A horrible experience at the Goergetown Inn 3/29/2009

My fiance and I went to the Gerogetown Inn for her birthday. When we arrive we were told to go up the stairs and we would be seated. So after squeezing through the bar we made are way up the stairs we were seated at the corner window seat. It felt like we were sitting at the same table as the people next to us. Are table was so wobbly that everytime we cut are salad or moved are drinks would spill how embarrising. Half way through my salad i noticed a piece of plastic in it . I told the waitress and she said "" It happens all the time "" So she offered us a free drink probably after noticing are drinks were spilled on the wobbly table. I ordered the fishermans plater it was horrible the best thing about the meal was the baked potato. I would not recommend this place to anyone.... Nice view, Bad food Bad service, Small portions Over priced... Pros: The view Cons: Everything else more

Not Worth The Wait 2/15/2009

Whoever used the term prompt seating must have been to the Georgetown Inn during a down time of the day. We made reservations for 8 pm the night before Valentines Day. We did not get seated unitl 9:05 pm. Understandibly there was a bit of a wait (even though you make reservations) but when I went up to check if my name was actually still on the list, it was circled with 6 names below me all crossed off. There were no apologies or compensation for the ridiculous wait. When we were seated and ordered our food, I got the French Onion Soup that was barely warm. The bowl was hotter than the soup. Very small portions. I was able to eat bread, cheese, salad, soup and still finish my meal. The service was great. When were were leaving the maitre d and hostess were practically making out at the coat check not paying any attention to the customers leaving the restaurant and thanking them for their business. I will never go back there even if I got a gift certificate. Pros: Take Reservations Cons: Don't Honor Reservations more

Solid establishment, but worn 2/9/2009

For a restaurant on Mt. Washington, the Georgetowne Inn leaves much to be desired. The view is certainly outstanding, and the service very good, however, the restaurant is badly in need of updated decor. Other reviewers have said that it looks like you walked into 1960... this is true, but it is not even an upscale or ""retro"" look, moreso just worn and dated. The stucco on the walls is chipped and worn, and has the look of stagtites more than stucco; the chairs are comfortable, but belong in a country kitchen, not a ""fine dining"" establishment. \r \r I give the Georgetowne 3 stars for the good service, large portions, good food, and very reasonable pricing, however it would behoove the owners to invest in some remodeling. Pros: Great view, great service Cons: Very, very dated decor more

Dated, worn but kinda homey if that's your thing 12/15/2008

I'm not exactly sure where this place fits. It's a bit too expensive to be a casual dining place. The decor is too dated and unfashionable to be a good place for a special occassion or a date (unless you wear dentures). The food is mediocre. The view is excellent. However, if this is for a special event, I'd just as soon spend an extra $$ per person and eat at Monterey Bay or one of the other restaurants on the hill. more

Worst experience ever for a handicapped person in Pittsburgh 10/5/2008

Happy 250 Pittsburgh, we made reservations for a 9:30 sitting to have dinner for my parent's 30th anniversary and see the beautiful fireworks display from one of the best seats in town. Arriving at 8pm to miss the traffic on Mt. Washington, we pulled in to have our car valet parked as I called ahead of time that evening to see if there would be valet--the girl on the phone said of course. My father is handicapped. The valet attendant was very rude and would not park my car--had to park 2 1/2 blocks away. Watched people slip the hostess money to get seating before others. Drunk people falling all over the place while waiting 2 hours for a table. Once the fireworks were over, we couldnt get to my car to bring back to my dad to pick him up, so we waited to eat --big mistake--finally got seated at 1115pm ALMOST 2 Hours after our reservation time. The wait staff was very rude, they had a busy night and could care less that we were going to pay just like the people ahead of us did. I have eaten here before on a slow night and it was nice--not quite worth the $$$. They had a different menu--$$ more than normal menu. Soup was cold, they rushed us through. Brought our dinners before they took away the salad plates. While waiting outside before the dinner--we watched the waitstaff and kitchen staff walk your food from a basement outside passing hundreds of people and then they took it to your table--Sanitary??? bathroom was dirty, Horrible experience to bring your parents to. We live an hour away and spent almost 41/2 hours here for a horrible dinner. The hostess and waitresses were super rude. it wasnt our fault they overbooked the reservations---greedy restaurant owner and I could have cooked a better dinner at home and saved $150.00. We will never go back to this restaurant and would recommend any other restaurant for a special occasion like this. My recommendation--have dinner downtown and ride the incline for the view. Save money, time and sanity. Pros: The view Cons: valet service poor, price for quality, staff rude, reservations dont matter more

