Great Happy Hour! 3/16/2010

i love the happy hour at casuelita's! i've been there often, my boyfriend more often than i and it's somewhere we'll be going to back to again and again as their happy hour is awesome and the staff so friendly. i can fill up on just a couple of the happy hour dishes as they're really a full meal nicely discounted. i also love that it's happy hour until 7pm. most places stop at 6. Pros: you can fill up on it! more

One of the best bars in Belltown, but get there early!!! 6/2/2009

I LOVE this place. It is my favorite bar in Belltown. I have been going here for many years for happy hour. The owners are wonderful as is the entire staff. They pour a stiff drink, which is something I really like, and the food is good. The food can be a bit inconsistent in that I rarely get it prepared the same exact way twice, but it is kind of fun to be surprised :) The bar area downstairs gets REALLY crowded, so get there early (Happy Hour starts at 4:00 PM). They used to allow drinking folks to sit upstairs, but no longer allow that, which stinks in that it gets so damn crowded in the bar!!! I hate to wait for my first drink during happy hour and I never have to worry about that at Casuelita's, as when the bartenders see me coming down the block, they have my drink waiting by the time I walk in the door. Service just doesn't get better than that. I just have to be careful not to walk past them if I am going somewhere else :) Pros: Excellent service, stiff drinks at good prices, good food Cons: Bar is too small, no happy hour in the dining area more

Amazing food , great drinks! 3/9/2009

Awesome food , large portion sizes , great presentation , fabulous Rum bar , make reservations. That being said , I was looking for a place that was within my budget. And this place fit the bill! The first time I went I was overwhelmed by the amount of food you get for the price. The waiters/waitresses were attentive without being obnoxious. I go there quite often with friends and on dates. It's a great place to have dinner before heading over to Jazz Alley. I have only had one bad experience where the wait staff were virtually none existant. That evening just to get a drink we had to practically get out of our seats to ask for one. And the place was not busy....so go figure. I do recommend reservations on Friday or Saturday night if you are going to be having dinner. And the Rum bar is small and gets packed fairly early , so be prepared for standing room only. Needless to say it's one of my favorite places in Belltown. Pros: Great food and drinks Cons: No parking more

Awesome food, amazing drinks, very good service 1/6/2009

I have been to Casualita's on Vine street a dozen times and they are my preferred restaurant. They have a phenominal Happy Hour, great entrees, and a innovative drink menu! I found their staff personable and friendly. I'm suprised to hear otherwise... Pros: Excellent food, drinks, and good service, happy hour is 4-7 and after 10pm Cons: small bar, happy their only. more

Great food, horrible customer service. 10/11/2008

I have been going to casuelitas for the last yr and half, I must confess they have really good food and the worst customer service i have ever encounted n my life. Many times i and my friends have been ignored, messed up order by the server yet they have attitude problem. I have sat at the bar for almost an hr and didn't even get a drink that was ordered. My general conclusion or recommendation is intended for RICHIE and JACKIE to adhere to, look for servers with great or excellent customer service skills and experience. Pros: Great food Cons: Horrible customer service more

some of the best food and worst customer service i have ever had. 7/25/2008

I have been to Casuelitas 9 times. The food is what keeps me coming back. In every single experience there the exact same thing happens. We walk in, wait about ten minutes while getting completley ignored. Ask 1-4 employees if there is any tables available to which they all reply with a look of confusion and say they'll check. Finally get sat, then continue to be ignored while server after server walks by us. About 20 minutes after that we get water and a promise to be right back. 20 minutes after that the server comes back to take our drink orders, 15 minutes after that our drinks arrive at which time we franticly order our food. Aaaand roughly 45-60 minutes after THAT our food arrives. And please, whatever you do, dont expect a re-fill for your water. When the food finally does arrive it is absolutely spectacular. Literally some of the best I have ever had. But for the love of god can i please just get a little service! I am VERY low maintenace when it comes to being served a drink or food but this place is just absurd. Bottom line, food great, service horrible. Pros: food Cons: service more

Amazing Food 4/20/2008

The food here is amazing! In response to other reviews, the food is worth any bad service that you might receive (although I have been there at lease a dozen times and never had a poor service experience). Plan ahead with a reservation (Someone commented that they called on Friday for a 7pm reservation that night??! Really? Not sure what restaurants they go to, but this is a cool spot that is getting more and more attention, not sure how you can be disgruntled about not getting in). If you have to wait, oh well, chill out, relax and enjoy some rum. Also, the ribs are a must have. They are unbelievable! Pros: Hidden spot, Food, Happy Hour more

