Vanessa is AMAZING! 2/22/2011

When I lived in West Hollywood I literally just had turn a corner and take a few steps and I was at Floyd's. I went there for about two years and always got a 'good' cut (way better than Super Cuts on La Brea -Yikes!). A few months before I moved to Santa Monica Vanessa started working there and I just happened to get her one evening and... Wow! It's like she's reading your mind. It's not that my hair is all that complicated (I got a messy yet professional thing going) but when you see it done perfectly you know it. Even though I have to drive a little further to see her now she is totally worth it! more

BAD qulity 6/5/2010

I got a terrible cut in all of 6 minutes - they woman rushed through so fast leaving holes, uneven lines, it was just a mess, and then she was done, she said how is it, and i commented that i would like a little more off the sides. This seemed to bother her, and she gave me a tude about it. I hear her and another guy complain that ""hey its a $20 cut"" and ""these people"" want you to spend extra time and not get paid for it ... or something to that effect. NO TIP - NO RETURN VISIT Cons: MANY more

Hit or Miss... mostly MISS 1/3/2010

Very hit or miss, but the last few cuts have been awful, so I've given up and won't be back. I've had a couple of decent cuts at Floyd's when I first started going, but too many of their so-called stylists are not properly trained with little experience. And, it seems the goal is high-turnover, so they rush though a cut, with little attention to detail or quality. And, out of 7 or so cuts, I've had the ""massage"" offered only twice. I guess some stylists want to save the time and don't offer or they don't feel comfortable with it. My bad cuts came from inexperienced stylists using a razor, creating a patchy, uneven look -- not noticeable at the time of the the cut, but very apparent after 2 - 3 weeks of re-growth -- HORRIBLE... no symmetry, no rhyme or reason (except for the rush to get another butt in the chair). Some of the layers had a straight, blunt, thick edge, some had an angle, some layers were more wispy. With it being a holiday weekend and needing a cut, I was desperate and went to a local, un-trendy, mini-mall to have the bad Floyd's cut fixed. The stylist knew exactly what I needed and even said repeatedly ""I can't believe they did this to your hair. They butchered it!"" She did an excellent fix, but the low-cost Floyd's cut ended up costing double, as I had to go elsewhere to fix it. I will never return to Floyd's. I'd be better off being a guinea pig at a beauty school or going to SuperCuts. At least with SuperCuts, you walk in knowing not to expect much. The trendy atmosphere in Floyd's can lull you into thinking that you're about to get a cut from a professional -- not so. Again, it's hit or miss. mostly miss! Pros: Probably okay for short cut on a man Cons: Inexperienced Staff, rushing to increase turn-over more

Trendy Salon.... 11/30/2009

I have had a couple of bad haircuts at this place, but for the most part I have been pleased with the results. The people are very friendly and always have a good story to tell. The location on Melrose is great. I recommend this place for a nice, affordable haircut. Pros: People Watching, good value more

Great Cut 10/1/2009

Great cut and a good locale for people watching... Pros: Great Cut, Good Location, Good Price more

Scott Riffe 8/29/2009

Scott never fails to do a great job on my hair, its unfortunate that he no longer works at Floyds. As for the negative comments about him below, I have no idea what these people are talking about. He's entertaining, personable, funny but most importantly he does his job very well!!! Floyd has lost a irreplaceable talent. Pros: Entertaining & Great Cut more

RIFFE IS THE MAN! 6/22/2009

I've had Scott cut my hair many times and each time he brings new character to what I thought was almost hopeless hair. I trust him every time and that's a huge relief. I've had very few ""stylists"" or barbers seem to care how I look a week or a month after I leave their shop. Scott removes the worry factor. Now, if you've got unreal standards and want to look like the picture of someone else but don't have the same hair or want him to read your mind, of course you're going to have a bad experience. Pros: Listens, knows what fits, funny, easy to talk to. Cons: Only if you're uptight and have barber phobia. more

Laaaaame cut from Riffe 6/20/2009

My regular guy Tony was off so got a haircut from Riffe instead and he's awful. My fringe is lopsided and my layers are uneven. Worse was listening to him brag about ""celebrity"" clients he used to do that I've never even heard of. Floyd's should send that tool back to beauty school. Tony is good though so go see him. 1 star for Riffe and 4 for Tony. Pros: Economical price Cons: Some bad stylists more

Great spot to get your hair cut 4/20/2009

A very cool spot to get your hair cut without breaking the bank. the atmosphere is great and located right on Melrose. Pros: Atmosphere more

they fixed my fried Sirens Salon hair! 4/13/2009

I went Floyd's after a terrible experience with Kristin at SIRENS SALON up the street... I want everyone to know they fixed my super fried hair and now I just have to grow it all back after what the other salon did it me! go to a salon thats busy and w/ a stylist, you can see their skills right away, so don't wait till they it hurts & they ruin your head and then laugh it off like it looks cool! Pros: everyone there is so supportive Cons: loud more