Great View, average food 5/30/2008

I've eaten at the Georgetown Inn several times. Obviously the view is amazing and very scenic. The menu is not very extensive, but it contains your standard meat, fish, pasta dishes. Each entree comes with a soup and a salad. The last time I visited I had the ""Steak Oscar."" It was a small filet accompanied by a small side of fettuccine with an alfredo crab sauce. The steak was cooked fine and the pasta was also fine, but I've never had a meal at the Georgetown Inn that ""WOWed"" me. The prices seem reasonable considering you get a salad/soup/bread with each meal. The one major thing that turned me off was the small dining room can get very noisy/loud if there is a large party at a table. Pros: Scenic/Reasonable price Cons: Small dining room, average food, difficult to park sometimes more

Needs new chef and service! 5/14/2008

We visited Georgetown on Saturday night. We had 7:00 reservations and were told to wait upstairs in the lounge. When we sat at 7:41 I think the hostess forgot to inform the server she had a table because it took several minutes for ANYONE to come to our table. We found out our server was also just seated with a party of 13 and we were made to feel like an ""inconvenience"" rather than a ""customer"". Everything went downhill from there. We ordered a bottle of wine and they brought the cheeseboard. We ordered an appetizer and our server was ""lost"" again. By the time we ordered the main course it was after 8:30! We then received our soup - 18 minutes went by before we received our salads. Then the main course; how exciting! UNFORTUNATELY our son's grilled salmon was the ONLY dish prepared correctly but was lukewarm! Both my husband's and my steaks were ordered medium; his was Medium-Well to Well and mine was COMPLETELY well-done! Of course trying to find our server to inform her would have put us there until midnight! Then we received our check and it was wrong! She had given us the wrong check and put our gift certificate on THAT check! She brought us a check back where she tried to deduct the gift certificate off the line items on our check; which means we NEVER saw an accurate dinner check! Seriously the ONLY things positive about this experience was the wine and the view! And of course sharing the evening with my husband and my son. I tried to contact the owner and was told they would get back with me but, to no big surprise, NOTHING! I don't understand how people can give this place such a rave review if it is any indication of our experience. Shame on Georgetown for at least not having the courtesy to call me back! Bad business since there are too many places in the Greater Pittsburgh area to spend nearly $175 on a dinner for three people! Pros: View only - not Ambience as VERY loud on first floor! Cons: Food preparation and quality, Service, and noisy atmosphere - NOT Romantic! more

In need of some updates 9/30/2007

After a long hike up Grandview Avenue we came upon the Georgetown Inn. We were hot, tired and hungry, so we stopped here for lunch. I would give this restaurant a 5 star rating for the view. We were fortunate to get a table at the window. It is a magnificent view of the city where the two rivers form into the Ohio River. I can't say enough about the view. \r \r The restaurant itself is in desparate need of an udate. Everything is\r worn and you just don't get a clean feel while you are there. Some of\r the white cloth tablecloths had stains that did not come out in the wash. \r \r My salad had a number of pieces of lettuce that were very wilted and browned. I expected the waitress to apologize when she saw what I left on the plate, but she didn't. Now, I am talking VERY BROWN.\r \r The menu is from the 70s. It definitely needs some updating. I am a vegetarian and my only option was an omelette. If I were a vegan, there would not have been a choice at all.\r \r I really think if this restaurant would give itself a make-over in decor and menu it could be quite a distinctive place.\r \r Pros: View of Pittsburgh if you are lucky to get a table by the window. Cons: Menu from the 70s, not vegetarain friendly, lack of freshness of salad when we were there more

The Georgetowne Inn 9/9/2007

I recently hosted a bridal shower for my daughter-in-law to be at the Georgetowne Inn, and it was a wonderful experience. We had 36 people at the shower, and Debbie made sure everything was set up so that we had room for gifts, cake, and prizes as well as room to decorate the tables with favors and centerpieces.\r \r Our servers were excellent. They were very attentive to our needs, kept checking back to see if everything was okay, and very efficient about clearing things and leaving us time to celebrate and enjoy our time together. \r \r The food was excellent, and the view superb. The bride-to-be is from the state of Indiana, and she and her family were very impressed.\r \r The next important family gathering will be at the Georgetowne. Pros: Everything more

A very nice evening! 7/7/2007

My family wanted to take our Grandfather out for his 80th birthday. We wanted to take him to a place that was in town. I heard of the Georgetowne Inn so I figured we would give it a shot. I called ahead to get some extra info that was needed, directions and if my handicap Grandmother would be okay in the establishment. I happened to mention in conversation that it was my Grandfather's 80th birthday. Later that night we head down to eat. We were seated upon walking in the door. (Given it was a Monday night) We all had a delicious meal, with tons of food! If you leave their hungry it is our own fault.( All meals come with soup AND a salad.) Our waitress was very good and kind! After we were done with our meals, out waitress brought out a cake dessert for my Grandfather. All of us thought another had mentioned it to them. Once we figured out that no one had said anything, we asked our waitress how she knew and she told us that the girl I talked to on the phone wrote it down. I just thought it was the nicest guesture! I know my Grandfather thought it was nice and we were all grateful the did such a sweet thing. We enjoyed our evening, with the best view in Pittsburgh. We WILL be going back!!! Pros: The BEAUTIFUL view and kindness of establishment more

