I made an impromptu appointment on Monday when I found them in Baltimore Magazine's ""top salons"". Even though the salon was closed, the owner answered the phone and booked an appointment for me the next day. He was friendly and very professional. Very good start. When I arrived at the salon I was greeted and was in the chair right on time! Rachel was totally adorable, so nice, friendly and on the ball. By the end of my visit I was having so much fun I didn't want to leave. This place is the PERFECT combination of professionalism and friendliness. It was an awesome experience! My hair looks great!\r Thanks to everyone there and keep up the good work. more

I was very happy when I found a Groupon that was only $70 for a nice haircut, style and full highlights. It was very cost effective and my hair looks amazing. I called on a Tuesday and had an appointment set up the very next week. They even had later appointment times for after-work clients. When I got there I was very impressed with the overall look of the salon. Anne-Marie was very professional and friendly. The initial consultation before the hightlights and cut made me feel very secure in her abilities. I liked how supportive she was of the decisions I made and very understanding and patient when I didn't understand something. When she was actually coloring and cutting my hair she was sure to keep up good conversation. She also educated me a lot about the products I was already using at home as well as recommending some new ones for me when I voiced some concerns about my hair. The light blonde highlights came out beautifully and they were very consistent throughout my hair. My cut was simple but the layers did wonders for my hair. Anne-Marie was wonderful. She treated me just like a regular client even though I had a Groupon. She said it was her opportunity to make a new client. The only complaint I have is about the Darrell Barrett Salon website. I would love if there was a specific price list per person because I would love to schedule another appointment with her but I don't know if I can afford it. Thanks for a great experience. more

I did a lot of research on local salons before booking an appointment at Darrell Barrett Salon. I had an amazing experience with Lindsey. I have been trying to grow my hair out, in addition, I get color every 5-6 weeks to cover my grey. Other salons have used too dark a color on me and I've not been pleased with the results. Lindsey spent at a lot of tims discussing all the options with me and also discussing what hairstyles would suite me best based on my face shape. Her knowledge put me at ease and the time she took discussing everything with me showed she really cared about the outcome. I was booked for a keratin treatment to help me manage the frizz during the grow-out phase but she also cut my hair without removing too much of the length, the results are much more flattering than any cut I've had in quite a long time. Lindsey is hard to book with but I can see why....she's great at what she does but it's totally worth it for me to maneuver my schedule around to continue to get my hair done by her. The salon is wonderful and Lindsey is top notch in her field!!! more

Disappointed 5/4/2012

I purchased a Groupon voucher a few months ago to use at the salon but had difficulty scheduling an appointment. After seeing what appointment times were available online, I called to schedule (since they request you call for a Groupon appt rather than schedule online). I was told that there were no appointments available when I was interested in scheduling. I asked about 4 or 5 different days over a period of about a week, but was told that there weren't any appointments, even though they showed numerous available when looking online. When I asked if this was because I was using a Groupon, the receptionist said yes and that it was because they had to keep appointments open for their regular clients. I find this unacceptable...aren't Groupons supposed to be a way of getting new clients?! Apparently their Groupon clients aren't as important as other clients. I will say that the receptionist was very nice and polite on the phone, but I think their policy of restricting appointments so much is unfair. When numerous appointments are available and the client is being flexible over a period of a week, why should a business be so restrictive? more

Very Happy Customer! 1/4/2012

I just had the most wonderful experience at the Darrall Barrett Salon. I recently had my hair cut at another local place a couple of weeks ago, and I just wasn't happy with the results. After finding numerous good reviews about the Darrell Barrett Salon, I thought, why not? I couldn't be any more unhappy with my hair anyway, so why not take the chance and see if I can get something that i can live with. I took advantage of being able to book my appointment online and was able to get in pretty quickly. Ryan is who I ended up with, I gotta say, I love this guy! He was sympathetic and sweet and really listened to what I said about what I wanted. The result is the hair cut that I had wanted all along. I feel great and look even better. I paid less at this salon than I did at the one I went to before and am so satisfied with the results. I'm definitely a loyal customer now and I'll be going to see Ryan for a long time to come! Ryan, if you ever read this, THANK YOU!! more

Best haircut I had in a while! 8/4/2011

I have spent most of my life in Europe and have been spoiled with top of the line hair designers. Moving to the US, I've had my share of bad haircuts and untrained staff. Over time, I've learned what to look for in a stylist, and Darrell Barrett meets all my criteria - he is excellent and I strongly recommend him to anyone who wants a great cut. Besides the fact that he is up to date on all the cutting-edge techniques for hair cutting and coloring (he also teaches all over the world and has worked with my favorite hair stylist - Nick Arrojo), he is very personable and LISTENS to what his clients want. He was able to not just save me from a terrible haircut I got at Beebeautiful (in Hunt Valley) but also gave me the best haircut I had in the US so far - no joke. Ever since, I had many friends ask me who does my hair and I sent them ALL to him. All in all, great salon, great stylist and I am already planning my next visit. more

Not your average stylist... 3/14/2011

It has been difficult to acheive the color I want since my hair is so dark. I have been to numerous stylists for highlights and color and been disapointed everytime. Darrell is the only stylist that can color my hair just how I want it. I recommend him to everyone. more

Baltimore's Best Hair Salon 7/30/2010

Darrell is very knowledgeable and creative and Jasmen is the Best eyelash extensionist in Baltimore! I love not having to put on eyeliner anymore! Thanks Jasmen! I highly reccomend everyone to check her out! Pros: Very Clean, and they do amazing work! Cons: None that I can think of! more

Incredible Salon 6/1/2010

The Salon itself is upscale. Brittany did a phenomenal job coloring and cutting my hair. She listened to what I wanted and followed through beautifully. Jasmen did an outstanding job on my eyelash extensions! I couldn't be happier. I got the extensions about 5 weeks ago and they are still beautiful. more

Darrell and Brittnay listen! yeah! \r \r good location. \r \r Good suggestions on styles.\r \r great colorist.\r \r If you have long hair are trying to get your hair to grow more, and your stylist lops off too much everytime you get your hair cut. The outside may look small and not inviting, however, it is a wonderful salon filled with modern decor. It is much larger on the inside than you would imagine. The staff are friendly. It is just a comfortable place to be! Pros: friendly staff, great decor more

Great new hair salon 4/30/2010

I have been going to Darrell for 12 years, long before he owned his salon. Before going to Darrell I had curly frizzy hair. He did a chemical relaxer on it for years, and now I use a Keratin treatment that I absolutely love. It's expensive but I find it essential. I finally love my hair! Darrell really knows what is good for my hair, and I will not let anyone else touch it. Pros: He knows hair and what to do with it. Cons: a little pricy more

A salon is only as good as the stylist who cuts and colors your hair. Darrell Barrett has cut and colored my hair for many years and the fact that he owns his own salon now is just icing on the cake.
