Never Again will I have my pet torutued at Dogma Grooming 2/17/2012

One star is too many for this bad and horrible groomer. I once took my dog to DOGMA Grooming in Carytown and they cut her belly open and handed her to me without saying a thing. I transfered my dog to my other hand to pay them and noticed blood in my hand. That is when I knew something was wrong.. They first tried to blame me for the huge gash in my dogs stomach by saying it must have happened after I left. Yet, the front counter person said, she had not left the store yet. Then they tried to say it was because I did not brush her enough. A three inch gash in the belly on a toy poodle is not caused by not brushing her. I will never take my pet to this shop again. They could have at lease apologized but no, the big scraggley blonde haired guy behind the counter insisted on blaming me and blaming me. I was not the groomer and she did not have a gash before I took her to Dogma Grooming and Pet Needs.\r They clearly need to learn something about customer service and how to apologize for your mistake. To blame the customer for a bad grooming job is just totally lame. more

Flash, not substance 9/24/2011

Very disappointing even after multiple chances.First; I was given a price estimate of $60 for grooming (in the morning-day of the appointment) and ended up being billed for $90; got a shrug when asked why. This was not for anything fancy, just a bath and nail trim with a few clips here and there -a ""natural"", minimal hair cut. Not some poodle looking high tech shave! Then after being lectured for feeding my baby inferior food, I got suckered into one of their premium brands. By the time they finished with the high pressure tactics, I felt like I was abusing my dog for feeding her garbage, so I bought their stuff. Then each time I went to pick up more, they had run out-had to come back later. And the price kept going up! This last time, I was very frustrated and in a rush so foolishly, I asked if I could have 2 15lbs for the price of the 30lb (otherwise you have to pay 13 bucks more!!) - Rudely told NO, like I must be crazy for asking; she also said she would lose money if she did that (I don't even think that is true). Asked who else carried it. Again with the shrug. Across the street carries it by the way. And nobody lies or rolls their eyes at me. And if they run out because they don't know how to order to keep it in stock they will let you have 2 mediums for the price of the large. more

Wonderful, Experienced Care of My Babies 12/2/2009

!The talented and awesome staff at Dogma has been amazing to me and my boys (6 1/2 year old Lhasa and 2 year old Shih Tzu)! After years of botched cuts from chain pet stores with grooming facilities, I was recommended by a colleague to take my boys to the best groomer in Richmond. And boy was he right! That was almost 2 years ago and I have been so fortunate to have my boys cared for by the Dogma crew! I feed my boys nothing but high quality food and treats and am so happy that Dogma has it all! The manager is so helpful and knowledgeable. I am so fortunate to have found this gem! Highly Recommended to all looking for the best! Pros: Awesome customer service and attention to my boys more

Your animal stays in a crate all day. no water/no walk. 9/12/2009

Dogma does not take appointments. You take your dog to Dogma in the morning and pick up in afternoon. I took my 12 year old golden retreiver in to be groomed at 8 am. Called at 4 pm was told to pick him up at 6. That's a long day. I called back to confirm that he had access to water and had been taken out for a walk. The answer to both was NO. Due to liability they are unable to take animal outside & therefore do not offer water during the day. This is NOT the way I want my animal treated. How about you? I immediately went to pick him up and was insulted and yelled at by the owner for questioning her devotion and treatment of animals. Actually to be more specific she called me a ""spoiled ________ someone who always got what she wanted"". And, she was right, as far as my dogs are concerned, I am their advocate & I insist they get the best care all of the time. Treatment here was not humane. Pros: n/a Cons: very poor treatment of animals. more
