Small portions??? That's so NOT true!! 12/1/2010

Me and my boyfriend been going to this restaurant in the last 2 years and we always have to share because their portions are huge! Their foccacia and newly introduced onion bread is delicious! Lunch special for $19 is unbeatable and you must order their homemade cheesecake...Yummy!!!! I basically tried everything from the menu ...my favorite dish is the red snapper and my boyfriend loves the way they cook the pasta.. No question that it's our favorite restaurant AND the best thing is that they deliver, too! Make sure you make reservation for Fridays and Saturdays because the place is packed! more

small portions 3/10/2009

Had dinner here a few nights ago and it was very good! The portions are very small. But everything was fresh and tasted good. But everything I ordered tasted great! Service was friendly. Wine list was good! more

Avoid Delivery (Dine in Service is Bad too) 2/24/2009

Food is very inconsistent. Also, delivery is atrocious. After about 50 minutes of waiting, I called to check on my food. The hostess said, ""It's on it's way"". When I called back 30 minutes later, she changed her story to, ""It just left last time you called."" She said she would call the delivery guy and phone me back - of course not. So I asked to speak to the manager...RUDE. He said if I refused the food, he would never deliver to me again. Uh, how about just plain old, ""Sorry""?! Avoid delivery here. Overpriced too for the caliber of food. If you are in Murray Hill, Fagiolini is a better bet, though their delivery is very inconsistent too. But at least they are honest and apologetic when something goes wrong. Pros: One of a few Italian places. Cons: Not better Italian than a pizzeria. Service is terrible. more

AMAZING FOOD even Britney Spears enjoyed Coppola's 10/1/2008

I have to say, we had a GREAT time at Coppola's last night. Sitting right across from us was Britney Spears her group of friends and a film crew. Apparently its one of her favorite italian restaurants in the area. The entire experience was AMAZING from the FOOD to the Service To watching Britney eating pasta. I highly recommend Coppola's!!! Pros: food!! Cons: none! more

Very unimpressed 8/23/2008

While the decor is nice and the waitstaff friendly, the food leaves a lot to be desired. It literally came out within five minutes of ordering, and was definitely not freshly made. It tasted as if it had been sitting around for awhile and quickly heated up in the microwave. We ended up paying $20 each for a glorified TV dinner. It was very surprising, given the other reviews here, and the emphasis on homemade meals that the restaurant touts itself for. Their website menu is also very outdated with both meals and prices, and is thus very misleading. We were very disappointed and won't be returning again. Pros: nice decor Cons: overpriced food more

Best pasta I've had in a long time! 6/22/2008

Great Italian food and excellent, friendly service. The prices are reasonable for a midscale Italian restaurant in NYC, though certainly not cheap (I don't have a huge dining budget). I think the cheapest entree on the menu was $15 for a bowl of pasta, so I was a little bit skeptical about how a bowl of pasta with marinara sauce was worth $15. But the portions are huge, the pasta was perfectly done, the fresh mozzarella on top and the delicious blend of seasonings brought that bowl of pasta as close as possible to being worth $15. Even the bread they serve is excellent. The service was also impeccable, unobtrusive, and efficient, and my server was incredibly friendly in a very genuine way. I was also pretty impressed when I asked for the remainder of my pasta to go... they wrapped up not only my pasta, but some bread (each slice individually wrapped!), fresh grated cheese in a container, and even put in a plastic fork and knife, to-go menu, and business card. Nice! more

Great Overall Experience!! 3/31/2008

I live in the neighborhood and this is THEE best italian eatery around. The food is fantastic & so is the service. I came with five of my girlfriends and we were all more than pleased with our meals and our waiter who was very friendly & attentive. If you're a pasta lover, go for the Tortellini Daniela -- it's out of this world! I highly recommend this place & will continue to go back! Pros: Great Food, Great Service more

Good Food 2/26/2008

Great food, beautifull place. \r It was fun and my friends had a great time. the drinks was a lil price but for the place it is ok. Next time I will come early.\r more

Worst Management 12/31/2007

The food here was good but the management created a horrible dining experience. The server brought us different wine than we ordered and then tried to over charge us on the wine when the bill came. When we spoke to the general manager we were informed that they could ""charge us whatever they want"" regardless of what it said on the menu. Additionally, although we were with a large group with a large bill and the only people in the restaurant, the manager refused to let us split the bill on multiple credit cards after the waiter said it would not be a problem. We even heard the manager threaten to fire the waiter for splitting our bill. We looked forward to this being a great neighborhood place after reading other reviews, but after this experience we will never go back. Pros: Food is good Cons: Service and Management. Too expensive for what you get. more

Very good italian, strong menu and wine selection, iffy service & atmosphere 4/27/2007

This is my girlfriend's favorite restaurant in the world (in fact, she almost lives directly over it), and although I share her love for the food, I've never been able to fully climb on board with her undying devotion to this place. The food never disappoints, and it better not because, quite frankly, Italian it tough to screw up. That said, Coppola's does Italian right with authentic favorites and a great wine menu and dessert selection. My beef is with the less than stellar atmosphere and service -- the upstairs is a little old-world for my taste, and the servers are consistently aloof but amicable enough I suppose. I recommend asking for a table DOWNstairs the next time you visit. This is a new seating area, and I found it to be a much more pleasing experience to the eye. Also, be prepared to spend a little more $$ than you would for the same food a few blocks south. Pros: It's great Italian, what can I say? Also romantic! Cons: A little cold and aloof...try downstairs for a different feel. more

