Cataract surgery - Jan 2014. \r I am so pleased with the service and staff at the Eye Institute of Utah. They were always cheerful and helpful answering any question I had The surgery itself was great. I have had great success with my vision since the surgery and am now glasses free. I would recommend the Eye Institute of Utah for eye health to everyone. more

I had mine done in 1999 and it has been wonderful until the last few months they just need an inhancement because I am getting older.....love the eye institute. I could have driven home after the procedure and could see perfectly for 14 years more

I have been thinking about having Lasik for a while. I'm -4.25 in my L eye w/ astigmatism and -5.50 in my R eye. Finally a few weeks ago I sent a few emails to different location to set up consultations. I had a consultation at the Eye Institute and I was immediately put off by how old and dark the building was. I continued with the testing and when the tech printed my corneal mapping it showed an elevated spot in my right eye or as the doctor called it a ""hot spot"". Before he dilated my eyes he wanted the doctor to have a look. I didn't wait long for the doctor to come in, but I found her to be a little harsh. She started by saying she agreed with dr so and so that I am not a candidate for lasik due to my ""hot spot""...I don't know if she had me confused with another patient or what, but I had never had a consultation with any other doctor. Ok... She continued to tell me how nervous my eyes made her due to the level of correction. And even though my corneal thickness was better than average she wouldn't consider me for any procedure and told me to see a more aggressive surgeon or wait 5-10 years for new technology. While this was NOT what I wanted to hear I was glad she was not willing to compromise my eyes. Fast forward two weeks. After talking to many family members with eyes much worse than mine, I had a consultation at Hoopes Vision and the ""hot spot"" that showed up on the scan at the Eye institute was no where to be found, Hoopes even scanned my eyes 3 different times. Nothing. I'm a perfect candidate and have my lasik surgery schedule for next week. more

I'm not happy at all!!! I wasn't a candidate for Lasik so I opted for an ICL. The nurses and staff were really great. But I wasn't impressed with Dr. Cionni. I felt like he didn't have the time for me. Anyway, I got the procedure and things were pretty good, but 2 years later my vision has changed where I have blinding headaches every day. So when I called to set up an appointment the earliest they can schedule me is for one and a half months out! What am I supposed to do in the meantime? I can't even see! I feel like they will do any say anything for you until you pay your money and get the procedure. And then they can't get you out of there fast enough. more

I guess I am the odd out because I became very nervous here. I filled out the paperwork did not wait long and they performed a couple different tests. Everything was ok until the doctor on site that day came in with his hair looking like he just rolled out of bed and the dirtiest pair if sneakers you have ever seen. I could see if he was doing yard work but my eye surgeon??? I was there for 2 or so hours and the sales person was very good and personable as well as the reception but when the doctor doesn't take care of himself why would he take care of your eyes? I followed reviewers and went to a couple of consultations and found my fit at Hoopes Vision which is $1,000 more total procedure but you only have one set of eyes too. I want the best for me and gained the best feeling here. :) more

Best Doctors and staff 12/6/2011

I loved the Eye Institute of Utah, their staff, doctors and surjery center. They are sooo friendly and helpful, and make you feel comfortable. They answered all my questions. I had ICL surjery with Dr. Cionni, he did great and I see perfect now. They follow up with me to make sure I'm still doing good. Jill and Laura are the best! Thanks to everyone who took such great care of me!! I recomend them to everyone!! more

Great, Thorough Care 9/10/2011

I had been shopping around for Lasik surgery. I wasn't going to go to one of the national chain Lasik factories, so I went to Moran Eye Center and got a free screening but I wasn't sold on it. Then I found a new eye doctor who recommended the Eye Institute of Utah. I was leery, because Hoopes is such a persuasive advertising facility, but she assured me it was a legit outfit. My doctor recommended also the ICL (Implantable contact lens) surgery since I have severe dry eyes. I hadn't even known that was an option before. My experience with the screening through the surgery at Eye Institute was great. The staff and doctors were great. I see 20/20 and glad I went here- still trying to get used to not wearing glasses! more

Absolutly the BEST doctors 3/8/2011

One thing I have learned is that the BEST doctors don't spend all their money on advertising!! They spend their money on me, their patient! The Eye Institute has been around for years, my grandmother, my mother and now me. The nurses, the doctors and the office staff was suburb!! They have treated almost my whole family and all of us are happy. I have had friends go to Hoops Vision only to be disappointed by the big advertising and non friendly approach to patient care. I'd like to give MY DOCS the big thumbs up. For those of you who complain about wait???? Thats what happens in medicine, your not having a simple procedure, this is your eyes. Thank you to the Eye Institute for giving my family the best possible vision. more

