Total Classic Neighborhood Bar 7/4/2009

This is one of those Hollywood and neighborhood classics. Anytime is a great time to go, but Thursday's and Weds are some of my favorite days when crowds aren't overwhelming. Wonderful decor, tons of fun, good bartenders and fair prices. more

Go Elsewhere, Anywhere! 11/13/2008

1. The WORST drinks I've had since I moved to Los Angeles(7 years ago). $8 and watered down to the point that even the bouncer said the drinks were bad. 2. If you like women, go elsewhere, the crowd while nice was less than desirable. 3. No hat policy? What is this Massachusetts? Well if it was MA they'd allow Gay marriage so somewhere this whole state and within this state this bar has gone HORRIBLY wrong. Do not go here. Cons: dress code, drinks, crowd more

best moody dive bar 6/3/2008

i have re-visited this bar for the past 10 years, it is one of the best little bars i have been to. my husband and i had our first kiss here and many drunken nights. this is a great date night dive - plus a fun social place to gather with your trendy friends (but get there early for a good seat). the drinks are great, the bar gets busy so i suggest you order 2 drinks at a time. Pros: great date scene Cons: parking more

you can't have a bad time here 5/23/2008

Alright, so this is a really great bar. I've been here a handful of times... and I've recommended it to quite a few friends. The jukebox is good, (not f*cking incredible) the drinks are good, and the bartenders are slightly slow, but I think they always are at bars that get so crowded. (And it does get really crowded). However on a week night, it's ultra mellow for a more relaxed time... so your experience can be totally different. Only, the last time I went there the bartender charged me twice for my tab... but I took care of it and just think it was an honest mistake. Definitely worth checking out. more

Please pass this place up...it is scary 6/11/2007

This is a perfect bar if you like drunk clueless girls & belligerent bartenders who yell racial slurs at people!! Don't get me wrong, the decor is cute, decent music & they have a kitschy drink menu. but let me tell you, EVERY TIME i have been in there i have encountered the drunkest & most belligerent people ever. this last time was even worse, because not only did a random girl come up to me & start calling me names and yelling racial epithets at me (i am hispanic) but the bartender went crazy on me as well! he went over to "talk" to the girl (because instead of engaging her we tried to get help) and when she denied saying anything he came over and told me and my friend that we were aggressive and gh*tto. he then proceeded to call us beaners and said he would "sl*p the gh*tto right out of us." he LITERALLY said exactly that. have you heard someone called a beaner in like 15 YEARS?! i had been there 5 minutes and wasnt even a quarter of the way into my beer. they then posted a guy right behind us to guard the populous of this bar against our potentially crazy, 5 minutes in a bar with no alcohol behavior while leaving the girls who were so drunk they were practically falling down to their business. as he stood behind me, the girl and her friend continued to call us names and actually physically try and jump at us (their guy friends were holding them back) and the bouncer and the bartender did nothing. when i asked him if he could hear the insults the girl was yelling at us he said he "wasn't listening." how convenient. and scary. i would definitely say watch your back if you are sane, professional, educated and of any ethnic culture. otherwise you may get the gh*tto sl*pped out of you by the ever diligent peace keeping forces manning the joint. honestly, i HATE to say it, but it seems to be the case. go up the street to tangier or to AKBAR or someplace divey-er but safer like coach and horses on sunset. this place ain't safe for normal people. Pros: Great decor and drinks Cons: the craziest staff and patrons I have ever encountered more

Nice atmosphere, lots of seating, facemelting drinks 2/19/2007

Love the decor. It's laquer everything, and tiny plastic dragons in your drinks. Refreshingly chill but not dead on a saturday night., and we were able to get a booth at 11 o'clock. I'm not normally one for fruity drinks, but I just told the bartender to give me his specialty, which happened to be the eponymous Good Luck, as in, "Good Luck remembering the rest of the night, you freaking idiot." i sure didn't. more

Great place to drink 12/14/2006

The whole asian feel is there, the setup is nice.....away from the Hollywood traffic. Drinks are average, so are the prices. The have their own signature drinks. Good place to start the night. Pros: Scene, crowd, location Cons: nothing major....... more

Great Fun 11/19/2006

All of the customers and bartenders are in a good mood at this bar. And who wouldn't be - with the gaudy decor and fun drinks, everyone has a good time without taking themselves too seriously. more

One of my favorites 10/24/2006

I really like this bar. The dark, asian inspired atmosphere is nice and welcoming. The people who go here are normal, and the drinks, especially off the special menu, are delicious. I've gone early and gotten a seat, which to me is the best way to do it, because otherwise it gets crowded. The only problem I have with it is there is only one stall in the women's bathroom, and there's always a line. more

