EXPENSIVE 6/18/2009

i called the Mazda parts department for a part i needed for my 2004 Mazda 3 The price they gave me was almost 60 dollars more than the oak park Mazda dealer. I asked why it cost soo much more for the same part they had no answer. the parts manager was very hostile and rude when i asked for some other prices and i felt very offended. and i will never go back to that dealer. dont recommend it to any one. also their service department's labor rate is 140 an hour. thats a sl#p in the face to those people who bought a mazda for cheap long term cost. remember everyone do your research and call around Pros: NOTHING Cons: VERY EXPENSIVE AND RUDE more

The Autobarn of Evanston, is the ""Four Seasons"" of VW Dealerships - where the customer comes first. 2/11/2009

I love my car and am now on my third VW. Only this time rather than leasing, I purchased. After shopping elsewhere, I was introduced to The Autobarn of Evanston where I bought my 2007 Passat. While they offered me better pricing, it was not only price that set Autobarn apart from its competitors. It was the welcoming attitude from their service team that made a deeper impression on me and I now understand why. \r \r I work for a luxury hotel brand where service and guest experience are never compromised. I share this with you because every time I visit Autobarn, I am greeted by someone who is happy to assist me and appreciative of my business. They have an energetic showroom without pomp and circumstance. The service department is efficient, clean, comfortable and welcoming unlike Fletcher Jones in Chicago, which is where I live and can be, at times, more convenient. Rather than telling you why you shouldn?t buy or lease from Fletcher Jones, I will share with you why I am a loyal customer of Autobarn.\r \r At Autobarn of Evanston, I enjoy visiting the dealer. Within minutes of pulling into their service department, I am greeted and my car is checked in - it?s because Autobarn understands their customer and values my business. It is quite evident who works there, as they are easily recognizable and eager to assist. In addition, the showroom is the same. Their sales people are friendly, relaxed and ready to answer any questions without making you feel attacked or ready to ?be sold?. If you are looking for exceptional value and customer service, The Autobarn of Evanston, is the Four Seasons of VW Dealerships - where the customer comes first. \r \r Whether you are buying or leasing a VW or need to have your car serviced or washed, I strongly encourage and recommend The Autobarn of Evanston. You will walk out with a big smile on your face and happy you chose them. I know I am.\r \r dlp2007\r Pros: Excellent Customer Service, Clean, Efficient, Prompt and Coureous Sales and Service Team Cons: dealer is not in ""my backyard"" however worth the 20 minute drive. more

Horrible customer service, long waits, lie to your face 2/5/2008

After thinking everything was settled, I drove 5 hours to sit and wait for another 4 hours while they finally STARTED the paperwork. We agreed to a price over the phone, only to have them try to charge me $3k over that amount once the paperwork was finalized. The car was never cleaned, gassed, or anything of the like when they handed over the keys. Now I'm waiting to hear back from them about the way they screwed up my registration paperwork and the fact that I've been driving my car unregistered for almost 2 months! (They transferred a plate from my trade-in and somehow tried to register my new car in a different state!) All I can say is that they are a bunch of liars, thieves, and cheats. I thought only back-lot used car salesmen were supposed to act like this...not a supposed established dealership. I'm just glad I live nowhere near this place and will never, ever need to interact with them again...at least once they figure out how to correct the situation with my registration. Pros: They have a few decent cars on the lot... Cons: Everything other than a somewhat decent selection... more

Worth the drive to Evanston to buy our new VW Passat 1/25/2008

My husband and I recently bought a new VW Passat. We do a ton of research and after leaving Jennings VW we decided to go to the Autobarn VW in Evanston. Not only did we get an invoice deal on our new Passat, but we also received a free 5 year interior warranty, 3 years of paint protection, and a VIP Service membership. I have to say that they made the entire process very simple...just send them an email with your vehicle needs and tell them you already went to Jennings. The rest of the process is easy from there. Pros: Very easy to negotiate with, freebies, etc Cons: drive to Evanston more

Reminds me of Snake Oil salesman... 11/19/2007

In the deal I made with the salesman, I was going to get $16000 for my trade-in. I signed a paper to that agreement and we shook hands on it. The dealership had originally offered me $14000, which was $3000 below KBB value. The car was in excellent shape and low miles. I had spent 5 hours at the dealership on a monday evening working the deal and by the time I went to sign papers after 9pm, I was exhausted and did not pay attention to the numbers and the finance guy did not explain them either. Instead I got a 30 minute lecture on extended warranties.\r When I got home that night, I noticed that the paperwork showed a $14000 trade-in. I thought it to be a mistake, so I called back the next morning. I ended up on the phone with a very rude sales manager who basically told me, tough. I had signed the paperwork.\r Long story short! They switched the #'s on me, because I had told the salesman, NO way was I going to trade in my Volvo for anything less than $16000. Lesson learned! Make sure you know what you are signing and study the #'s. My car will never see the inside of Autobarn VW again and Im making sure to tell everyone, just how deceitful this dealership is. Pros: You can never go wrong with a VW Cons: Lowball trade in values, rude managers, deceitful salesman. more

Great customer service, friendly staff 3/29/2007

I took my '88 Mazda there to get the window motor checked. I signed off on $70 to have the problem investigated. They found that the fix would be $875 - about half the value of my car! We laughed and agreed it couldn't happen - so they put the car back together and passed it through a free car wash - then waived the $70 charge! Unbelievable - now I'm not saying that they will give you all that for free - but it was a great service experience. Call and talk to Bob Coleman - and making an appointment definitely helps. Pros: Friendly, fast experience Cons: N/A more

horrible service 12/16/2003

This place has some of the worst service and smarmiest, slithery sales staff that I've ever experienced with a car dealership. Their repair service is unqualified and quite frankly not to be trusted. Please do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere and if you've purchased a car from the Autobarn do not have it serviced at their shop, find an independent mechanic instead. more
