Gourmet Mexican FOOD at Prices Cheaper than Taco Bell!!! 12/26/2008

Whenever I go broke, it's time to round up the pennies from all the sofas and household vehicles and make my way to the nearest taco bell... although i'm no big fan of taco bell, it's all I can afford. That was the case until about 3 thursdays ago, my friend invited me to happy hour at Fronteras. I didn't even know this place was there but I met up with him. The restaurant was very artsy with it's unique brick wall similar to the one at havana house, I expected a very pricey menu or at least one that was out of my price range. My friend then mentioned to not worry about my beer, that he would be buying??? I then asked what was the occasion and he said ""no occasion, the draft beers are $2 bucks here and so are the margaritas!"" Pros: $2 happy hour, Cochinita Pibil, Service, Prices Cons: Parking more

Best Dish Ever!!! 12/10/2008

You must try the Cochinita Pibil! It is the greatest dish EVER!!! I've been to this place a couple of thursdays for their two dollar tacos and beers (they also have $2 margaritas) and decided to meet up with friends for dinner. Quite similar to the review below, i too was gonna get the barbacoa but the waiter recomended I try the Cochinita Pibil. He said is was just as good as the barbacoa and it was the chefs specialty dish. At the sound of that how can I refuse. Man, was it ever just as good.... it was five times better than any barbacoa dish i have ever tried. Topped with these purple onions i've never tried before, it also came with black beans which i love and the guacamole was too die for. This dish was so amazing and well portioned that I had to thank the waiter. He also went on to say that the chef use to cook this dish personally for a famous boxer which i can't remember cause i like baseball :) Pros: Cochinita Pibil, Friendly Service, Prices, $2 Beers Cons: Parking more

I love Cochinitas.... 11/16/2008

Usually when visiting mexican restaurants, i usually stick with the usual barbacoa or carnitas dinner..... but the waitress at this place recommended a similar dish called ""Cochinita Pibil"" from the yucatan which happens to be the chefs specialty.... I decided to give this dish a try and WOW!!!! I thought i was crazy over barbacoa...i found a new love and it's right in my back yard..... to anyone who visits this place, have someone in your party order this dish, you'll love it. the mexican pizza was tasty too.... but you have to ask for it cause it's not on the menu..... and karaoke was a blast as well. thanks julie!!! more

Hot bartender! 3/10/2008

The bartender at Fronteras is a super HOTTIE! I like the atmosphere when I'm hanging out at the bar, the staff is very friendly. I read another review about the bartender being hot so decided to check out the place. Now, I'm a regular. After going about two months ago I got hooked. Not only is she hot, she's a great bartender. Even girls come in to hang out with VALERIE (the bartender). Get their early to get a seat because she gets that bar full on Wednesday and Friday nights. Oh yeah their food is good too. They have awesome chips and salsa that?s good to snack on. Their appetizers are great and if you go during happy hour their appetizer menu is half price and the beers are 3 bucks! Pros: Hot bartender, good margaritas. more

DOESN'T GET MUCH WORSE.... 12/17/2007

I'm always so reluctant on going out for Mexican food. There's never been a Mexican restaurant that is even comparable to my mother's homemade Mexican food. I had read so many positive reviews on Fronteras that I thought I'd give it a try. What a disappointment! The 2 different margartitas we ordered were like sipping on liquid candy. The beer (draft) was decent. The food was a nightmare! The food was so terribly bland...I couldn't even taste the spices! I took 2 bites of the enchiladas and couldn't stomach a 3rd. The rice was tasteless..the beans were no better. The best part of the meal was the cheese that was on the beans. Next time I', wanting Mexican food and my mother isn't around to prepare it I think I'll go to Taco Bell!! Pros: Cold draft beer Cons: Terrible food more

The Upstairs Patio Rocks!!! 12/12/2007

This place serves the best Mexican Pizza anywhere. Their food is also very very affordable for any meal. I would have to recomend this place to anyone who wants a beautiful restaurant setting for a very affordable price. We asked to be seated in the upstairs terrace, and it was awesome. Open air with it's own little cantina. If you go here, ask to be seated upstairs. Pros: Mexican Pizza, Margaritas, Upstairs Open Air Terrace& Cantina more

Thank You For Everything Fronteras!!! 12/4/2007

Fronteras hosted my Mom's 50th birthday bash and everything was perfect. My family all loved the food and decoration. The service was also a definite plus, with a very at home feeling. Fronteras was able to offer us everything and more at very short notice. I have continued to visit Fronteras with friends and I love their margaritas as well as their manager who is really cute, shhhh;) Pros: Price, Accomodation, Service more

Yummmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! 12/4/2007

This is a great restaurant to put on your list. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced (so you drink more), and they have the best margarita around. And the service is superb, very attentive to our every need. I had the barbacoa and it was the best... I grew up in huntington park, and even they don't have food this good. If you love food, you must try. Their Website is really nice too. Pros: Margaritas, Service, Ambiance, Crowd Cons: ....no more room in my stomach:) more

Great atmosphere, good conversation! 12/4/2007

Fronteras is the place to be if you enjoy good company and a very nice atmosphere! They have a great outdoor patio available with bar for those who like to have the occasional cigarette with friends. The staff is super nice and attentive, they make sure that you have everything you need and do not hesitate to offer prompt assistance just to make you feel more welcomed. I definitely recommend Fronteras! Another plus is that they are located near-by, I live in the West Covina area and there is nowhere to party out this way and I don't like driving off to the pretentious Hollywood area, Fronteras is located in Alhambra, and I don't have to spend a crazy amount for a cold brew. The crowd is down to earth, so check it out! more

Gold Discovered in ALHAMBRA!!! 12/4/2007

We recently stopped by to watch a game, and they had the best sunday champagne brunch anywhere and their margaritas were the best ever, according to my girlfriend. Not to mention the price was very reasonable, and fantastic service. We liked it so much, they will be hosting my company christmas party. A definite hidden treasure in alhambra. Pros: Great Margaritas, Jalisco Barbacoa, Ambiance (very romantic), Price... thumbs way up! Cons: parking more

Best Margaritas in Town 11/1/2007

I've gone several times to this quaint place but recently I had one of there Margaritas, and let me tell you it has to be the best Margarita I've ever had. On this trip I went with my girlfriend and a couple of close friends for dinner. I think I speak for all of us when I said this is the best Mexican food in Los Angeles. I had the Green Chile plate witch is pork marinated in a green chile sauce, highly recommended. The service was very good. We were seated promptly and the staff very friendly and attentive. The bartender is a hottie!! Pros: Great Vibe!! Great Food!! Cons: Parking more
