There was a spider in the light above my table so I didn't actually eat anything. I was grossed out. I will not be back. Cons: Not very clean.

The only one 9/20/2009

As a Japanese, I think this restaurant serves almost real Japanese food. I feel like I'm back in Japan when I eat there. If you want to try the authentic Japanese food, this is the place to go. more

THE sushi no-brainer in Nashville 3/9/2009

Ichiban offers an array of fresh sushi with plent of sake to go aound. Most couples can split a combination dinner, which halves the ticket, and still eat plenty of food. I enjoy the soup, the wife enjoys the salad. We then share the bento box with two different entrees. The tempura is spectactular by the way. And of course we split the order of crunchy shrimp and combination nigiri. What value! Aside from the food, expect to walk since the restaurant is downtown. I also suggest asking to sit upstairs for better ambience, but I have noticed the quality of service deteriorates with this move. Bottom line: no sushi fan should miss this place if in Nashville. Pros: delicious Cons: parking, upstairs dining service more

critter in my soup 2/6/2009

I work downtown and have eaten Itchiban a fair amount. Today there was a critter in my soup. I don't like my sushi with critters. Call me high maintenance...\r (apparently some words are banned from this website, hence use of ""critter"") Pros: close to my office Cons: critters in food more

My second sushi restaurant 1/17/2009

Okay so on my first week of exploring the city of Nashville, I stumbled upon Ichiban. Figured place with \r half of a beers name can't be bad in Nashville. For the first time in my sushi experience, corn was served in my ginger salad. It was shockingly a nice contribution. My sushi came withen a short period of time, which was nice to see considering it was lunch time. My order was a spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail. The rolls are small which is how I prefer, too much rice is a no no. For those of you who like spicy rolls, this place just squirts the sauce on top. The spicy tuna was good as for the yellow tail. I've had better. \r Price: Could be lowered\r Quality: Average\r Service: The girls are great\r Location: Perfect for foot traffic, your own your on if driving.\r Enviorment: They have private rooms. Low seats\r Over All: I think Ichiban is a nice casual place for ppl who are still new to sushi. Pros: Soup and Salad come with meal Cons: Sushi is a lil expensive for the value more

Best Sushi in town. 10/2/2008

I have lived all over the country and my boyfriend has lived in Japan and this is hands down the freshest sushi in Nashville. We have tried various other places including Virago and P.M. and while the other 2 offer more innovative rolls, it is more about the fluff and less about the fish. Ichiban also has an authentic Japanese cuisine and the waitstaff are very nice and helpful. Pros: QUALITY, service Cons: parking downtown more

Freshest Sashimi in Town 9/2/2007

The fish is always fresh; never cold or still frozen. Fish comes in every Thursday. The sushi chefs are friendly and always make good recommendations. The wait staff are also friendly. I love sashimi, and I always get the sashimi deluxe and a large hot sake. I haven't had the toro, because it is difficult to get good toro. Get the amaebi (sweet shrimp); it is the only place I know of that also serves deep fried shrimp heads; delicious!! \r It is a good place to relax and hang out with friends. I heard about the multi-course dinners from friends, but never had the chance to order it; it's a lot of food, but very homemade japanese food. I will try that next! Pros: fresh fish more

Great Japanese dishes other than sushi 8/24/2007

This place had been around for years and years, with good reason. The sushi is good, but the real reason to go is the menu has loads of other entrees and appetizers that you usually don't find in many Japanese restaurants, like interesting appetizers and chazuke. Love this place! more

Best Sushi in Nashville! 4/19/2007

I absolutely love this place and try to go there every chance I get! Great Japanese food, great people, and a great atmosphere! My husband and I actually had our first day here. I highly recommend. Pros: Great Food at a great price Cons: Can be busy on weekend nights. more

Something is Wrong with the Ratings 2/28/2007

I enjoy the pleasure and the opportunity to afford to eat at a restaurant almost every night of the week. Reason being I hate the routine of not doing so. With that said, I tried Ichiban after reading the reviews here. I will put it this way. The Service is the first thing you notice, or not notice. In Ichiban's case, it wasn't good or bad. Then comes the food. Again, it was not good, or bad. Then came the price. I could probably say it was bad, because it is the same as everyone else, good places and bad places. Believe me, I know good sushi, and I know this one wasn't bad. But Definatelly not the best in Nashville. If you like the more traditional Sushi, and the same type of setting as Ichiban, then you should Try Goten, or Tenno. If you are ever around Murfreesboro, try Sushin. Those are recommended. Ichiban is just Average. more

