All reviews seem positive

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/11/2013

This Deborah Daquila, owner of Daquila Hair Color Studio. This seems to be the only way with Citysearch to respond to reviews. My response to Eunice's review is simply when you have black, red, and black hair it is not possible to leave in 1 or two appointments with brown hair and beige highlights. It seemed impossible to communicate that. With Kathy K..there is too much to address as this review is insulting professionally and personally. Professionally there is a protocol established by me for new clients. The first question is ""What do you like about what you already have and what do you dislike."" The only thing this reviewer liked was her cut. There was several inches of her natural brown hair, followed by a copper band, followed by several inches of gold hair with light highlights going through it. That hair is now referred to as ""beautiful honey blond hair."" I spent several hours trying to fix as much as possible in one appointment even though she had booked for a ""color touch up."" We get an inordinate amount of corrective colors in my salon because of our reputation for quality. Going forward we will not only continue with an established consultation protocol but have created a form that puts in writing what was discussed during the consultation that has to be signed. For the personal attack I leave it to you to read all of my other reviews on sites...We were insulted, bullied and threatened by this client for work done by other salons. more

RUN!! DONT walk AWAY from this hole in the wall!! \r \r \r Deborah RUINED my beautiful honey blonde hair with BLEACH...\r REFUSED to fix the mess or refund the 200 dollars. YELLED AT ME ON THE PHONE LIKE I WAS A CHILD WHEN I ASKED HER TO EITHER FIX THE COLOR OR PAY ME BACK.\r I NOW have to pay a real professional to correct the mess this ignorant TABATHA wannabe did to my hair. Place is a DUMP...dog crap on floor. Filthy- SHE talked about how she hated her employees who by the way she said some horrible things about to me and also her customers as they so often lv extremely unhappy. Now you know why the place is always empty.\r Chances are any positive reviews you see here are from Deborah herself. She told me she reads her reviews all the time. more

No more bad hair days! 6/5/2013

I'm a long time client of the studio, and love the transformation in my hair from pre-Daquila days. I recently referred 2 friends based on their request for the name of my salon, and was thrilled to hear both getting rave reviews on their hair in my presence! I love the people and the place! more

I have never had my hair done in Pittsburgh and saw that Daquila had wonderful reviews so thought this would be a great place. I scheduled a cut, color and highlights. Not only did I have to wait 45 minutes to be seen, but she also did a terrible job at understanding what I wanted. To make it easy, I brought in multiple pictures and thoroughly explained what I was looking for. After being there for three hours, I left with hair that looked practically the same when I came in as if nothing had been done, in addition my roots weren't even touched. She had me come in two weeks later to rectify her (lack of) work and ended up giving me my money back. She explained that she never colored my hair and just did a full head of highlights (that you couldn't even see). Talk about, MAJOR communication issues between the appointment I requested, the pictures I showed her and the final product. So upset with the salon and my experience. I would never recommend this place or come back again. more

I adore Daquila Hair Color Studio! I've been coming here for years. I began with Danielle Daquila, and have been going to Deborah Daquila for about two years now. This is the first salon I've ever been to that has known how to deal with my baby fine, difficult-to-style hair. At most other places I've been, I walked out with a haircut that turned my hair into a big frizzball or left it limp with odd sections poking up. Styling it was a nightmare. However, Deborah has trained my hair so that it looks like I've spent time styling it even when I simply wash and walk in the morning. I honestly can say that I've never been happier with my haircut and style. \r The stylists at Daquila really look at a person's whole head and design a haircut that works with the hair texture and color. Deborah also uses balyage highlights that look completely natural, so they grow out nicely. If you're looking for hair color that looks like you've tried to color you're hair, this is not the kind of hair color you're going to get at Daquila. If you want hair color that looks completely natural and fits perfectly with your facial coloring and hair, then this is the salon to go to. It's expensive, but honestly worth every single cent.\r Deborah is constantly training her technicians, and it is fascinating to be a head model when she brings in guest stylists for training sessions. The technicians discuss your hair and what's happening during the session. There's a whole science behind the artistry here! While all of the stylists are at different levels in learning that science, Deborah is fantastic about ensuring everyone in her salon has ample learning opportunities to keep their skills at the highest level. \r Finally, this salon is just a soothing place. There's no loud music, and the clientele is select. So the entire mood is like being around girlfriends having a relaxing time. Perhaps most importantly to the atmosphere, Deborah brings in her adorable pack of pooches, who keep everyone company. Deborah is an active animal rescuer, and she has fundraisers and an on-going blanket collection to support her puppies. This is a woman with a big heart, and it shows in everything she does, from the way she treats her clients and employees, to the way she takes care of older dogs that no one else wants. more