One of the best!! 5/22/2007

I've yet to have a bad experience at this place.Sometimes service may be a little slow but always well worth the wait. The view of the city is outstanding! Pros: the food, the value, the view Cons: slow service / when very busy,to be expected more

I've never seen anything like it 4/28/2007

my husband and I dined at the establishment this saturday night, and I can honestly say that I, as a patron have never been treated so poorly by a bartender in my life.... I can't believe that the upstairs bartender still has a job if he treats al his patrons the way he treated me. And I can't believe the management of this restaurant tolerated his behavior. He is downright RUDE. My husband and I had an 8:30 reservation. When we arrived we were told that are table was not quite ready and that we should wait at the bar upstairs. When we got there I couldn't decide what to drink, the bartender told me I needed to ""make up my god-damned mind about what I wanted to drink"" , that displays absolutley zero classs. I was stunned. Why should I go out to be treated like this. I will NEVER EVER EVER GO BACK !!!!!! Pros: Service once seated is wonderful. Our waitress was awesome Cons: The bartender upstairs more

Not worth the price; tastless food 3/31/2007

This was our first visit, and our last. My husband's clam chowder had not one bite of meat in it. It was a poorly done tasteless version of a vegetable soup. The bread was flavorless. Our food was tepid when served. Neither of our meals were good. They were average at best, although my husband complained that the sauce on his was ""cloying"". His chocolate cake looked and tasted like Sara Lee. My carrot cake was still partially frozen...yes, frozen! It was tasteless as well. I didn't even finish it. The service was surly. For over $100.00, our money could be much better spent. I'm actually offended that so many people review it nicely and that they call it 'romanic' when there are better views of the Point and better restaurants, such as the steakhouse in the Sheraton at Station Square.\r Pros: None, not even the view. Cons: The food was the worst part, but everything else is sub-par. more

Wonderful experience! 2/22/2007

I've been in Pittsburgh for almost a year and just recently discovered the Georgetowne Inn.What a beautiful restaurant. It looks like you're stepping into an old world pub, tucked away in a small village in Europe. The menu was simple with a great selection of steaks, seafood, chicken and pasta. The view is one of the best, over looking the point and three rivers beautifully. There are so many good restaurants in Pittsburgh to enjoy, this is a great one to enjoy. Pros: view and food Cons: a little too dark more

very pleased 2/19/2007

My lady friend and I enjoyed a lovley dinner at the Georgetown on Valentines day.Although it was very busy everything was top notch.I also find it to be the most value for the $$ in all of Mount Washington. The view, the service and the food is in a word...heavenly.Try it,you'll love it! Pros: view, service, food and value Cons: parking more

disappointed! 2/17/2007

My husband and I took a client and her husband a few weeks ago to the Georgetowne Inn and I want to say the staff was very nice and polite. However they need to invest money into expanding the bar areas and they need to hire a chef that can prepare a meal and have it served to their patrons warm. Everything was served either room temperature or cold. I do alot of entertaining with clients and I will say I will never entertain at the Georgetowne again. The only nice thing about spending $400.00 that evening for 4 people was we had a window seat. Pros: Nice staff Cons: Meal was horrible served cold or room temperature more

GREAT DATE PLACE 2/12/2007

I love going to the Georgetown! My parents took me when I was younger and now I like to go just for a great dining experience. The food and service is right on everytime.I go for business as well as personal preference and I can honestly say I've never had anything but a great time.I'll keep going and proably take my kids (when I have them) to keep the family tradition going. more

Geat place 2/1/2007

I recently had dinner at the Georgetowne inn with a small group of friends and I must say I was impressed.Everything from the valet service to our exit was wonderful. We did have to wait for a window table. Our reservation was at 7pm.We didnt get seated until 8.That was to be expected as it was a busy Saturday evening.I will go back because of the menu selection, they have something for everyone, the price was fair and the service was very accomodating.Kudos to the staff!!! Pros: food selection, service, price Cons: cannot request a window table until you get there but worth the wait more

Except for the view, the evening was a total disappointment 12/16/2006

My husband and I went to georgetowne inn for his birthday - we waited an hour and a half to be seated. It was 'light up' night in pittsburgh, so we made reservations several days in advance and were assured we would be seated in time to watch the fireworks. Nothing can excuse making customers wait more than 90 minutes for their table. We came from morgantown, and knew that we wouldn't get a table anywhere else that night, so we didn't have much of a choice rather than to wait. When we were seated, service was slow, and they started cleaning and putting away tables etc while we were still eating! Unacceptable. We have never had a bad experience at any of the other restaurants on Mt Washington. Pros: parking Cons: terrible service/customer relations more

Great Restaurant 10/30/2006

One of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. Everything from the staff to the food to the view is top-notch. Great restaurant to take a date. Food is delicious and affordable and the portions are plentiful. Highly recommended. Pros: Views, pleasant staff, food more
