Great restaurant in downtown Murfreesboro. Highly recommend! 11/18/2008

Great Restaurant with a lot of character. It is downtown near the square. Food is Great as well. I have eaten there a number of times. It is where I eat lunch when I am in Murfreesboro and I will take anyone that will go with me. If you save room, the homemade desserts are awesome. I also order cookies from them- the best cookies in the world- and have them delivered to clients for the holidays. They cater too. We have had them do Thanksgiving dinners. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Great food - in a neat old building. Worth going out of the way for. Cons: Not a chain - so not a cookie cutter experience if that is what you want. more

Worst dining experience I've ever had 10/30/2008

My girlfriend and I decided to dine for lunch at The Front Porch Cafe after visiting the polls. We were seated and preceded to wait about ten minutes for a server. When she finally came remotely close to our table she informed us we would be waiting another minute. They must have been busy with the other ten guests in the dining room. Eventually another lady...maybe a server maybe a manager( noone ever introduced themselves or even said hello for that matter) came by to take our drink order. I ordered a coffee and an icewater and my girlfriend had some hot fruit tea. When our drinks arrived in two trips I noticed my water had a very funny smell, very musky. I was then ignored by one of the confused people who I believe was our server for several minutes. I flagged down another lady and politely ask for a bottle of water. She was interested why and I told her. She was obviously offended and became hostile. When she returned with another water she stood there and said, ""I''ve gotta see this""?? who knows what she was talking about. I informed her I had been working in food and beverage for years and these things happen, in hopes of calming her down. Then our food arrived and it was ok. When I say ok I mean it didn't smell of filth like the water. About half way through our meal a man who I'm guessing was the manager, he never introduced himself either, stomped up threw his hands on the table leaned over the table in my face and said, ""Is there a problem with the water today?"" I was very taken back. I told him it smelled and tasted bad but it was really no big deal. He was very hostile and offered nothing to the situation except animosity. He then stomped off. The server eventually dropped the check. This experience was horrible. I've eaten here before and wasn't all that impressed but I won't be giving this establishment another chance. The worst service and treatment I have ever recieved anywhere. Good luck... Pros: It was cheap Cons: You get what you pay for more

I'll NEVER go back!! 3/31/2007

My family and I recently had lunch at the Front Porch Cafe. I was concerned when I saw that there was no parking since I was driving with my disabled mother. We had to park illegally & I helped my mother out of the car and up the stairs, since there was no handicapped access. I left to park the car & my sister with 2 toddlers, a 3 month old & my invalid mother, struggled with the broken front door as an employee & manager stood there & watched. So much for Southern hospitality!\r \r As I entered the building, my nose was assaulted with the smell of must & mold. The interior was charming, but not well maintained. The whole place could have used a good cleaning. I was ridiculed by our waiter when I asked what was in the squash cassarole. I ordered a BLT, which was small & mediocre & I found what looked like a dog hair on my plate. I asked the other 6 people in our party thought of their food & nobody was very enthusiastic. The one bright spot was the pineapple cheese salad, which was delicious!\r \r After we had ordered, we informed our waiter that we had a coupon from our Entertainment 2006 book & he told us to let the manager know when we paid. When we went to pay, she rudely informed us that our coupon would not be honored because we had not told the server before we had ordered. When asked why, she informed us that it was the ""IRS rules"". She had a bad additude & seemed to take pleasure in denying our coupon.\r \r I will not be eating at the Front Porch Cafe again!! Pros: pineapple cheese salad was delicious Cons: no place to park, bad smell, very bad service & management more

Weird aura, now I know why!! 1/28/2007

I was not impressed by the service or food at the Front Porch Cafe. Both were mediocre.\r \r What interested me was the dark, dank aura that hung over the whole building. I did my research & found out why; it was used as a funeral parlour for most of its existence! No wonder I got ""the creeps"" as soon as I entered! Cons: no parking, bad vibe, more

Great desserts! 1/10/2007

The Front Porch Cafe is the perfect picture of Southern charm, full of atmosphere and history.\r Imagine yourself sitting on the porch of a beautiful antebellum home, drinking a glass of fruit tea or strawberry lemonade, anticipating a delicious meal followed by a fabulous dessert.\r My favorite dish is the Magnolia Delight. It has four different salads: chicken salad, cranberry salad, frozen fruit salad and pineapple cheese salad - topped off with a tasty muffin.\r The Friday night buffet is the perfect chance to sample everything, including a table full of desserts.\r The service and management are very friendly and attentive.\r This is my favorite place for lunch with either a great friend or good book. Enjoy!\r Pros: food, service & atmosphere more

Unique lunch experience! 1/7/2007

Great service and unique menu highlight this lunch experience in a historic home. Menu is different from any other restaurant and desserts are unbelievable. Try the Red Velvet cake! One of my lunch favorites is the chicken crepes. Can't go wrong with anything there and the ambience is great too. I feel like family as soon as I am greeted at the the door til the time I check out. Very friendly staff. Pros: Ambience, desserts, unique menu, friendly staff Cons: parking more

Not very good... 12/4/2006

Bad service, mediocre food, dirty restaurant (the bathroom was FILTHY!), rude manager- I won't be patronizing the Front Porch Cafe again. Pros: The building was old & decorated like a tea room, but it had a musty odor & didnt seem very clean. They had a few good salads Cons: The manager was rude and snippy more

made from scratch 7/23/2002

Wonderful!!!!! the food and the atmosphere are unique and unforgettable!!!! Everything is made from scratch, which includes cakes, pies, casseroles-everything. It is located in a old house, and every room is painted with a different theme. For a lunch experience that is hard to find, i recommend the Front Porch Cafe. The Cafe is located in downtown Murfreesboro, just a block off the square. Go enjoy a wonderful piece of snickers cake~ just don't count the calories!!!! Pros: good menu selection, inexpensive, casual Cons: parking, limited hours open more