I love Daquila! After trying many salons, haircuts at Daquila are the best I have ever had. I went to school in Pgh and had my hair cut at Daquila for two years; afterwards I moved 2.5 hours away, but I still can only bring myself to get haircuts here. Deborah does an amazing job with my hair, the salon is extremely relaxing, and the staff is truly polite (not always true for a lot of salons). It has great natural light, and a nice location next to Paris 66, where I love picking up macarons afterward. Plus, there are usually two beautifully groomed cocker-spaniels lounging around the salon. Who doesn't love puppies, macarons and good haircuts? more

This is my fourth appointment with Heather and she is fantastic! On my first appointment she fixed a botched ombré (from another salon) . My very dark curly hair is finally getting healthy again. Now I'm in her chair again for my first ballyage. Very exciting! I love coming to Daquila. It is a very nice, mellow experience with the friendliest staff ever. As I sit with my color on, there are adorable doggies curled up at my feet. It's so clean here that my allergies don't even bother me. Last time I was here, heather gave me a fantastic curly cut. I'm constantly battling my crazy curly locks and my hair has looked south better since I started coming here a few months ago. I highly recommend Heather for curly girls! more

I've been going to Heather for my highlights for two years now, and she is the ONLY person I allow to do them. As a licensed cosmetologist, I have a solid understanding of color, and I trust Heather implicitly. She is aggressive about continuing her education, and her technique is fluid, confident, natural, and expert. I've chosen her as my colorist because she produces highlights which are amazingly natural in color and placement. I will never use foils in my hair again, despite the fact that I was taught that technique. Heather also provides an experience that is enjoyable. Disinterested in gossip and unprofessionalism, she is takes great pride in her craft and treats her clients with a pleasant respect that facilitates accurate results in a timely manner. I recommend her without reservation. more

I first learned about Daquila when I was looking for a salon to correct my dyed black hair (I went to a beauty school to save a few bucks). I met Deborah that first visit and she was able to correct the color with no ill effects. From then on I have been going to Heather (it has by been over a year now). Even though I am young ;) my natural hair is white In the past, my hair has ended up looking striped because my hair absorbs color strangely. Heather has managed to keep my hair looking amazing! She knows what works with my hair type and my coloring and she is super nice too! I can't imagine going to anyone else!!! Highly recommended is an understatement! more

I just moved to Pittsburgh and was in desperate need of a new hair salon. My hair is naturally a light ash brown and I've kept it a dark, dark brown (almost black) for the last two years, so my goal was to take it back closer to my natural color. Knowing this would be no easy task (since it would involve stripping the dark color out and approximating my natural color), I Googled tons of different places before finally settling on Daquila. The overwhelmingly positive reviews blew me away and led me to their doors a few weeks ago. Not only did Heather successfully pull the black pigment from my hair, she colored it a beautiful warm caramel brown with natural blonde highlights that has consistently garnered compliments, even though its only been a few weeks since I dropped by. I was worried about possible damage due to the chemicals used during the color stripping, but Heather deep conditioned my hair and trimmed the ends so that the end result (haha, no pun intended) was not only healthy-looking and shiny, but also a perfect fit for my face structure and build. Heidi, another stylist, was also in the salon that day, and both were extremely friendly and accomodating, even willing to grab me a slice of pizza from the place next door while my color developed! The salon is in a fun and trendy area and makes use of lots of natural light beaming through a multitude of windows. Apparently the place used to be a day spa, and you can definitely tell! The environment is relaxing, welcoming and cozy and the stylists are friendly and the complete opposite of pretentious. As a graduate student, I was a little worried about the cost for a full day of corrective coloring and deep conditioning, but the total was far less than I expected. I received a 25% new client discount and was informed that next time I visit, I'll receive a 10% student discount. For the location and immaculate service, I really expected to empty my wallet, but the reality was that the prices were actually much less than I would have paid for similar services where I moved from (Alaska). Daquila Hair Color Studio is amazing and I will definitely be becoming a regular! High recommended to anyone that is looking for fantastic attitudes and service coupled with years of experience and expertise. more

