We had a new born baby in November and we too her to the Kelsey-Seybold clinic for two weeks check up because we’ve interviewed a pediatrician there and he is just wonderful. After the visit, the lady from the desk told me that my daughter’s name is not on my insurance and I told her that she was a new born, it will take 15~30 days for them to put her name on my insurance. The lady asked me to pay out of pocket. I ask her if she can file the insurance claim after a week or two and if she has problem with the insurance, she can send me a bill. She refused. I had to pay out of my pocket and she asked me to file insurance on my own.
I filed the insurance two days after that and two month gone by. I have not heard for the clinic so I called the insurance company and they told me that the clinic was paid and I need to go ask them for my money back. I called Kelsey-Seybold business office and they told me they couldn’t give me my money back for two reason:
First, there is one charge which was not paid by the insurance. Since part of the charge was not paid, they can’t refund me the part which was paid.
Second, I had other visits after that. Before Kelsey-Seybold Clinic was paid by the insurance company and that means the balance is not zero. They will have to “hold on” to my money.
I asked the lady on the phone that if I take my baby to the clinic again for any reason, are they just going to keep holding on to my money, and she said yes.
Well, they hold my money for one claim as hostage for feature claims. It does not make sense to me. If it is my responsibility to pay, send me a bill and I will pay. I am not sure where my rights come in, but I am sure I will find out soon!
