Today I used Dean's Plumbing for the first time. I took a chance, choosing your company from the Yellow Pages because of the professional looking ad. I am very pleased with the service from beginning to end. The phone was answered promptly and courteously, and within 45 minutes, a plumber was at my house. Trent was polite, knowledgeable, and communicated clearly. Everything we agreed upon was efficiently and neatly repaired to my satisfaction. How refreshing! In retrospect, I cannot believe I used this company. I called for an easy job that was not urgent. - a leaky tub faucet that had been there for years. I finally wanted it fixed. I landed with the wrong company. First of all, they say they will give you an estimate of the work that needs to be done before charging you (except the trip charge of course). Right away he launched into the worst case scenario of everything having to be replaced incl. the shower head which was ridiculous. It could have been option A or B, but he didn't know that until pulling the faucet apart. What a bunch of BS....first of all, the estimate should have included pulling it apart and seeing the exact problem and then telling me the estimate. The guy was creepy with his sales pitch from the get go. I finally said that I wasn't going to pay for anything with the high end price he gave me (shouldn't have for the low end either) so if it needed to be more than the low end, I wasn't going to authorize the work. Not surprisingly then he says he'll pull the faucet off to look. Then, he starts to say the faucet is hard to come off and that my husband may have wrenched on it too much trying to fix it. Convenient. After I repeated that I wouldn't pay for more than the smallest work done he conveniently got the faucet off and what do you know? It was a small job afterall. -fix a component (forget what; paperwork upstairs) for about $450. What a rip off. Not only is the price ridiculous, I felt completely violated by the guy in the sense that he had no moral or ethical compass what so ever. I think this company is a complete scam. I will never use the BBB again either. What a joke they are. more

I have a 10 month old little boy, so when I woke up at 11pm freezing cold in my house because my furnace was out, I called Deans. A REAL employee answered the phone and was able to send a technician out. I was a little worried because she wasn't able to quote a price over the phone, but then I though - do you call your mechanic and say your car wont start - how much to fix?? nope, how do you expect a heating person to do that - I would rather have no quote, then have them make up a number with no intention of sticking with it. The heating guy came out and was able to get my furnace up and running that night, he left me with a comparison of what a new furnace would cost compaired to the 20yr old dinosaur we had. We thought about it for a couple days and then decided it would be cost efficient to upgrade, we called Deans and was able to get on the schedule for the next day to have the new furnace installed. The installation went smooth and everything has been running great. more

Called Deans Plumbing and heating to check out my furnace. The blower would not turn on in auto mode but would turn on in manual mode. I knew it was either the thermostat or motor switch. The guy arrives and said it was more than likely the thermostat. He then proceeds to go down and look at the furnace. He removes the front cover and flashes a light inside the furnace and immediately says I have a cracked heat exchanger. I said, what does that mean? he says I need to replace the furnace (@$5,000). I said I can't afford a new furnace. He says you don't understand, you could have carbon monoxide in your house. I said look, there is a CO monitor 2 feet from the furnace and several throughout the house, we have never had a carbon monoxide alarm. He then said he was required to shut down my furnace and red tag it. I then asked to see the crack. He pointed his flashlight into the furnace and pointed at a tiny grease spot. I didn't see anything that remotely resembled a crack or even a pin hole. I then said you can't detect CO by looking. You need a CO monitor to check for a leak. He said he had one so I said he needed to use that if he was to make the claim of a CO leak. He said he would have to charge 197.00 to get his monitor. (what a scam). I paid the 59.00 travel charge and told him to leave. I went to Mendards and bought a thermostat and installed it myself. Everything now works perfect. I also did some research on the internet about heat exchanger crack claims. One HVAC authority said heat exchanger crack claims by service people are more times than not a ""license to steal"". Scamming people into buying a new furnace when they don't need one. This was obviously the tactic that was tried by Dean's. Don't believe anything they tell you, better yet, go somewhere else. more

I really appreciated the plumber who came out to my home this weekend, his name was Trevor. I called Dean's because I saw they were offering a special for $99 for the main line. I was told that the special didn't apply for the weekend and I was a little discouraged. But then the lady on the phone said she could call the plumber who offered the special and see if he would like to work. I was very very pleasantly surprised that he would come out for me. I find the kind of customer service Dean's offers to be refreshing. I appreciated the person who answered the phone and the plumber for working on a weekend and getting the job done without any mess or attitude (because he had to come into work, he was very polite and courteous). more

False promises were made. Very rude and sarcastic crew. Some items that were installed weren't really necessary...we eventually had to ask another company to remove them. Expensive...I feel like I was taken advantage of. No return calls from the manager. I will never ever recommend this company to anyone. I give Dean's Plumbing a two thumbs down rating...the worst company I've ever dealt with! Cons: No code of ethics... more

I had these guys come out because they were offering to come and check things out for free (some sort of two day special). The guy seemed nice and everything, but I now know the jerk completely lied to me. He probably saw me as some stupid girl who would do whatever he told me. Prior to him coming over, I was already certain that the blower motor on the furnace was out. He confirmed that, but then he told me the high limit switch also was not working. The estimates on these two things were well over $1000 (grossly overpriced)! He then told me because the high limit switch doesn't work he can't install a new motor without installing the switch. He can't do one and not the other. He also told me that my furnace was nearing its end at 13 years old, and offered the pricing of a new unit. There's a slight possibility that this technician was incompetent, but I think he was just trying to take advantage of me. I went with another company which turned out to be excellent(Prescription Heating and Cooling). Turns out the high limit switch was functioning perfectly and didn't need to be replaced. I was also told how great of a shape the furnace was in. The guy from Prescription Heating told me that my furnace as a whole should last about 23 years. I did some researching, and yes, my furnace should last about 20-23 years not 13. I cannot for the life of me comprehend why Dean's is on the BBB list. From all the bad reviews out there and the crap they tried to pull on me, it's unbelievable they could get a stamp of approval from the BBB. I am planning to report them. Stay away from these guys! Called Dean's for a furnace cleaning. The tech discovered a broken heat exchanger and explained the only option was to replace the entire furnace for $4300 (base model for a 900 square foot home). I asked about the warranty or replacing the part and was told the unit is too old and the part cannot be replaced. He proceeded to remove the furnace and leave to come back another day. I followed up on the warranty and the original installer told me that not only was the part replaceable for 1/5 of the cost, it was still under warranty (they also quoted the same type furnace at $2500). After I made an appointment with the original installer to replace the exchanger I called to cancel with Dean's. The tech called back to say that they would charge $440 for the furnace removal. Several phone calls with Dean's since then and I have only been insulted, further deceived and threatened. Save yourself the trouble and money and look at another company. Want to pay well more than double the market price? This is your guy. I found myself in a 40 degree house on a 10 below zero day... Needed a hot surface ignitor replaced. Being a first time homeowner, I had no idea what this should cost, so I sucked it up and paid the $890 in addition to the $150 emergency service call charge ($1040 total). That is right- to replace an ignitor that costs $25-50 and took no more than 15 minutes to install. I didn't know before hand, but you can bet that as soon as I told someone what I paid, their jaw dropped to the floor, causing me to do some comparison shopping, only to find out just how much money I'd been taken for. Please do not call this company, and spread the word. I would absolutely hate for anyone else to end up in this situation. more
