this is no exaggeration....it was a few years back now but he dismissed my pre-eclampsia signs and this turned into full blown eclampsia.

I also wonder if it is the same person writing those reviews 5/12/2015

Dr. Sassoon has delivered my three children. I wanted as natural a birth as possible. He respected my wishes even giving my exhausting amounts of questions concerning the necessity of all the drugs/procedures/hospital rules a considered response. I always felt I was in control of how much intervention/drugs/procedures were given. My second child was delivered by cesarean due to a rare complication after almost 20 hours of labor. But I wholeheartedly agreed with that decision, and never felt that he was pushing me to make it, or that he was in a hurry in any way. He was cheerful and relaxed and explained what was happening in great detail. My third child was delivered vaginally, like the first, again, with as little medical intervention as I wished. I'm curious where this woman is getting her "high cesarean rate statistics? I'd just like to know. I think if you are using outside statistics to support your review you should list them so others could check them. I do agree with others who have complained about the wait time. It's not every visit, but there have been times when there is a wait which I consider long. But I recall when he came to visit me after my delivery that people were probably waiting for him and yet he never rushed the visit so.... And yes like every other doctor or pediatrician I go to he doesn't take insurance. Like everyone else, I wish this was different. I'm giving him 5 stars for letting me have a natural vaginal delivery after a c-section. more

World class doctor 1/5/2013

Just a quick note to say that was a pleasure to have such a professional deliver my first baby. Having traveled around the world during my pregnancy due my husband work I was pampered and reassured by this world class doctor. R Attary more

Amazing doctor 12/5/2011

I delivered both of my children with Dr Sassoon. He was amazing during visits and labor and delivery. With my first I was so nervous about delivery but he made me feel comfortable. I found the staff to be incredibly nice and even now when I go in for a annual visit they ask about my girls. I also was induced and had an episiotomy and have had no problems because of it. I would highly recommend Dr Sassoon. more

Great, great doctor 11/17/2011

Sassoon is a brilliant doctor and I would trust my life to him. He is both personable and professional and I always enjoyed my visits when I was pregnant-- time to be examined, time to get dressed and ask questions in his office. You do have to understand that he has his own style. With my second and third children, I wanted a natural labor/birth, no drugs, ivs, etc. He wanted to induce because my babies were "big" and wanted to avoid complications, and we got into a bit of a scuffle. He told me how many babies he had delivered, and I then asked him how many he had had. I stuck to my guns and had my two children with no meds, etc and though they were big (9-9,9-7) and I made a LOT of noise screaming etc. he did not give me an episiotomy and was really complimentary to my success in the end. I would never have gone with a mid-wife, because if something was seriously wrong, I trust Sassoon implicitly to calmly and expertly handle the matter and make use of all the resources of a hospital. MY third had the cord wrapped around her neck and didn't initially cry, but she was fine within minutes. Another benefit of Sassoon is that he is connected to many of the best drs in the city and can get you quick referrals. I feel very lucky to have him as a dr. more

Cecerian's galore- not w/ me 4/20/2011

After reading the reviews, I just wanted to comment that I delivered all 3 of my children with Dr. Sassoon. As far as C Sections, my first child was breech so I opted for the C Section. However, my second two children were delivered VBAC (Vaginal birth after Cesarian )which is unheard of for most dr.'s to do because they don't want to take that insurance risk. Is he the warmest, does he make you feel like you are the most important, not really. But I liked his laid back. non neurotic approach. He is a smart, good doctor who I feel does right by his patients. more

Not there for my delivery. 11/21/2010

In waiting room a long time most visits. Staff in current office impersonal & chilly. As due date approached, I asked for reassurance of his presence for my baby's birth. His pompous response was "All you women want a piece of me." Then smiled & said of course he would be there. He wasn't. Had my daughter 3 minutes after the arrival of someone I had never met who told me he didn't get the hospital page even though I'd been in the hospital for 2 hours. He then proceeded to be rude by telling me I was making too much noise!!! Last & most importantly, he performed an episiotomy I specifically told him & Dr. Sassoon I did not want. It took me a year to be able to sit down without pain & I had lost vaginal control. That took 3 to 4 years to partially regain. Never, ever with Robert Sassoon again. more

the best! 7/30/2010

Dr. Sassoon delivered both of my children. He was always available, kind, smart, everything you could ask for in a doctor. The thing that will strike you the most when you meet him is what a good listener he is. He really cares about his patients and tries to alleviate any and all fears. I am now in my forties and past the baby making age. Still, Dr. Sassoon provides me with the best care possible. Recently he gave me a DNC to remove polyps. He called me himself to tell me they were benign. I have never written a review but the negative comments I stumbled upon here enraged me. Dr. Sassoon is a very special doctor and I feel blessed to be in his care. Amy Koppelman more