Riffe's Your Guy For Good Haircuts 4/5/2009

Every place I have gone to get a haircut in LA is not only $60 dollars or more, but the people giving the cuts just tend to do their own thing, ignoring what you ask them to do. Riffe listens, is personable and gives you the detailed cut you ask for at less than half the price of most Hollywood stylists and barbers. They say in life it's crucial that you have a good lawyer, accountant, doctor...and barber. -John Shires Pros: Does EXACTLY to your hair, what you ask him to. Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

but stay away from Riffe 2/24/2009

went to Floyds for the first time in December and LOVED it. the guy who cut my hair is no longer there but i decided to go again, thinking others working there would be equally cool, interesting, and creative. well they passed me to Riffe. what a disaster. he's totally full of himself. and he destroyed my bangs. not that hard to cut bangs is it? truth is, i could have handled a so so haircut from someone who was nice and didn't act like he was gods gift to women and hair. i'd rather wait 3 hours than get another cut from this guy. my hair is boring, my bangs look stupid, and i spent 20 minutes listening to a self-absorbed moron. don't do it! Pros: cool decor; funky people Cons: kind of snooty and not up front about the costs more

Sometimes you don't even get what you pay for! 2/10/2009

I got my first and last cut by Riffe! I took a risk trying a new stylist and learned my lesson. I could?ve cut my own hair at home and gotten the same result for free. Not only was my cut boring and lacking style, he was full of himself and had inappropriate comments. I don?t need a flirty chatterbox, I need someone who will listen to what I ask for and give me a great haircut. Melrose is overrated as is this barbershop and Riffe. more

Great men's cut by John @ the Melrose Branch 12/11/2008

Great cut by John (or maybe Jon) I forgot the spelling but have his card. Will surely go back again. $21 for a great men's cut that was stylish yet professional for work. Pros: Good cut, Price Cons: Loud music (god I'm old) more

good cheap haircut 12/4/2008

Nate fixed my hair after getting a bad cut on melrose before going there. This place is busy and open which was kind of cold. But my haircut is now fixed thanks to Nate the guy who fixed it. Pros: good haircut Cons: cold inside more

Cool, Rockin' place....GREAT cut by Riffe!! 10/29/2008

I gotta say, as a female, I was a little skeptical going to a ""barbershop"" for a cut, but w/ the economy so crappy, I've been watching my spending. And I gotta say I was totally AMAZED by my new do!! Riffe is the newest stylist there & he simply worked magic on my difficult hair. I paid less than $30 for a $200 cut & style!! Best deal in town ladies. The shop has that really cool, edgy Melrose vibe & they are rockin out all day. And it doesn't hurt that Riffe's easy on the eyes & a good conversationalist! I'm sending all my friends to him! Hurry up & see him before the secret gets out! Pros: values, attention to detail, great cut Cons: parking more

Terrific Stylist-customer connection 8/26/2008

Nate is more than a stylist - he is your personal cheerleader, confidante, and pal for the whole time you are under his expert care. He makes your time in his chair fun while he asks all the right questions. I am touchy about someone saying they are just going to trim off the split ends....then they proceed to whack off about 5 inches! Not Nate - if you ask for a slight trim, that is what you get. He makes suggestions but does not impose his tastes on you. He is quick, too. Hip, relaxed atmosphere appropriate to Hollywood. Well worth the money. Pros: Great results on a variety of styles - from green mohawk to librarian brown bob. Cons: Street parking is a little tough in an area where every street considers itself entitled to Permit Parking only. more

SOOOO much more pretentious than they deserve to be 8/11/2008

OMG, I hate this place. I went here three years ago and hated it then, but I guess i forgot and got desperate and went again. Everyone there is totally snotty, especially the girl at the front desk. Do NOT Believe the prices on the website -- once they are done with your cut/style/color/whatever, oops, it's $30 more because you have long hair/dry scalp/whatever. This was happening to the person in front of me while I was waiting to pay, then -- guess what -- same thing happened to me. How was the work? Sucked! I told the stylist I wanted my hair to be blowdried really full, and since it's naturally curly, that's easy to do (um...I can do it and I have no professional training). It was flat against my head, with no body when she was done. Also, how about some air conditioning, you cheapskates. It was 95 degrees out and I'm getting my hair blowdried --- even the stylist was sweating. This place was gross and does not deserve your business, unless all you care about is being uber-hip. That's all they care about, definitely not about providing good, friendly service at the quoted price. Pros: on melrose - if you care about that Cons: SNOTTY staff, bad stylists, HOT more

Awesome Cut and Color- why would you go anywhere else? ? 4/30/2008

Dear other consumers: Pros: ummm Bryan- and the poster wall and neat ambiance Cons: No Con here more

WORST HAIRCUT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/7/2008

oh my goodness, i have to say i've had some bad haircuts in my time, but none have ever made me cry. i have NO idea what he was thinking when he cut my hair. i brought a picture to show along the lines of what i wanted, simple shaggy cut...let me tell you it was a straight cut along the bottom, and a second layer on top, staight across. it was awful!!!! i quickly drove to the store picked up bobby pins(i could no longer put my hair in a ponytail) i didn't wear my hair down for two months! Pros: neat atmosphere Cons: haircut!!!!!!! more