Great Sushi 8/15/2006

We went for dinner while on a vacation in Nashville. Food was great and inexpensive. There's a combo dinner that is enough food to split with 2 people for $21. We had tempura, teriyaki chicken, and two different kind of sushi rolls. It also included soup, salad, and some sides. Great deal and every thing tasted great! Location is nice too because it's right down town near Broadway. For fun afterwards we took a horse drawn carriage around the area, the ride is a little pricey ($30) but fun if you want to splurge. more

Best Sushi in Nashville 2/9/2006

I visit Nashville about twice a month and this has been the only place where I've consistently had good Japanese food. That's saying quite a bit since I've tried about every place I've ever come across in the greater Nashville area. I've always found their fish to be fresh. They also have one of the largest selection of cooked Japanese dishes I've found anywhere. Pros: Quality Sushi, Good variety Cons: Smoky Downstairs, No Parking, Slow service at times more

Looking for Japanese food that's not sushi? 2/7/2006

My fiance (who's from Japan) and I went to Ichiban for her birthday and we both really enjoyed it. I've been to a lot of different Japanese restaurants in Nashville and none of them have as wide a selection of non-sushi dishes as Ichiban. They also have an impressive selection of alcohol and (of course) sushi. Another plus that both my fiance I noted is that the ambience is as close to an actual Japanese restaurant as we've seen in Nashville. The staff was also very polite and prompt. The only problem is parking, but if you go there Sun - Wed, it shouldn't be a problem. Pros: Variety of dishes, Ambience, Variety of alcohol Cons: Parking more

User review by nicolebcbc 11/12/2005

We read all the reviews before choosing to go to Ichiban. We were visiting Nashville and my husband wanted sushi. We liked the window display of food and the taste of the food was wonderful. I don't care for sushi and so I went for the teriaki chicken. I received a large portion and it was delicious. My husband was able to try some sushi of different varieties and his food was good also. I am so glad we decided to dismiss the negative reviews! more

The BEST Sushi I have had or will ever have.... 3/8/2005

- and that's out of many cities, many restaurants, I have had Sushi in. more

Fantastic!! 6/23/2004

Don't believe those other reviews bashing this place. This is HANDS DOWN the best sushi in Nashville. The food is simply, top notch. The restaurant is slightly cramped downstairs -- ask for upstairs or even better the traditional seating! Someone complained that the bar was 'not attended' Well shoot, its an eating establishment not BARNashville. Ask your waitress for a drink, and she brings it. Who cares if the bar is attended or not? Really folks, use some common sense. Does the service suck on occasion? Well DUH, it is a restaurant. If you go Friday night at 8PM of course its going to be slammed. So is every other place in town! Overall, the service is usually better than most places. I've eaten here probably two-three times a month for the last three years. Don't listen to someone who's only been once or twice. The food is consistently great!! Pros: Excellent Food, Best Sushi in Town Cons: , Poor Parking more

Best Yet! 2/26/2003

Everything was perfect. The food, staff, price, and atmosphere - everything. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Staff more

Best sushi in Nashville 1/6/2003

Best sushi I have eaten in Nashville and many other cities where I always make it a point to try out at least one sushi restaurant while I'm there. I don't know when the previous reviewer was there but there's never been a time when I've eaten there that my water or tea glass has gotten to barely even half empty before one of the wait staff filled it. The wait staff is always friendly and willing to help explain the menu and make suggestions. I've taken several first time sushi eaters there and now they are hooked. Try the Nashville roll, it's big but yummy. more

Hands down best and biggest! 10/18/2002

This is the freshest sushi in town with the biggest pieces of nigiri. Amazing! Cons: downtown parking more

Ah So Very Good 8/21/2002

We arrived after the dinner rush. I enjoyed the delicious sushi and the unusual sushi pizza. However I was very dissapointed in our service. We waited an hour before we got served. It seems they forgot about us. The waitress was apologetic, but that didn't stop our stomachs from growling in hunger. Pros: Fresh Sushi, Friendly Service Cons: Waited an hour more
