I was so excited to try this salon because they said they specialize in curly hair....... it turned out to be even better than I thought. The salon is cozy and clean, the hair stylists are friendly and professional, and the service is fantastic. I think I got the best haircut in years! I highly recommend that you try it for yourself, especially if you have naturally curly hair! more

I've been having my hair cut by Geneva at Essentials for a few months, and they've definitely made a loyal customer out of me. I have curly, thick, completely unruly hair, and I've spent countless amounts of money over the years trying to tame it. Geneva listened to what I wanted, made suggestions, and was really considerate about making sure she didn't take it shorter than I'd be comfortable with. She also took my natural kinks and waves into consideration so it didn't turn out all lopsided and then helped me pick product that works great. Going to St. Petersburg for a haircut from Tampa may seem absurd. BUT, let me tell you-it is worth it! I used to work in St. Pete and Christine has been styling my hair since 1998! \r She cuts my hair the way I ASK HER TO! She does it with finesse! I constantly get compliments on my hair thanks to Christine's professional job! She's never messed up in all these years! \r I moved away for 3 years and could NEVER find a person who would style my hair consistently and to the way that works best with my curly hair. I recently relocated from a large metropolitan city in the Northeast and was not looking forward to trying to find someone to cut and color my wavy and somewhat thin hair. A friend recommended Essentials and I called and was able to get in to see Jim within a reasonable time. To sum up the results: He nailed it! I absolutely love the color - it's close to my old color but is much richer and compliments my fair complexion perfectly. The cut allows me to wear it in a smoothed out professional style for work and in a more playful style on the weekends. I met Jim when he was working at another Salon and gladly moved with him to Essentials to keep the quality of care my highlighted hair deserves. Never regretted it. I drive more miles now but it worth it. Jim was the only one who could get my color right at every touch-up. No more mismatching colors anymore. \r If you want to get yourself a treat - schedule an appointment with Jim and you will hear and see what I mean. He is able to help you with everything you want to have done to your hair. Curls or straight hair - he can do it all. Give it a try and you will see what I mean. You too will gladly drive a little bit longer to get your hair done right. I found a stylist named Tiffany at Essentials after reading a lot of really good reviews about her on naturallycurly dt com and I was impressed that so many people drove so far to see her.....sometimes as much as four hours. I live very close and have been looking for someone who wouldn't just BUTCHER my hair yet again beacause I'm over it and I finally found her!!! If you have curly hair and you are looking for the best stylist ever you need to go and see her. I don't think anyone else knows curly hair as well as she does. Besides when was that last time YOU got a thank you card from a stylist?!?!? Pros: Extremely knowlegable and definitely a curly hair expert!!! Cons: NONE! more
