Top notch service! Highly recommended! 7/23/2010

I just wanted to say how grateful I am that Falls Road is there. When my dog ate a bunch of raisins he was rushed by my father to the Falls Road for emergency care. And what care he received!! Top notch service and treatment. I more

Worst. Kennel. Ever. 7/19/2010

Why, why, why did I give this place a third chance? I am bad dog mommy, but this place is the worst. \r \r My dog was fixed there a couple of years ago and had some complications after surgery (leaking urine occasionally). I brought her back there and couldn't get a straight answer, partially b/c the vet who saw her apparently has a crippling fear of dogs and tried to diagnose her from the corner where she cowered behind a clipboard while I pet my exuberant lab. So I called to complain, and was left a long message about possible diagnoses for my ""male cat"". My pet is a female dog. Then in an emergency, I had to board her, and they're the closest place to me. My boyfriend's mom picked her up and they had misbilled me and misinformed her and I was credited a free stay.\r \r That was a year go. In another pinch, and financially constrained, I remembered the free day. She would be in there for less than 24 hours, my boyfriend's mom could pick her up in the morning. We ran her so she'd be tired, walked her immediately before dropping her off and she pooped and peed. \r \r Picked her up at my boyfriend's mother's last night. Her tail was caked in poop (most of which my boyfriend's mom had washed off before I got her), her nose is rubbed completely raw, and her dewclaw is cracked in half. I called today to say ""what the hell did you do to my dog?"" The woman informed me that this was typical. ""We see raw noses a lot. It's very stressful for the dogs here."" You're really instilling confidence lady. Way to make a case for Falls Road. \r \r She also said that the dogs are let out 3 times for an hour each. There is no way that happened. My dog is the kind of dog who goes to the bathroom immediately upon being let out. There is no way that she was out for three hours total and instead chose to come back into her crate to poop. This, I was told-- dogs pooping in their crate-- is also typical. ""We have to give some dogs a bath 3 or 4 times,"" the woman said, laughing. Again, I had to inform her that this was atypical behavior for dogs, and that if dogs are so stressed in their facility that they are injuring themselves and defecating in their crates, perhaps they need to reexamine how their facility is set up. \r \r I get that it's a kennel and that kennels can be stressful for dogs. My dog, however, has been in kennels before and I have never had this problem. She is crate trained, and actually likes her crate. She's never defecated in her crate or rubbed her nose raw. The staff seems utterly unconcerned that their kennel is apparently the 8th ring of dog hell and suggest that all kennels are like that. I disagree. I'm never taking my dog there again. Oh, wait, I might have to b/c they insisted that I had to get her a canine influenza vaccine that requires a booster before I could leave her. They chose not to inform me of this in my multiple phone calls about her vet records, but instead told me when I had the car packed and was dropping her off. \r \r Worst. Kennel. Ever. Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Read my review. more

The real deal animal hospital 7/13/2010

My wife and I found a dying rat not far from this animal hospital--she had clearly been poisoned. We came in and asked the staff to euthanize her, because there was no way she was going to recover. The hospital doesn't normally treat wildlife, but to their credit, they immediately agreed. Even though we offered to pay for their service, they refused payment. Clearly, they just wanted to help this poor girl. We were very impressed by their compassion, and especially impressed that even though we offered to pay, they refused to accept our money. more

Best care 5/30/2010

I have many pet stories I could tell but to sum it all up Just know they are they best vet hospital I've been to. They have saved my chow chow when other vets wanted to put her to sleep, they performed surgery on my cats and did a fantastic job. They have the best prices because they are more concerned about the welfare of the animals and not taking thier clients for everything there worth. They are great ! Pros: Friendly staff, best prices, cares about pet not robbing you Cons: what cons their great! more

Your Only choice for Emerg. Pet Care 4/29/2010

My kitty was there just for a grooming visit - she was a very fluffy kitty ---- it was discovered that she had some lumps on her tummy - turned out it was cancer ...she was immediatly taken into surgery and was given the utmost care - they have 24 hour staff and my sweet kitty was not left alone throughout the night. Dr. Hammond and his staff's compassion and attention to my kitty extended her life - I am forever thankful for the care she received. Dr. Hammond is the real deal - he truly cares. Pros: Very attentive to pets needs more

Go somewhere else 2/16/2010

I gave them 2 tries. One healthy visit which I waited for 55 minutes to be seen despite having an appointment and a sick visit where I waited 35 minutes to be seen with a last minutes appointment. I probably spent less than 7-10 minutes with the vet. Will never go back. The staff was not horrible but they seemed overworked and untrained. The waiting room is uncomfortable especially for the amount of time that you spend there and the pictures are a joke. The hospital overall was filthy. The cost was unreasonable for the level of service and attention that my pet and I received. I have not heard very good things about the owner but have not personally met him. My advice is to look elsewhere. more

