Evolution Nature Store - Soho, NYC 8/14/2006

"COOOOoool! Lots of neato stuff that you can't stop looking at. This feels a bit like a carnival freak pawn shop. A must see in Soho. If you are looking for raccoon penis bones and lingam stones, this is the place for you. Also available--velociraptor fossils and scorpion lollipops! (How many licks does it take to get to the middle of a scorpion pop?!)" more

Need more bugs 5/28/2006

That New York City has two different stores to meet your need for formerly living decorations (big framed bugs, skeletons, etc), says a lot. If you need to give a unique gift to a unique person, or have a preference for formerly living creepy crawlies in jars, this place is for you. It's pretty cool actually, but obviously, isn't for everyone. more

Evolution 12/31/2005

If you were to go on an archeological excavation and dig up a bunch of stuff what you would dig up would most likely be the same stuff you would find in Evolution. Skulls, animal skeletons and snake skins, rare bugs, preserved butterflies, dinosaur bones, seashells, rocks and crystals beetles etc. At least a lot of it is cheap. Most is priced under $10. Good place to pick up weird items. more

Unique natural history collectibles... 8/21/2005

If you have a need to decorate your home with skulls, bones, seashells, beetles and other odd things then this store is perfect in everyway. When Evolution first opened in 1993 I thought it would be replaced with something else quickly, well I was wrong and I imagine it's because it offers products you just can't find anyplace else. Halloween costume accessories or gothic decor 8/20/2005

Whether it's your thing year round or just for the big day this place is a surefire hit! It took me a few minutes to get over the bats and strange things that seemed ready to crawl on me. Thankfully it was all dead! They also have really pretty handcrafted and odd jewelry, The staff leaves much to be desired as they all seem bored and full of contempt but I am sure it is a tourist hot spot and they probably are sick of all the oohs, ahhs, ewws and ogling. The prices are reasonable though and some of the items are great conversations pieces! My husband and I will be going again when we resume decorating. We like freaky gothic stuff! more

Evolution Nature Store 8/19/2005

This review will be in song. "It's creepy and it's kooky. Mysterious and spooky and all together ooky, the evolution store. The store is a museum, when people come they squeam, the Evolution store. I admitt I was squimish the first time I walked into this den of framed dead creatures. I quickly got over it and was genuinely caught up in all the interesting things this store has to offer. I love the collection of shells and different stones. I even found a coral ring that I'm sure I'll treasure for years to come. I was always a fan of ooky anyway. more

Interesting 8/17/2005

Evolution is definitely one of the more unusual and unique stores that I have ever been too. It is like going to the Natural Museum except in this store everything in it is for sale. They have wall to wall displays. They sell anatomical charts, ostrich eggs, many different kind of stuff animals( mouse, chicken, skunk,etc.. ) , venus flytraps, animals skulls, bugs, and many more. It is very cool! more

Bugs, Bones, Bliss 8/15/2005

If you're a natural history fan, you cannot miss this shop in Soho -- it's filled to the ceililng with an array of wonders like I've never seen. Beetles, bones, butterflies, geological samples, fossils, freaky taxidermy... they've got everything in various forms, from straight up specimens to framed pieces to items that have been turned into jewelry, keychains, paperweights, etc. A great place for unusual gifts (though there is a danger of going a bit TOO unusual -- how many people want a dead frog that doubles as a coin purse?). more
