Nothing says class like eating on a river boat turned into a hotel and restaurant. Except when it comes to eating substandard food there. The Delta King is really an odd blend o...

we are going back again! 8/3/2010

My wife and I stayed on the Delta King for 4 nights. My friends daughter that I had known since she was a little girl was getting married on the boat on a Sunday and we checked in on the friday before the wedding with most of the wedding Party. That friday we went to the Murder Mestery Dinner on the boat and had a great time. While the rooms are small, the charm and history of the boat made you forget all of that. If you want to have all of the ammenities of a 5 star hotel, this is not the place for you, but if you want to have a good time and take in the history of the Delta King and old town Sacramento which is right across the street, then by all means this is the place for you. The staff was friendly and helpfull, and the breakfest in the Captains Room was very good and at resonable prices. The boat was restored after sinking and being raised. It was originally used as a comutter ship from Sacramento to San Francisco and back (a twelve hour trip each way) so the rooms were no set up like a cruise ship. Being a carpenter and having restored wood boats in the past, this was a great experience for me checking out all of exceptional wood restoration that the ship has to offer. When my wife and I had breakfest one morning, overlooking the Sacramento river in the dining room, it was as though we had taken a step back in history. After having read some of the negative reviews, I just think that there are some people that will never be happy and look at what is wrong rather then taking in the charm of the bigger picture. Just my thoughts on the subject. We are going back again with some friends, however we are going to reserve the 2 bedroom suite. If you can stay mid-week the rates are cheaper, but the rates that were qoated when we stayed, unlike some of the other reviewers statements, were the rates that we were charged. Have fun, enjoy life, and complaine less, you will be a lot happier. Pros: hotel more

  • In Short
The Delta King is an old paddlewheel boat that has been transformed into a hotel and restaurant. Lucky patrons are pampered as they gaze out the windows onto the murky but charming Sacramento River below. Lunch and dinner are fairly subdued and elegant, and diners can enjoy house specialties like the Fisherman's Stew, a fancy Caesar salad, and many pasta and seafood specials.