DO NOT USE THIS VET!! 2/2/2010

DO NOT GO HERE!! There are so many other excellent vets in the Baltimore area -- avoid this one. \r \r Falls Road Animal Hospital is over-priced. Though this is not my biggest concern when caring for my dog, I balk at the idea of over-paying for sub-par service. Even more disturbingly, they pad your bill with tests & medications you do not need. Just one example of many: they had my dog's stool tested in-house and planned to send it out of house for a more thorough test. Each test cost about $40. I was not told the price nor (more importantly) told that the out of house test would test for the same parasites that the in house tested for, plus more. I was also not told that the issue was not time sensitive. Long and short: they performed an extra, unnecessary test to increase my bill. When I balked at this, they told me it wasn't their problem as i had ""authorized"" the tests. This authorization consisted of the Dr. telling me he was going to do two tests and then ushering me to the waiting room. \r \r If that weren't enough, I have never spend less than an hour in Falls Road Animal Hospital, even if the actual exam only takes 10-15 minutes. Despite this, I often feel like my own visit is being rushed through. With an exam costs $50 baseline (without any tests or medications), one would hope for first-rate service.\r \r Though I have had a couple of vets that were competent (though none were outstanding), at least one of their vets is truly incompetent, arrogant and careless.\r \r I am a scientist and have an excellent understanding of biology. I also grew up with animals and horses and have a pretty good understanding of vet care. I have never been treated as poorly as I have at Falls Road Animal Hospital, both by the vets and by the support staff. The vets seem rushed and overbooked and often do not discuss my dog's diagnosis with me -- they leave that to the receptionist. \r \r Though I'm sure many people are lucky enough to have an average experience, I guarantee you that Falls Road Animal Hospital gives sub-par, over-priced, careless and arrogant animal care. Every dog owner I have ever met in Baltimore (and that is over 50 people) has a negative story to tell about this facility and none of them use it.\r It is popular because it is well-located, has emergency service and advertises, advertises, advertises. Do yourself, your pet and society a favor and do not go to this hospital. Pros: Emergency service, well located Cons: Expensive, arrogant, incompitent, dismissive more

Poor place to bring your pet 11/24/2009

Went in with my cat for an appointment to get his shots to register him in Baltimore County. Empty waiting room. After an hour and ready to leave with a nervous cat I was told to for into an exam room. Another hour wait. I said enough is enough. The girl at the desk told me I couldn't go until I paid the bill. What bill?? They had done nothing but waste 2 hours of my time. I refused and told them to go ahead and sue me and I would countersue for the waste of time (my standard rate is $175 an hour). Haven't heard word one about it.\r \r \r A friend had brought her cat to the emergency room and they had to keep the pet. For 3 days she called and was told the cat was getting better and should be able to go home. She arrived and was told the cat died 2 days earlier. \r \r I cannot decide if it is incomptentence or just a complete lack caring at this place. All I know is that I have now found a good vet and I will follow her wherever she goes. I will never ever go back to FRAH for all the tea in China! Pros: None I can think of Cons: Overpriced and uncaring more

WORST EVER!!!! 11/2/2009

You walk into this place and at first sight you believe you are in some high class vet where you see head vet Dr. Kim Hammond in pictures with wildlife (gorillas, lions) and celebs. Then you quickly find out he is never there and all the other staff is incompetent. I have never ever in my life been so rudely treated. My cat which turned out to have nothing wrong with it was diagnosed with a severe intenstinal tract problem. After x-rays and the whole works costing me $500+ they found nothing wrong, and reversed the diagnosis. This was the last of 5 bad experiences. I was never informed of the costs so the price hit my like a bag of stones. and then after being threatened with them holding my cat till i paid, plus fees for every night of holding the cat. i was able to pull together the money to pay. I requested all of his records including the x-rays cause i was never going back. The girl at the front desk refused to give the information to me, saying i must pay for them. Last time i checked if i get x-rays i take them home. i told her if they wanted copies they could make there own, i just paid half a grand for them already. They completely refused, and the girl began to mock me and insult my animals appearance. till this day i cant get his records. AWFUL PLACE TERRIBLE STAFF A**HOLE VETS. THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY, FALLS ROAD CAN EAT SH*T Cons: terrible everything esp customer service more