Food (B+) | Service (F) 4/16/2007

If you only care about the food, then Coppola's offers an interesting menu and decent wine selection by the glass or bottle. My entree of spicey calamari with linguini was flavorful, filling and enjoyable, though the pasta was a bit too soft. I remembered the bread basket to be quite good. And who writes about bread???\r \r Dessert? It looked good on the rolling dessert cart, but I wouldn't know how it tasted, as our waiter was so bad that he didn't even offer.\r \r If you want a pleasant dining experience, try elsewhere. It's a bit mind boggling, as the hostess was nice and the management was nice, but our waiter was so blatantly negligent and discriminatory, we waited on him more than he waited on us. As the ethnic minority party that night, we watched as our waiter had no problem socializing with the other guests and serving their orders promptly. Meanwhile, he barely remembered our wine order, and as any dining establishment knows you want to push out the drinks as early and as fast as possible - it's usually the biggest money maker. As soon as we finished our food, we tried to leave as soons as possible, though it took another 15 minutes to flag down our ""waiter.""\r \r I commend the chef, but condemn the waiter. It's 2007 - worry about the color of the money, not of the customer. Pros: Flavorful pasta Cons: HORRIBLE waiter more

Worst Host, Worst Service 12/11/2006

When we arrived at Coppola?s for dinner on Sunday night, we were told that there would be a 5 minute wait. So we decided to stay. We were then asked to move from the door to the inside waiting area. After 20 minutes, we were asked to move back towards the front door area again. When we told the host/manager that we had already been asked to move once we were told that perhaps we might like to consider moving out of the restaurant. He actually told us to leave. His exact words were ""I hear that the exit is also very pleasant."" There was no apology, no explanation for the comment. We were all in such shock. I have eaten in many New York restaurants and this is a first. There is a part of me that feels as if this happened because we were the only Non-Caucasian group in the restaurant. Thanks for reading and letting me get this off my chest. Cons: Rude Service more

Excellent Service, Fantastic Italian Food 8/28/2006

My boyfriend and I ate here after hearing about it from a number of friends. After finding the restaurant, we were seated in the front table right by the open windows, totally excluded from the entire restaurant. It was quite romantic, except for the fact that we were right by the door and the hostess table. We didn't mind as we were totally secluded from all other diners. My boyfriend started with the melon salad and enjoyed every bite. The melon was sweet and juicy and it mixed well with the strawberry sauce on the plate. The prosciutto was a little stringy, but once cleared of it, it was quite tender. I had a Cesear Salad which was big enough for two (or for me to eat and my boyfriend to finish). He had a dish that was only offered in limited quantities (can't remember the name but it was melt-in-your-mouth meatover thick noodles and a delicious gravy-type sauce). I had the Tortellini Daniela which was homemade cheese tortellini w/ a light pink sauce with peas, mushrooms and chicken. The chicken was a little dry, but the sauce was delicious and the pasta tasted freshly made. The price for what we got was very reasonable. We'll be sure to go back when in need of some good Italian. Pros: Service, Home-made Pasta Cons: Doing some renovation more

Good dining experience 8/10/2006

Came here for a dinner on a Wednesday evening. Can't complain about much. Food was good, reasonably priced, staff was friendly and the decor is nice. Beer is reasonably priced for a restaurant ($5 for a bottle of Heinken Light). There are a lot of nice places in this area and this one fits in well. Pros: Food/staff more

Yummy food 5/3/2006

I stumbled upon this place TWICE. The first time I found the place I LOVED it. The food, service, drinks...everything was excellent. I was very upset that I didnt take a business card to remember the place. Then another night I stumbled upon the place again, and AGAIN i had a wonderful dinning experience. Pros: food, service, decor more

I Love Coppola's 3/2/2006

I was there one Friday night with my Girlfriend let me tell you something that was the Best Italian Restaurant in the City, The service was Excellent, the food was great \r I really enjoyed \r Coppolas seeee You soon Pros: i Lovet, excellent, the Best more

Good Local Restaurant 2/19/2006

It was freezing last night and instead of going to an E. Village italian restaurant, waiting in the cold, we went down the block to Coppola's. What a pleasant night out. The staff was helpful, the food was very good and the ambiance was great. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce rich. The veal chop parm was by far the best. Enjoy. more

Fine food and good atmosphere 1/26/2006

We visit this spot on occasion to indulge in the rich foods and warm decor. We love the buttery clams and the cheese and tomato bruschetta (drenched in olive oil) to start. My boyfriend special orders the Penne ala Vodka topped with slow cooked steak meat. At $19 it is just divine. He loves it. I usually order something different every time I go. The staff is especially helpful and informative. The pizzas are very fine and make great leftovers. I've yet tried anything I didn't like there. Pros: Great food, Nice decor, Helpful staff Cons: Crowded seating more
