Best French Restaurant in Milwaukee 2/8/2011

I was pleasantly surprised the first time that I had the pleasure of dinning at Chez Jacques.\r The food, wine, live muisic, and service were excellent.\r It is a warm, romantic setting with wonderful decore, and art.\r I was especially pleased with the cleanlyness of everything,\r It was like being in Paris, without the attitude.\r It gives me great pleasure to recomend it to anyone planning a date, or special ocassion.\r Yours Truly,\r Don Elioff more

A wonderful place to take the family 2/2/2011

I took my family to Chez Jacques for a Christmas Dinner. The food was wonderful. I had the Boeuf Bourguignon, my wife had the Steak Frites and my daughter had a French version of Mac and cheese. The service was precise and polite. The atmosphere is extremely charming and intimate. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without hesitation. more

Awful- Never Again 7/2/2010

I have lived in Milwaukee my whole life. We eat out at least 2x per week if not more. I was looking for a new restaurant and stumbled upon reviews of Chez Jacques. We read the good and the bad and decided to take our chances. Huge mistake. We got there and the doors to the place were wide open. Then we ordered appetizers. We tried the escargot which had absolutely no flavor and they had a special on mussels. Again no flavor and very small muscles. Wait staff--no just Jacques and another guy. My daughter ordered the cheese plate for her main course and that was good. Of course, I felt they should have said what the cheeses were. We then began to see fruit flies all around our food. They even went into our wine bottle. I ordered the Duck A'laorange. They had a duck confit as a special, but he said that the duck was not crispy and the Duck l:orange was. It was so bad; I had to send it back. it was fatty and greasy and had no flavor. If that was an orange sauce, they shipped it from france and it lost all flavor on the way. I told Jacques it was terrible. He asked me if I wanted to order something else. I decided to try the veal. The waiter then came back 10 minutes later and said the veal was no good to order something else. I ordered the Shrimp and Crab crepe. Now, remember this is not an inexpensive restaurant. they put imitation crab meat in the crepe and tiny shrimp. Again, it had no flavor. Made me wonder what they use in their crab cakes. Overall the meal was expensive and horrible. I would never go back and I can recommend at least 10 restaurants far superior to this one for the same price and in the same vicinity . I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.\r Pros: easy to get a reservation Cons: food, service, price, bugs more

Very Bad, Never Again 5/16/2010

I went on mother's day and to begin we have to wait few minutes for plates after the appetizers arrived. Asked our server to change the dirty glasses with water because it had something floating in it, the rice was cold, the medium well steaks we ordered arrived bleeding twice, because we request to cook more. No crème Brule available >( no manager to say a word about these issues and a huge bill ($190) for a horrible experience? and on to of that I emailed this place two times looking for the manager and of course no body ever got back to me. In conclusion, for a place who doesn't care about a thing I will recommend to keep your choices open ;) We are the customers and we deserve the best food and services for our money. more

Possibly the best food in Milwaukee 11/17/2008

Milwaukee to me was a culinary desert until I found this restaurant! Chez Jacques' food has the real European taste (and very tasty freshly baked bread!), and we LOVED it. But besides the food, I also recommend this restaurant for its excellent service. We had a small kid with us, and the people there (even the kitchen staff!) were really sweet to her. In the U.S., many businesses are afraid to do ""extra"" or give a ""kind gesture"" because of silly law suites and what not. Their restaurant staff there were so hospitable, they made us feel at home. We really enjoyed our visit there, and I would definitely be their regular. Pros: Great food and great service more

Best quiche in town. 1/9/2008

The restaurant had been recommended by our son several years ago. We went to their prior location, a block away and enjoyed it. Today my wife and I returned with six friends. I had an Olive Tapcriaue sandwich. Delicious! My wife and several others had their special of the day Quiche; others had a Croissant sandwich and Omelette. and one had their Onion Soup Gratinee. I heard no complaints whatsoever. Very nice decor; friendly service by employees and Jacque himself. Try it, you'll like it!\r more

Decent French Food 3/13/2005

One part french deli and one part bar. Menu items are comfort foods. Eating here just makes you happy. Decent wine selection. Make sure to eat in the bar area and not the back room or you lose the whole effect. Pros: Atmosphere, Friendly Staff more
