Family Moving And Storage

I hired this company to help me move to a different condo within the same complex; the distance between the two being less than 500 feet. When I spoke to the manager, Jeff, he quoted me 68 dollars/hr of moving and an additional 68 for the moving truck; I asked him if there were any other fees and he assured me that there were none. He even went on to bad-mouth other companies and their over-inflated charges and hidden fees, which he, again, assured me that there were none.\r \r Come moving day and our already stressful move quickly turned into a nightmare. Two movers came, who from the beginning were very rude, abrasive and intimidating. We are a household of women and they took complete advantage of the situation and bullied us quite heavily. Instead of loading the heavy, difficult things first (like the sofas or a dinning room table, i.e. what they were hired for and what was specifically asked for), they took their liberty and sweet time loading the more manageable boxes and nicknacks we had packed away. After three hours of getting nowhere and being direly concerned that we would go over-budget, we finally asked them to move the heavier objects, in order to save time. The 2 movers became irritated and out of spite began to move even slower. 4 hours passed and all that was moved were a couple of boxes, 2 sofas, a table and a small bedroom set.\r \r In between shuffling their feet the 5 feet from their truck to our garage, they took breaks, personal calls and texted constantly; they also shared jokes and lewd comments between themselves at our expense.\r When we contacted the manager, Jeff, about the situation, he was even ruder than his two employees. Things just got worse after this point. We called the police because they began to threaten us and made us feel very unsafe. They threatened our mother behind our back that if she didn't pay them that they would take our property on their truck. My mom was so scared that she signed the papers and gave them the money just so they would leave. They unloaded our stuff and charged us an extra 148 dollars for """"unpacking"" and another 55 for ""fuel surcharge"", which were never agreed upon or brought up. They over charged us over 200 dollars beyond the agreed upon moving quote. It was only after we paid did we realize this oversight, but we were so scared and just wanted them to leave.\r \r Once we paid they took a picture of our house, which completely freaked us out. We've been on edge for the past 2 days. more

I am not one to normally write a review, but I read the review below and was quite shocked. I used Family Moving about a month and a half ago. My experience was great. I am in ok shape, and have done some moving when I was in college so I know how it works. I was shocked how great his guys were at moving. I kept asking them to take a break, it was funny, but they were very polite and worked very hard. We had an entire truck filled packed and moved in about 5 hours. I can't figure out what the complaints are over since it was very straight forward pricing, pay by the hour, extra for packing, which I did myself. As for the guys huffing and puffing, I moved into a 3 story town home, and it was 110 out so ya we were all huffing and puffing a bit. They did a great job, and I am glad to refer my friends and family. It really wasn't that much money considering a Uhaul alone was going to be 200 for the rental and mileage, and insurance, and oh ya, I would have had to do 100% of the work.. What a rip off. If you ever want to experience the sensation of being robbed in your own house. Call these guyys!\r 1. A job that took 2 guys 6 hours the year before took these guys 9 hours, there were 3 of them and they only moved 70% of my house. I hade to fire them before losing more money (There classless owner Steve had the audacity to call my wife ""cheap"" because we were trying to get them to actually do there job on time)\r 2. The movers were thugs who were listening to their mp3 players singing music with fowl language on front of my wife and kids. When I asked them to not do so they ignored us and moved even slower in the job to spite us. Again I called the classless Steve and he asked me ""what I did to upset his crew, who he has had no problem with in all the years he has used them""\r 3. See quote above ""all the years he has used them"". His veteren crew was complainging the entire time about there boss how he calls them for jobs a 5am and tells them show up that day or your fired. 2 of the movers mentioned this is their third week on the job.\r 4. Here is the greatest kicker of all. The website clearly states credit cards accepted. I confirmed that before they moved a single thing. Upon arriving at my new house I was informed $800 cash right now or we bring your stuff to our warehouse. When I called the police they said unless I had a detailed list of every single item that was moved, there was nothing they could do.\r Don't waste your time with these clowns. They have a pretty website with a nice video but it's nothing but a scam!!!\r Beware more

I called this company because I was referred to them by my sister who had used them and said that they did a pretty good job. Moving day came and it was a day from hell. It started when the movers showed up 45 minutes late without calling to let me know anything. They finally showed up and what was supposed to be 2 men turned out to be an old man in his fifties and his helper that was a 100lbs kid that must have been barely 18 yrs.old. So naturally I was concerned because I have heavy furniture and I was worried they couldn't move my items from a single story home into a 2 story condo. Turns out my fears were accurate. I had gotten scratches, dings, dents on every piece of furniture that went upstairs. I had an antique jewelry box that I told the movers to please be careful with because it was my grandmothers and it has alot of personal value. The movers could even do it, a leg somehow got broken off. I was so upset that I started crying. The movers told me not to worry because they have insurance which was a fluke. The insurance they told me about was paid by weight and I was eligble to get $23.00 dollars. Please dont use this company unless you want your items damaged. None of my furniture was padded or wrapped like they promised.My bill came to $876.00 which was more than double what I was told over the phone. I paid a stair charge and a shrink wrap charge that I wasn't told about. I was ripped off. They sent an old man that was slow as a turtle and some kids that did nothing but talk on the cell phone. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will continue to everyone I know how bad this was. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. more
