awesome pizza, great place 6/29/2008

This hole in the wall pizza place is fantastic. The pizzas are the product of the owner's creativity and they are all delicious. The fig pizza and the the tarte flambe deserve special recognition: the flavors are out of this world and cooked to perfection. The owner and his wife, the only main workers in the restaurant, take special care to make sure your dining experience is as enjoyable as possible. We came with a group of four people and by the end of the night, the owner, Marty, had pulled up a chair, and we were all drinking together and enjoying the night. This is a great restaurant to bring a couple bottles of wine, relax, and enjoy some awesome pizza. It was a great dining experience. We will definitely be back. more

Sweetness Pizza Joint 6/12/2008

My roomates set up a small gathering for my birthday at Chickie's last night and it truly was a great time. Marty, chef and owner of ""the pig"" couldnt have been more helpful with everything and the food was terrific. Marty started the night off with calamari which I heard was amazing(i cant eat it as im allergic to shellfish) as were the prosciutto and mozzarella and ricotta rounds. He made pizzas for us that rival any pizza ive ever had. The steak pizza was very good as was the ""meat"" pie. more

Great Pizza, Superb Atmosphere 5/7/2008

This was one of the better pizza joints I've been to recently. Artisanal hand crafted pizzas using the best possible ingredients. Stopped by with a buddy and was really surprised. Has a real nice rustic ambiance with choice art decorating exposed brick walls. The owner and his wife put tremendous heart into the food and are really nice. Go here for some excellent gourmet pizza that is reasonably priced. And for now it is BYOB so with September Wines right next door this is a great place to meet with friends or on a date and drink some good wine. Pros: Quasi Outdoor seating if you sit up at the front near the huge french windows; Don't miss the Kona coffee to finish Cons: This is artisanal pizza so the don't expect a ultra quick turnaround for a pie like at a basic joint, have some of their excellent appetizers to tide you over more

Lovely Experience For My Birthday. 3/10/2008

I am a poor planner. I had a bunch of friends coming into town for my birthday last weekend and tried to make reservations for a BYO place in the city unsuccessfully all week (we wanted to bring some of our own wine to celebrate). Then I remembered Chickie Pig's and called Saturday - they took our reservation for 8 when I called Saturday afternoon with no problem - I don't think they knew they were absolute lifesavers! Service was great. My boyfriend and I went a few weeks ago and had a similiar experience. The owner (I think he is?) is really jolly and will make recommendations and ensure you love your food. I love this place. It's quickly becoming my favorite BYO in the L.E.S. over Eatpisode next door which is getting too crowded for its little space. :) Pros: Pizza, Friendly Atmosphere, Proximity to Amazing Bars! Cons: None more

Terrible atmosphere, below average food! 2/18/2008

The atmosphere is dismal, the pizza was OK but the pasta was terrible. Service was awful. My meal arrived before my friend's meal and I was already completely finished with my meal by the time her meal arrived. This place is not worth your time or money. There is NOTHING positive about this restaurant. Pros: Nothing. Cons: Everything. Terrible atmosphere, terrible service, below average food more

Charming Casual Gem 2/17/2008

For me, this place had all that i could want in a pizza joint: Pros: Portions, quality of food Cons: none really more

Great Pizza, Great People! 2/16/2008

This place has amazing pizzas! They are different, original and delicious. And not only that, but most importantly, the service is great and the owner is fantastic! He's the nicest person and he's increadibly passionate about his pizzas. My suggestion: don't even look at the menu and just hear him describe each pizza and how he makes it.. You'll want to order them all. I got a spicy virgin pizza with prosciutto and it was amazing. All the ingredients were fresh and it was perfectly made. It's a great place to come with friends, a few bottles of wine, and eat amazing pizzas. And don't forget to write your name on the wall before you leave! Pros: delicious food, very friendly service, great people more

Wonderful ambience, exquisite pizza!!!!!!!!! 2/14/2008

We spent Valentine's Day at this restaurant. The moment you walk through the door you can smell the light, fluffy dough that is the staple of every pizza, from the wonderful virgin pizza (the freshest tomato sauce and parmesan cheese), to the suprisingly delicious fig and gorgonzola cheese pizza. We were lucky enough to have the chef come over and talk about the menu, and you could see the thoughtfulness and care that laced each pizza creation. Hearing him speak was reminiscent of Laura Esquivel's ""Like Water for Chocolate"" where each dish absorbs the emotion of its creator, and each dish for this man was special, delicious not only due to the combination of ingredients, but to the quality of each ingredient. The fig jam that was in my pizza is home made with a balsamic vinegar reduction, and its mealy texture is the perfect complement to the warm and gooey gorgonzola cheese that melts in your mouth. We were the last ones to leave, and yet the owners insisted we stay a bit longer so that we could finish our bottle of wine (it is fortunately a BYOB) in the comfort of the warm and resplendent atmosphere. All in all, our experience couldn't have been more perfect, and we've already made a reservation to come back next week. Pros: The pizza is amazing, as well as the proscuitto ball appetizer! more