Am I in China? 9/8/2006

Dark Room filled with red lanterns, oriental ceilings, comfy low leather seats and chinese quilted pillows, this place is worth a visit. From the outside it looks like nothing special, but once through the mysterious door, you enter into a world of pure imagination. Thumbs up to this place's interior decorator. The ultra-white bartenders and youthful crowd do give a gentle reminder that you are in Hollywood not oldtime Shanghai. Order "a Double" from their Chinese inspired fancy drinks menu, it comes in a bigger glass with more liquor for about $10. Hollywood prices, but no pressure, no silly "are you on the list" nonsense. Better Cleaner atmosphere than Formosa Cafe. Pros: Atmosphere, People watching Cons: Prices, Location more

so cool 8/30/2006

Good Luck bar is one of the coolest bars in town! Beautiful decor, great drinks, music and service. More than anything this place is just so cool - great vibe and excellent crowd! more

not sure it it's worth the wait 7/23/2006

I waited patiently near 3 bartenders on a Friday night. 20 minutes after walking in and not being served or even glanced at, I walked out. Cute interior though. more

best jukebox in america 6/28/2006

i used to love good luck bar, despite the sometimes irritating parking situation, because of the amazing jukebox (al green, rolling stones, jackson 5), friendly bartenders, rad decor and eclectic crowd.. then the creepy bouncer made a pass at me and i'm scared to go back.. but i will, because i secretly love this bar. its close to everything.. there are always cute boys.. i feel like im in some kung fu movie from the 50's.. super fun. more

better than a rabbit's foot. 4/14/2006

there's something intimate and friendly about this usually packed place. not your typical [boring] hipster crowd, it attracts a diverse crowd and loud conversations with friends and strangers alike. i never leave here sober or lonely. sit at the bar if you're one, two or three, in the den if you're with a group. and the doorman is so handsome! Pros: hot vibe, strong drinks, cool, friendly people more

Great ambience, horrible service 6/11/2005

The Good Luck Bar is one of my new favorite bars. The atmosphere is great and the fun drink menu sets it apart. Went here last night and it started out perfectly because my group got there early and secured an area in the loungey part of the bar. The service wasn't that great from the get go but as the hours ticked by and the place went from a little crowded to packed, it was impossible to get a drink. They were extremely understaffed (ridiculous to have two bartenders for the whole bar) and the staff that they had were slow and inefficient, too busy socializing with each other than tending to their customers. The atmosphere of the place made up for the poor service. Next time I go, I will make it a point to go early and move on before it gets packed. Pros: atmosphere, good mix of people, drinks Cons: service more

Relaxing, unpretentious 6/18/2003

I love this bar! I'm married and hate going to bars where the singles are all out and on display creating that uncomfortable pretentious vibe. This place is so kick-back and relaxed. It's a great hang out where you can listen to great music, have an intimate conversation with the one you love or just chill with a bunch of friends. The decor is Chinese and there's something calming about the place. We usually go see a movie at the Vista Theatre down the block. It's a great date place! Pros: intimate, laid-back, funky & relaxed Cons: parking, it does get packed, opens up late more

Fist of Fury 5/10/2003

Opt for a house specialty called "Fist of Fury". Instead of buying small size, get a large; its more expensive but is more economical than is buying two regular size drinks. Also arrive before 10PM to avoid a long wait to get in. more

Orient Express 2/26/2003

You walk through the door and you feel like you have been transported to somewhere... Reminds me of Chinese restaurants growing up (all had the word "golden" or "dragon" somewhere in the name). A great trip, nonetheless! more

Welcome to Ambiance 2/5/2003

Love the tiny lamps on the tables; love the red Chinese deco everywhere. This place has character! OH! And, the drinks are pretty good too! more

Orient Express 1/16/2003

Along with a great mix of music ranging from David Bowie to X, good luck's asian motif is done up to the "T" from the dragon stirers to the lights on the wall, but with all the good luck in the air it doesnt take a fortune to get a great drink, try the mai-tais! Pros: dim lighting, great music, motif to the "T" more

  • This convincing old-time Chinese dive keeps the musty mystique going with hanging paper lanterns, carved-dragon ceiling panels and big mirrors. A beautiful, keyhole-shaped doorway leads from the main bar to the back room, where would-be opium smokers lounge on low, comfy chairs and couches. Loud, romantic music ranges from Frank Sinatra to Al Green, perfect for imbibers on the prowl. The full-color folding matchbooks are among the best in town.