Service is not so good, but the food is! 1/20/2008

I'll save you some time and say that out of 5 times that I have been there I have had good service 4 times. Not to be gender biased, but the waiters there are a far better group than waitresses. The girls that fill the water did well, but the main waitress was not so good. She forgot 2 of our items in a party of 4, and then had a serious attitude problem when inquired about the location of such food. It is true what they say about the service...they could give a sh@t! HOWEVER, the food is great! Just be prepared to sit and wait for a while and watch the seemingly lost waitress wander around and wonder to yourself ""what is she doing?"". Pros: Great food! Cons: Bad service and you leave smelling like you were cooking with the food! more

Casuelita's food is really good BUT please check your bill! 10/1/2007

I want to start out by saying that the food is really good. This has been one of, if not my favorite restaurant in Belltown & Seattle but our last two visits have made me want to post a review to warn future customers. The past two times we have eaten here we had six people at our table. We asked for seperate checks but were told by our server that she could not do that. As we came to find out the reason for her doing that is they have a policy of adding 18% gratuity to parties of 6 or more (the menu does not state that anywhere). We understand that restaurants add the gratuity with larger tables but we should know about the charge...our server deceitfully ""hid"" the charge without showing on our bill the gratuity charge. Since we did not know about the automatic gratuity for the past two visits in a row we tipped our server the 18% automatic gratuity PLUS about 20% on top of that...When we finally caught on to her game we brought it to the attention of the owners. They were pleasant but did not seem to be that alarmed by their employee stealing from us. When you own a company those you hire are a reflection of you...Our servers dishonesty has left a really bad taste in our mouth. If you decide to eat here please look over your bill to make sure you are not being taken advantage of by this dishonest server. Pros: Food, Ambience, Authentic Cons: Dishonest server, Bad Customer Service! more

Disappointed... 6/24/2007

I heard some great things about this restaurant so we called to make a reservation on Friday night. A lady answer the phone, and she said she would not be able to make a reservation unless its more than 5 people. I said "" We have four people and hoping to come around 7pm "" then that lady asked my last name and she said she would find us a table with no problem. more

great food for happy hour prices 4/15/2007

this place would have to be one of the greatest places in belltown. I would have to say they have great food. Especially for happy hour (my fav is the shrimp skewers). and their drinks are also pretty good. Pros: great food, great prices, great drinks, and also great service Cons: find a seat in the bar can be kinda hard since its small more

amazing hearty food 3/30/2007

I just went to the Judkins location of this restaurant and had an amazing meal! The waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful with their recommendations, but most of all the food was amazing! All the dinner entres come with a yummy and very fresh salad as well as coconut cornbread. I cannot rave enough about the cornbread! The j erk chicken I got came with rice with beans in it as well as mustard greens. Everything was delicious beyond belief! The ginger beer is just like I remember it from living abroad, and the j erk spices were as authentic as it gets. For dessert our server steared us towards the haitian bread pudding, and, full as we are, my friend and I devoured every single bite of it! This restaurant is going down as one of my new favorites in Seattle, and I highly recommend anyone try it out! more

Casualitas - Yum, Fun and more! 3/23/2007

You walk into this great place with all of your senses immediately filled with elation in knowing that you are about to experience something great! Starting with happy from 4-7pm daily. They have 2$ wells and beer. They also feature and 3,4, and 5$ food menu. Papas Fritas are my absolute favorite. They have pulled chicken, the greatest fritters which you can get in a variety of 'flavors'. A chicken sandwhich to die for as well as coconut prawns, yummy. Me and a friend go there for happy quite a bit and we usually get 4 different apps and 2 drink each and spend about 25 bucks. You cannot beat it!! Dinner is also great. My 2 favorites are the brazillian vatapa and the one dish i wish was always on the menu but is a special from time to time the seafood bouillabaisse. Their Gumbo is also excellent. You pretty cannot go wrong with the food choices there. Now, lets talk atmosphere. Bright orange stucco walls, with carribean art displayed everywhere. You really feel like you are somewhere in the carribean and its like a mini vacation right in your backyard! The bar is quant with stairs leading up to the main dining area. Everything about this place oozes carribean culture. The waitstaff are always happy, nice, and glad that you are there! Always dressed in all black and ready for to serve you. Yes the service can be a bit slow at times but when you are there with friends you don't seem to mind because you have greast drinks and the company of your party. I have also met a lot of people there and you always feel right at home. There is a rum list to die for. It goes on and on so go ahead and try them! All around, this place is great. So please come on down and enjoy yourself! Pros: Food, Spirits, Atmosphere Cons: Service can be slow more