Overpriced with awful customer service 7/10/2009

I dealt with them a few years ago and will never use them again. The prices are outrageous and they are always trying to sell you on something else. This is especially annoying with all the pictures posted of the owner and his fancy cars and homes that are posted everywhere. The worst part is THE WAIT. It would take almost an hour to get my cat back from a simple checkup. They would tell me to pick him up after 3pm and I just sit and wait and wait. The waiting room is always packed with people checking their watches. more

Would not recommend 5/27/2009

First time I went there, my dog had scratched her eye and it was swollen. I called ahead and they said, ""come on in, there's no wait at all."" (I lived 5 mins away at the time.) Being a single mom with a small child ( 7 years old ) who was asleep, I decided to leave her in her room and told my neighbors that I'd be only 30 mins so they agreed to watch her. Got to FRAH and sat in an EMPTY waiting room at 10 pm at night, after telling them I had left my small child at home. After 30 mins I asked them how much longer? The Dr. will be with you. An hour later, when I was very angry, I asked ""why did you tell me to come in if no one was available?"" ""Opps, we forgot to tell you, the Dr. had an emergency right before you came in, not sure how long it will be"". . . Second experience . . . I saw a neighborhood cat get run into by a car on my way to work, I picked it and took it to the FRAH because it was bleeding and dying. FRAH would not look at it unless I acknowledged myself as the owner and would pay any charges. I walked out disgusted and sickened that they would not help this defenseless animal.\r \r Last experience, recently my dog got hurt by my neighbor's dog while I was not home. My boyfriend took her to FRAH without telling me first. She was badly injured and by the time I found out where he had gone, it sickened me because they didn't even try to help by working out a partial payment on the ""estimate"" of $880. They next morning at 7 am, they told me I could get her, but I couldn't get off work until lunchtime. Because I picked her up at 12 pm instead of 7 am, I was charged an extra $80. And the total bill ended up being much more, $1200. A few days later my dog's injury was infected and there was no way I was taking her back there. I'm shocked that people like this place. Every time I have gone there, it's all about $$$. My regular vet had to take out the stiches that FRAH has done, scrub the infected wound clean and restitch everything. NEVER AGAIN. Pros: not really Cons: how much money do you have?? more

Don't bring your pet here if you care about them at all!!!! 5/24/2009

After reading all the reviews I was hesitant to bring my cat here. However being a Friday before a holiday weekend it was nearly impossible to get an appointment anywhere. My cat had a really bad eye infection and respiratory infection and she needed to be seen ASAP. I was seen pretty quickly when I got there Saturday. However, I was not happy when they took my cat from me and I was not allowed to be there after the initial vet exam (getting temp and a brief visit with the vet) After about 15 minutes they brought my cat back out to me. I had no idea what tests they actually performed...only what they charged me for. They sent me home with 3 different meds...eye drops, antibiotic, and pain med. The pain med was one I had never heard of, so later that night I did some research on it. Not only is it not approved by the FDA, but it is known to have a very high chance of ARF in cats!! I couldn't believe they would prescribe this. I don't know if the vet was just uneducated on this medicine, or if they were purposefully trying to cause more problems with my cat to get more money. I could atleast have been warned of this and what side effects to look for. Unfortunately, I'd already given my cat one dose of this medicine. Today (one day after taking her to the vet) she looks worse than she did before the vet. She is not eating and drinking and was throwing up all night long. She's unbelievably lethargic. I am taking her to a 24 hour emergency vet in DC today. I will never, under any circumstance, ever take an animal to this vet again. \r \r Anybody who cares about their pet at all avoid this vet at all costs!!! Pros: easy to get an appointment Cons: poor care more

Wonderful place to take your pets! 5/10/2009

I have to say that Falls Road Animal Hospital has been wonderful with each experience I have had there. I would never take my pets any where but there. A couple of nights ago I had to take my puppy there to be treated to a mild allergic reaction. All of the staff was very attentive, courteous, friendly and made sure that my pet and I were both comfortable and treated with great hospitality. The ER veterinarian was wonderful! There were several other emergencies being seen at the time, more serious than my pet's, when I was there, yet my puppy was tended to as soon as we were checked in, and she was taken back to be treated as soon as it was possible, and I was kept updated on her status by the techs. I am thankful for Falls Road and the the staff there. Hats off to a wonderful place. Pros: Friendly, attentive staff, very educated and courteous Cons: n/a more

Very Grateful 5/6/2009

I am extremely grateful to the wonderful Dr's and staff. I had to take my sick pet there in the middle of the night . They treated my pet as if he were there number priority. The staff was very compassionate and explained everything to me, asked if I had any questions, and were willing to help me as much as they could . I will be very grateful to them for the care they showed for me and my pet. Pros: Exceptional Care more