Find the other postings odd 7/2/2010

I find it extremely odd what the other posters wrote and now wonder if it is the same person posting again and again. Just to address some of the main issues that were addressed by other commentators: First, he has only 4 children and not 5. Second, he has no partner and there is no large practice; Third, he does not administer the drugs that is an anesthesiologist at the hospital and not the ob. Fourth, he does have an NP on staff. Fifth, my husband and I visited other ob/gyns and he was the only one who did not speak to my husband and I as if we were clueless about the process of giving birth. In fact, he treated us as intellectual equals. In regards to my birth experience, I was also induced and he let me labor in L&D for over 15 hours before he addressed the idea of c-section. We waited longer and then after almost one day had passed did my husband and I make the decision to go ahead with the surgery. It was a good choice considering the cord was wrapped around my child's neck. At no point, did we feel pressured by him to have a c-section or that we were on "his schedule." Like the other positive reviewers, he visited me and my child almost twice a day and provided very good care. The only reason why I am giving him 4 stars versus 5 is that he doesn't take insurance and it is a lot of $ to pay up front. I hope this addresses some of the issues that other people remarked about. more

Love love love him! 5/31/2010

Dr Sassoon delivered all 3 of my children and there is no other doctor in this world who I trust more. I actually had the opposite experience and begged him to induce me and he wouldn't. I have several friends who delivered with him none of which were induced and none of which had c-sections. He is amazing caring and both my husbands family and well as mine loved him. He is calming and professional in the delivery room and is always available to his patients! He visited my child in the NICU everyday which is above and beyond his call of duty. I would and have highly recommended him to friends. I'm sorry to hear some of these terrible stories. more

wow...i just read EXACTLY what happened to me! 12/2/2009

One of these reviews is SO ON POINT! I went to Dr. Sassoon because another physician said i would love him. He was okay through out my pregnancy and my appointments were quick and routine. Thank God I had a very easy pregnancy. Then as I was approaching my due date he said that we should schedule an induction on my due date. My husband did some research and said that he had heard that there was a higher c-section rate associated with inductions, especially since it was my first delivery. Dr. Sassoon told him "I am sure you are good at what you do, but if something happens to that baby, your wife will have to live with you for the rest of your life." Totally unprofessional. Instead of having a medical conversation explaining his position, he was rude and condescending. My husband reviewed medical journals, not Cosmo or Glamour magazine. Well guess what...I had a c-section. Baby is beautiful and healthy...but Dr. Sassoon was extremely unprofessional and interested in making his life easy by scheduling births at his convenience. more

Beware! 11/11/2009

I just read the "awful" review by Kim D. and I can't agree more!!! Kim D. may have ended up with a C-section but I ended up paralyzed!!! I can finally walk again but my legs remain numb. Sassoon told me I'd be ok, he said a few other of his patients became temporarily paralyzed after he induced them and he acted like it was no big deal. It was astounding! It took a year to be able to walk normally again. After 6 years, I still don't have feeling in my legs. Instead of suing, I've told my story to everyone who will listen. Please beware and don't let Sassoon talk you into being induced to fit his schedule. He has one of the highest c-section rates for a reason. more

He is NOT delivering my second child 10/20/2009

I should have paid attention to my gut feeling at the very first visit, because it was right! He had been highly recommended to me so I decided to give him a chance. I thought that in case something went wrong, I would be in the right hands, even though he was belittling and did not like to answer my questions. Like with the other reviewer, he also wanted to plan an induction on my due date, which I ended up not needing. Worst part, I was not in the right hands: he was absent at the delivery room during most of my (short) labor, resulting in serious tear. The nurse didn’t do her job either! I do not want to get too graphic but I was in pain and discomfort for MUCH longer than needed. I went to see him TWICE after delivery complaining about the tremendous pain, unusual 2 or 3 weeks after giving birth. He scoffed at my concerns, told me there was nothing wrong with it and that the only thing I could not do was to have sex just yet!! Over the next year I saw two doctors about my complications and I ended up needing surgery a year later to correct what he thought it was just “normal scarring tissue” In summary: stuck-up, careless, overpriced and plain unprofessional. Save your bucks and your precious time for a real CAREtaker. more

THINK TWICE! 1/7/2009

NO WAY- ever again, would I deliver with him. He scoffed at my questions, was belittling, was obnoxious to my spouse, talked about his wife and 5 kids ad nauseum without seeming to care the slightest about my pelvic cramping in the 2nd trimester... or spotting... trying to reach someone on the phone is impossible. He has no NP and his partner is hard to understand the phone... BAD PRACTICE more

awful! 1/7/2009

He convinced me to plan an induction on my due date even though there was no medical indication AND I wasn't even dilated (cervix wasn't soft either). Guess what? I ended up with a C section. When my husband and I asked him why he wanted to induce me since the literatures shows there's a higher rate of C sections with inductions he was very rude and condescending and told my husband that he shouldn't ask him questions about 'his' job that he's been doing for over 20 years. But he never informed us of this possible complication and we only brought it up because we had read about it. Each visit I had with him was quick but fine... I never felt he was a fantastic doctor or had great bedside manner- but he was fine. But this flipped me out since he didn't even answer our question and told us basically not to 'question' him.!! I was shocked and had I not already been due just a few days later when we had that conversation I would have walked out on him. Not to mention that he doesn't take insurance and I had to pay out of pocket! NEVER AGAIN! more

Great OB-GYN 12/7/2005

It's one of the toughest fields for a woman to find a good doctor and Dr. Sassoon is great. He's got movie-star looks with doctor brains .. he takes his time and makes you feel at ease even in stirrups. more