I can't recommend Daquila Hair Color 6/5/2012

I can't recommend Daquila Hair Color Studio enough. Heather understood my hair and gave me the best haircut of my life. I left the salon with the kind of hair I thought I could only dream of having. more

Loved my highlights!!! The cut was great as well in a really relaxing atmosphere. My favorite place in the city! more

Fantastic! 2/16/2012

What a refreshing experience! After a couple of terrible recent experiences at other salons, I was beginning to lose hope that I would ever get a decent haircut/color ever again. I saw several positive reviews online for Daquila and figured I'd give it a try. So very thrilled that I did! I was scheduled with the owner Deborah for a cut and color. She is wonderful! So nice and really listened to my concerns. Also, very knowledgable and yet so easy to talk to. She spent a good amount of time on the consult so she could get a good idea of what I really wanted. What a change from some other salons. She worked her magic and both fixed my color issue and previous bad haircut. I was amazed at the result! My hair looked fabulous and she made it such a positive and relaxing experience. The salon is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. What a relief not having to deal with pretentiousness that permeates so many of the salons in the city. I can't wait to go back! I have found a new home for my hair. more

Best cut and smoother I ever had! 1/28/2012

Please do yourself a favor and check Deborah and her studio out! I have been struggling with curly frizzy hair for years and have always struggled growing it out long. After getting the Brazilian keratin treatment, my hair is silky smooth and much easier to style than before. I am looking forward to growing it out for once. If interested in a cut, Deborah is a true artist. She will give you the perfect cut for your face and fascinate you with her high fashion expertise. Thank you for a great experience Daquila! more

Money so well spent! 12/15/2011

I have been highlighting my hair for almost 15yrs and just now have I found a salon I know I can fully trust to have me smiling every time I leave an appt.. My first experience with Daquila and Bayalage began a year ago, after moving to the area from DC and trying a few not so great hair studios. Since then, Daquila has been my go to and has yet to give me a reason to look elsewhere. I truly would recommend them to any friend or family member (which I have). I see Deborah for my highlights and cuts. She does an amazing job and always sends me out feeling beautiful - so much so I purposely schedule my appointments to coincide with a night out. She is very personable, really listens to what you, the client, wants, and provides great advice if asked for. Definitely the best in Pittsburgh for Color and Cuts! more

Great Hair Cut & Color 12/13/2011

Today was my second trip to Daquila salon, and I left looking like a million (or at least I felt that way)! Best haircut and color by Heather. Absolutely love the cut, the color and the very pleasing atmosphere in the salon. more

Believe 12/8/2011

I came to Daquila on the recommendation of a friend who knew that I rarely pay much attention to my hair at all and even less to coloring, especially since I was not very satisfied with my stylist but wasn't really willing to waste time shopping around. But my experience at Daquila was just right for me. No fuss getting the appointment, great service and real communication between the staff and customers. Wonderful color and fabulous cut every time. BEST in the 'Burgh. more

Amazing Hair Color! 12/5/2011

If you want gorgeous highlights, then Daquila Studio is the place to go! On my first visit, Deborah knew exactly what I wanted and my hair came out even better than I expected. Deborah is a master of natural, flattering color. You can't go wrong with Heather, either. She gives great cuts that are easy to maintain. Everyone at the salon is extremely friendly and you will feel totally at ease and comfortable! more

Great balayage color! 11/28/2011

I chose Daquila because of the great reviews on citysearch and I'm so glad I did! Deborah is a brilliant colorist and her balayage technique gives me wonderful color with natural dimension. I've found appointments easy to make and the salon is very pleasant with lots of good restaurants nearby. The natural light in the studio is a real plus. The prices are reasonable and there are always coupons for a little extra incentive. A good find! more
