good experience 4/13/2006

I've only been to Caroline's once and that was because a friend of a friend was performing so I got in for free. Prior to my visit I've been told many good things about the place and about all the famous comedians that just show up at Caroline's. Sadly, when I was there, no one famous showed up. One of the comics was on NBC's "Last Comic Standing" because I remembered her from the show, but that was about the extent of it. Drinks were expensive, but I guess if you factor in that the tickets were free, it evens out. Overall it was a pleasurable experience. more

A Must for Comedy Lovers 3/10/2006

The best thing about Caroline's is that you have the option of seeing brand new talent or someone whose face is recognizable across the country. They offer a little bit of everything here. Sure, the snacks & drinks can be a bit pricey, but you are in Times Square - everything has a mark-up. I have had more than a few good laughs at shows here (it helps that I have seen friends rise from the new comic night to headliner position...it makes me believe in the power of Caroline's). more

Way too expensive! 10/6/2005

Yes, it's true. Lots of comedians got their start here, and even well established comedians come back to showcase their new material. But it's really expensive to have the luxery of witnessing this! Wow! Anyway, it's in a fun area, so it's something to do if you're not successful at scoring some Broadway show tickets. It will not be a waste of your time, this is for sure, but you may not be left with too much money in your wallet. more

The top comedy club in NYC 9/22/2005

Most comedy clubs in New York are showcases, offering an array of comedians--usually pretty good to excellent--doing sets that last ten to 20 minutes. Caroline's is more like the clubs around the country, and it generally offers the opener/MC who does 15-20 minutes, the middle act who does 25-30 minutes, and the headline, who does 45-60 minutes. In other words, Caroline's draws for the specific act, not for the commodity of 'comedy.' So this is where you see people like Paul Mooney or Richard Belzer or any number of national headliners. The place is well run and the seating cozy but not claustrophobic. It's not cheap, but it can be, with the right act, a good night out. Keep in mind that the Monday New Talent show is just that: new talent, which means the audience is mostly their friends/relatives. The new talent is often reasonably good, but obviously not weekend level. more

would you pay this much 8/21/2005

I'd say that the content is better than the cover here. I've been to Caroline's a few times and I'll tell you, you're only there for your favorite comedian. I've seen Artie Lange and Nick DiPaolo here and they absolutely lit up the whole place. It's a little over priced and I'd rather go somewhere like the Comedy Cellar on a no name night but if you want to see the big stars, this is where you go more

Caroline's on Broadway 8/20/2005

One of the top comedy venues in the city, Caroline's is home to the long-running "Caroline's Comedy Hour" on the Arts & Entertainment cable TV network. Originally opened as a small cabaret in Chelsea in 1981, the club moved to South Street Seaport in 1987, then relocated to Times Square in 1991. On any given night you may witness a surprise appearance by names like Robin Williams, Robert Klein, Richard Belzer, Jerry Seinfeld or Dennis Miller. The 300 seat facility was the first of its genre to offer great entertainment combined with excellent food in a sophisticated upscale environment. more

a fun place to be 8/19/2005

Carolines, a great little established comedy club. Though it may be a bit cramped, you’ll soon forget that fact once the comedians appear. Many famous comedians have made their start here and im sure there will be many more. They usually host local talents but occasionally have big shot acts appear. They also have a talent night, however, I’m not sure which particular night that is. They serve food and beverages but don’t drink too much as their bathrooms aren’t very big nor clean and it’s usually very difficult leaving your seats. more

A bit cramped, but funny acts 8/19/2005

Caroline's on Broadway is a well-established Comedy Club that has been around for decades and has given a first break to many comics. Although the quarters are a bit cramped for the audience, and the food leaves much to be desired, the humor is often laugh-out-loud, fall-off-your-chair funny. Of course, the two drink minimum usually ensures that the audience is in a good mood. They showcase a nice variety of comics, from gross-out to ethnic to gay to old fashioned mom-is-always-a-safe-target humor. They also have evenings for new talent, which can be hit or miss. more