Are these people serious? 2/10/2008

I find it difficult to believe that all of these rave reviews are legit. I will concede that I have only had pizza here once, and it was delivered (and cold), so perhaps that affected the quality, but I have to say that it was so bad that I am unwilling to give it another try. Cons: bad pizza, silly name more

Best pizza ever 1/29/2008

Great place to eat with a bunch of friends. Service is just so amazing. Real friendly service. more

Redefines New York Pizza 11/4/2007

I visited this place on Saturday night with a group of 6 friends. It was refreshing to see the owner/chef of the restaurant put so much attention into each pizza. You'd think you were dining at your parent's house. It was impossible for any of us to name which pizza was our favorite as every single one was beyond delicious. The oval shaped pizzas were also a nice authentic touch. Pros: Brand new place, best pizza in the city more

The BEST in the L.E.S! 10/25/2007

I've been working on Ludlow for some time now and thank god this place opened! The greatest brick oven pizza that I've EVER had and the calamri is insane too. Some of the most original recipes and concoctions of pizzas that I never could have imagined. The staff is friendly, the service is great the price is right and everything is delicious. Ya gotta' love the BYOB aspect too. Get there! Pros: parking, location, service, etc... more

just perfect pizza. 10/13/2007

This place is a slice of pizza heaven... The owner/chef takes such care and pride in the pizza he offers that every last bite is full of love and flavor! Friendly, delicious and BYOB... and the most amazing crust i've had to date! more

Great new find 10/11/2007

Found this place on Citysearch not too long ago and I figured I would go one night for dinner. Honestly I wasn't expecting much, my girlfriend and I just wanted to try a new pizza place on LES. But we really loved it. The food was excellent, service was far beyond what you usually get at these smaller LES joints. We actually had a really good time here and will surely be back soon. The menu is so different and interesting! Everyone should give it a try Pros: Awesome menu, nice service, fun place more

New LES Pizza/Pasta find! 9/5/2007

I have gone to this new addition to the LES several time since they have opened. Well let me tell you..this place has improved each time. I love the Virgin Pie with peperoni, the calamari appetizer is excellent, the black olive , ricotta/ gorgonzola cheese pie (which is a special -not on the menu) is a true winner. The pesto with sausage really hits the spot . This place has a friendly atmosphere and relaxing decor. I will back soon! Pros: Easy Parking, BYOB more

Great Pizza, Fantastic Service!!! 8/31/2007

We eat out in the L.E.S all of the time so when I found this place on Citysearch and read all the great reviews about the pizza, I couldn't wait to try it. It's not easy to find good pizza in NYC; we're not like Chicago in that way. My boyfriend and I LOVED this place! We ordered the mild virgin pie with a side order of the sauteed spinach which was FANTASTIC! The pizza was fresh with a zesty tomato sauce that left me craving more. The owner, Marty, came to our table to make sure all was well and is very friendly and attentive. The only downside (because I'm a dessert junkie) was that they were out of their AMAZING (we've heard) homemade flan, but that will give us more reason to go back very soon. NIce atmosphere and excellent service. The young lady that took our order gave us the best suggestions on what to order. We wish you guys the best of luck and we'll be back in a few days for more pizza....and dessert! Pros: Great Pizza, Friendly Staff, Easy Parking more

Best Pizza in the L.E.S. 8/7/2007

Super fresh ingredients, friendly service, casual and comfortable atmosphere....what more could you want? Go to this place - sometimes they give dance lessons. Pros: Pizza Cons: Can't find one more

Best Pizza, Best Crust 8/4/2007

I loved this place it is an oasis in the Delancey Street area. The staff was friendly, the food was great. The crust was not too thick not to thin , just right. The pepperoni was so fresh I swore he went to Italy to get it. I brought my own wine , it is BYOBB, and it was on and popping. I loved the colors that were chosen for the decor, they were warm and inviting . As Ahnold woud say I'll be back!!!!! more

Fantastic grand opening! 7/31/2007

The food was just magnificant here!! The ambience set the mood and the pizza was out of this world. It was executed perfectly and the service was very friendly, and efficient. I would definitely come here again and I already planned on going there next week with a couple of friends! Good luck to the business. more