ICL Eye Surgery 3/2/2011

I suffered from extreme myopia, to the point I wasn't elligable for Lasik. My alternative was to have ICL eye surgery which has been said to have even better results than Lasik (plus it's reversable). I had the procedure done almost a year ago and I couldn't be more satisfied! I see more clearly than I ever have before and have the convenience and the comfort from no longer needing to wear irritating glasses or contact lenses. The clear vision is automatic! I love being able to open my eyes in the morning and see clearly first thing. The procedure was quick and I felt no pain. I would recommend ICL to everyone. more

Best Eye Care in SLC 2/28/2011

Yep - these folks know what they are doing! I did my research and didn't pay attention to all the ""big advertising"" that's out there. I'm so happy with my vision and the all of the doctors at the eye institute. they've been there for ever and there's no doubt that they are the best!!!!! more

""See these people"" 2/17/2011

Now I really feel like a senior! Had cataract surgery here this month. The staff here is excellent. Sometimes as a patient, you don't get that ""you matter"" feeling..that won't happen here. These people seem happy to assist you, glad you chose their clinic, and make you as comfortable as possible . Bottom line, they all seem to enjoy their jobs, very professional. more

lasik 5/25/2010

i had my lasik there and was very impressed with all of the staff. my appointments were longer but that was because they didn't rush me through the process. they did a ton of testing and made sure that i was a good candidate. i'm just so glad i finally had my lasik done - and that i chose a doctor's office that used the best equipment and testing procedures.i don't think i would have felt as confident if i'd gone to one of those places that advertise cheap lasik. Pros: service, testing, professionalism more

Don't waste your time! 12/21/2008

Went for a routine eye exam believing this office would be more high tech than the average mall eye care center. It wasn't. A technician called me in and did all the measuring stuff right way, and then I had to wait TWO HOURS totally blind, in a dark 2nd waiting room in no man's land for the doctor to arrive, while continously being told ""it will just be a few minutes"". When I voiced my outrage I just got a shrug of the shoulders. These people clearly do not value their patients' time. I will never go back. Pros: NONE! Cons: Ridiculous wait more

You will not find more qualified professionals 8/8/2008

I am certain that the Eye Institute does not intend for people to have to wait for service. The wait is most likely because everyone knows how good the Eye Institute of Utah is and will not go anyplace else. Add to this the fact that they do not turn anyone away and try to get everyone in as soon as possible, and you have a backlog. I have been treated by them for 7 years now, and have never had to wait more than two weeks for an appointment because of their ability to schedule. I was not fortunate enough to be a candidate for the surgery, however was fortunate enough that they diagnosed my Eye disease which had been incorrectly labeled as a bad stigmatism all my life. I continue to go to the Eye Institute even though they are not covered by my insurance. Sure sometimes I have to wait a bit, but guess what.. the best are worth waiting for ! My hats off to the entire staff of employees in Murray (doctors, admins, schedulers, finance..all inclusive). They are trying to please everyone, and we know how difficult that can be. Everyone wants to be seen now, and have their surgery the day after they first step in for an evaluation-- They do their best to keep us from waiting calendar days. I guess we can do our part by waiting a few minutes.....Incidentally, had they not diagnosed me correctly and proceeded with surgery?I would have been one of the bad statistics. Oh and did I mention that when they told me I had an eye disease and was not a candidate that they came to tell me with my check in hand? I was in their office three times and they did not want a dime. I would not trust my eyesight to anyone else! Pros: Excellent Care ! Fully qualified. Highly recommended. Cons: If they are good and we are talking about your eyesight, there are no cons ! more

Absolutely the longest senseless wait!! 3/11/2008

My dad had cataract surgery yesterday and a follow-up appointment today. The surgery lasted 15 minutes but he had to wait OVER AN HOUR for the doctor to come in and spend less than 10 SECONDS (not minutes!) to tell him ""It looks good. See you tomorrow."" Today's appointment was a repeat performance. After a 75 minute wait in the exam room, following the 30 minute wait in the waiting room, my dad went out to ask if he had been forgotten and the doctor came in about 1 minute later for again less than 10 SECONDS to tell him ""Your eye still has some clearing up to do but It looks good."" How ridiculous! He will find another place to have his other eye done. WE ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!!!!!! Cons: Waiting time, abandonment, uninterested in patient care or satisfaction more
