wait to go back! Pros: Fresh sushi, great atmosphere, awesome sake list Cons: can be very busy, so get there early more

Yuk! Sushi was dry and skimpy! 10/18/2009

We used to come here years ago and it was nice atmosphere and we probably didn't know sushi very well. We went back there last night and the sushi was laughable. It was dry, tasteless and very little. The Jazz roll, which was $13, probably had about $2 worth of fish on it. Really disappointing. My husband ordered the Salmon Sashimi 5 piece, which was $15. We just couldn't help but laugh when it came. It was rolled up like a flower, but it was a tiny flower that a honey bee might land on! He at it in 2 bites. I bet the fish cost less than a few dollars. Pros: ambience, good poor of wine Cons: sushi, food more

Good Sushi 9/21/2009

We went to Ichiban to try our the half off rolls on Monday and Tuesday nights. The rolls were tasty, but the service was so slow. The place wasnt even that busy when we showed up at 6PM. We had a party of 8 and we didnt have a reservation because we planned to get together so late. They refused to give us a bigger table for a bigger party that wasnt coming until 8PM. We squeezed into a smaller table, but now I know why they couldnt give us the other table... BECAUSE THEYRE SERVICE IS SOOOO SLOW. Our waitress was nice, but it just took forever for our food to come out. Pros: Cheap Rolls Cons: Slow Service more

Where's my tip? 9/10/2009

So the waiter was good UNTIL we were about to leave and we see our waiter running after our car so we stopped, thinking we forgot something. The waiter looked furious and said,""Where's my tip?"" My husband said, ""it's on the table you should have looked before running after us."" And feeling stupid he just turned back and ran inside. I bet he ran to get his tip. I know tips are a big part of a waiter's salary but c'mon now running after us before checking to see if we tipped him or not! Pros: cool atmosphere Cons: waiter was shameless more

bland and gross! terrible service 8/16/2009

Don't be lure in by half price rolls on Monday and Tuesday! They're not worth it. If you look at the other reviews, that's why people like place. My wife and I have had sushi all over Salt Lake City and this was by far the most disappointing. After waiting for over an hour to get our sushi, it was not tasty and very boring. So we decided to try their signature roll which was the most expensive roll on the menu. We were trying to give them the benefit of the doubt by hoping we had just ordered some of their less impressive rolls. We were wrong! Gross! Don't go here. The only reason I think this place does decent business is because the location is very hip and cool. It looks like a converted old southern style church-house. Very cool. But if you have any ability to recognize good vs. bad sushi, you will hate this place Pros: cool building and location Cons: bad sushi, really bad service, overpriced more

Absolute worst sushi in Utah 7/29/2009

For being in a really cool location it is the worst sushi restaurant in the entire valley. Yes, that includes grocery store sushi and all-you-can-eat joints. The fish is so far from fresh, it's a wonder people haven't gotten sick. Or perhaps they have but are too sick to write a review? Pros: Leaving and keeping it down? Cons: old fish, expensive prices and rude service more

Yum! 6/30/2009

Patio was very relaxing and provided a nice ambiance. You have to ask about the off the menu specials, like the hamachi comma (sp?) we had which was SO tasty. Two thumbs up. more

Awesome! 2/20/2009

My friends and I had the best sushi we have ever had at Ichiban on monday night. They have a half off menu on mondays and tuesdays, it rocks!!! Pros: old church is cool more

Don't Eat Here!! 2/18/2009

Sushi was average. Management and service were laughable. This was my first and will be my last experience at Ichiban. It was a friends birthday and were looking forward to a great experience, what we did get is a very long wait for food and as soon as we did get our sushi she asked if we wanted desserts because the kitchen is closing. We love sushi and have tried many places in Salt Lake. So many restaurants get it right here in SLC, Ichiban is not one of them! more

Best sushi place in Utah! 10/28/2008

The best sushi I have ever had!! Philly Roll and Vegas roll are AMAZING! This place is top quality and very delicious! Pros: Amazing sushi, and other food for people who don't eat sushi Cons: no cons, I love it all more

Ichiban - just ok 8/12/2008

My experience at Ichiban was mediocre at best. The menu had a lot of speciality rolls. I ordered the Jazz roll - which was pretty good. I also ordered a Salmon roll - which I don't think had much salmon at all. It was almost all rice. I also ordered a rainbow roll that has crab inside - it was rather dry. Pros: Ambience Cons: Sushi was just ok more

Great specials 6/8/2008

The outdoor dining is great and the specials on mon-tues are definitely a bonus Pros: nice group seating upstairs, nice outdoor area for seating, specials make it worth while Cons: parking can be a pain - but short walk to alternative parking more

NO THANKS 4/26/2008

Umm Ichiban is not as good as it used to be. They still have excellent service in a beautiful environment but the sushi is mediocre at best. We even had to send back a roll because it tasted fishy - I mean it tasted off. Eww. We should have gone to Takashi which has crappy service but incredible sushi... Pros: Great Service, Beautiful Building Cons: Bad Sushi more

FISHY 2/20/2008

I know I am going to eat sushi, but i have always know that fish is bad when it taste like you are eatting fish. every thrid bite taste like fish which means the fish was old. If you are willing to take a chance go ahead but I have had better sushi in Salt Lake. Pros: Great location Cons: old fish more
