An intimate dinner choice for Valentine's day 1/29/2010

If you're looking to have a romantic dinner, this restaurant is a great choice for those of you who'd like to share a special evening with a loved one. With the seasonal menu to the tasting menu, you will definitely find a dish that will please you with everything prepared with a contemporary French style; each plate is refined and you won't be disappointed. The vibe is charming and if you happen to sit near the windows, you'll have great views of the water. Once the sun sets, the candles come out and that sets the mood even more. On my last visit, I ended up going on a quiet night and it felt like I had the place to myself which was delightful but I can imagine that this place could get packed for special occasions like Vday. Since the overall place looks small, I bet that it could get really loud in there. Be warned. Pros: Intimate, good service Cons: Parking downtown can be challenging more

Make Everyday V-Day at Chez Shea 1/29/2010

""What's Seattle's most romantic restaurant?"" is the inevitable question with each year's arrival of Valentines Day. One place at the top of my list is Chez Shea. It's above the Pike Place vendors on the top floor of the Corner Market Building, which also houses another contender for a romantic place to eat: Matt's in the Market. Chez Shea, though, feels a bit more intimate. The service is attentive, and the quality of the food is consistently high. Pork belly and pork loin are personal favorites, and there's always a tasting menu for those seeking a well-rounded meal. For a most satisfying experience, try to get a table by the window, and time your arrival so that your dinner extends through the sunset, as the changing light in the room is part of the joy of dining in this restaurant. Pros: Intimate atmosphere is romantic Cons: Intimate atmosphere can be noisy more

One of the best meals 1/28/2010

I took my husband here for his birthday a few years ago because he had always wanted to try foie gras. We both had the wine tasting menu and although it was close to $200 it is still a meal that I remember as one of the best ever. Often, after paying $50 plus for meals - I think it wasn't really worth the money but this is not the case. Enjoy your time here - its worth every penny! Pros: Atmosphere, food that is worth the price more

Devinity on a plate! 7/19/2009

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here and I just want to do it all over again, and again! We had the Chef's tasting menu with seven courses: 1-Starting with oysters on the half shell. Now I am not usually into oysters- it's a texture thing- but these were delicious! half of them had a pink grapefruit compote and the other half had a pickled cucumber salad which was my fave. 2-Next was foie gras two ways, one in a smooth and flavorful pate form, the other seared to perfection-both atop crisp Brioche. 3-Then Chilled Vichyssoise, a potato and leek version that was smooth and delicious. The perfect palate cleanser! 4-Next was the Alaskan Halibut with controne Beans heirloom tomatoes and a basil based sauce. It was again a delightful dish. 5-Then came the tenderloin of Beef with demi glace, truffle butter, and silky mashed potatoes. This was our favorite course of all! The tenderloin was cooked perfectly rare/medium rare and melted on your tongue. The truffle butter and the handmade demi glace were perfection, and the potatoes were beaten so silky smooth...Chez Shea has created the ultimate meat and potatoes dish! 6-Next came a cheese trio with an exquisite goat Roquefort bleu cheese (my fave!), a Delice de Bourgogne which was creamy and very strong, then Petit Basque. Served with an apricot compote to cleanse the palate. 7-Finally was dessert which was a light and creamy panna cotta with fresh berries. Perfect for summer, very light and refreshing. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, the atmosphere romantic and comfortable, and the food an adventure for the senses. Pros: AMAZING food, attentive staff, wine list, and more Cons: pricey! more

Cozy restaurant, warm service, great food 11/25/2008

Since I'm relatively new to the area, I am looking for unique places that I can return to when the occasion warrants it. This place will stay on my list. It's a romantic spot tucked away in the most touristy area in Seattle -- right above Pike Place Market. If you're in town with your sigother, make reservations--which are all but mandatory due to the very limited seating -- and enjoy the experience. Pros: Hidden spot among the throngs of tourists, very intimate, great service Cons: Parking is always a problem around Pike Place Market, be aware of being seated next to a large table more

Romantic & great 10/27/2008

You can tell when a chef loves food and this one does! Setting was beautiful and the tasting course was amazing. Wish I had been there with someone other than a coworker. Next time. more

Most Romantic Spot in Seattle 10/15/2008

The food was some of the best I have had in a long time and was ever so carefully prepared. I had the duck leg and it was so delicious and tender. I always have the duck at every restaurant I go too and this by far s one of the best. The entire staff is so attentive from the moment they take your coat at the door to the last bottle of wine they cork for you. I would confidently say that Chez Shea is the most Romantic date spot in the whole area from the first date, to popping the question and your 50th anniversary. Enjoy and try the duck pate or duck leg!!! Pros: Everything Cons: Make sure you make a reservation. more

Memorable birthday meal with excellent service 4/30/2008

I have heard of Chez Shea for some time and was waiting for a special occasion to try it. Four of us went there for my birthday and tried the chef's tasting menu. We thought the food was well prepared and it was fun to try 8 different things. We were totally stuffed by the 5th dish and had a wonderful time. Our server was so kind and the place was not pretentious at all. Overall, it was expensvie about $500 for 4 people but worth the money and experience. more

I'll start off by saying outright that Chez Shea was simply fantastic! Pros: Great service, amazing food Cons: None I can think of - a truly great experience more

best beef tartar 2/16/2008

My partner and I like to eat out a lot, and this was one of the nicest places we've been to in quite some time. The service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. We weren't kept waiting at any point in the meal. They didn't make a show of themselves when they came to the table, but they weren't impersonal either. I prefer a waitperson who fills your water or brings you a napkin, and you never noticed it happened. First I had the amberjack ceviche,...wow. It was mouthwatering. The textures were nice too. Second was the Kobe Style Beef Tartar. It's the best I've ever had, and was surprised at the sensual nature of such a dish! A lot of restaurants in Seattle serve something they call a beef tartar, that's basically unseasoned raw ground beef. There is little or no effort put into the dish. Don't miss the tartar at Chez Shea! For the entree I felt like I didn't have enough beef yet, so I ordered the Kobe Beef Tenderloin with Hedge Hog & Black Trumpet Mushrooms, White Truffle Mashed Potatoes & Demi Glace. If they'd thrown a wedding dress on the tenderloin I would have fallen in love it was so perfect. When the waitress asked me how I like my steak done I was shy about asking for it to be between rare, and medium rare, which she noticed and said she also liked hers to be cooked to that in between place too. My partner loved her blacked cod. For dessert I had the Meyer Lemon Pavlova. I find many lemon desserts too sour and make my cheeks hurt like I'd been blowing up balloons. Not so in this case. My partner would describe the decor as 'french dive bar meets seattle'. I noticed that they were able to achive romantic lighting without it being too dark. You could see your meal and the other patrons. I can't wait to go back! more

My favorite French bistro in town... 12/28/2007

I have been to Chez Shea 4-5 times now and I have gotten excellent service and wonderful seasonal food cooked to perfection each time. I do admit their wine selection is a bit expensive but it is so worth the atmosphere, the experience, and the delicious food. Keep up the good work guys!! I am looking forward to my next time! Pros: Atmosphere, Excellent Service, Delicious Food more
