Editorial review from Citysearch 11/25/2012

Bought Capogiro at Whole Foods right before Thanksgiving. First time I saw it offered there, and I was very pleased to see this product available close to where I live. Bought three favors - Cappucino, Pistacio and Dark Chocolate. It came packaged in flimsy paper cartons. Turned out that all three flavors were awful - they were bland and tasted just like the paper cartons smelled. Yuk!! Do yourself a favor and if you want this product, buy it from one of the Capogiro stores. The product sold at Whole Foods is gross. more

The best in the city!! and maybe even anywhere on this coast 10/24/2007

Amazing and creative. Every season brings in new flavors and new combinations to try out.\r I love their variety of local and imported products, especially mixing it with liquor.\r My absolute favorites are Cilantro/Lime, Mint/Pineapple, Mojito, Scurro chocolate and Grapefruit Campari.\r All other flavors are still just as amazing. Not so sure about the avocado,, but hey everyone has their special needs.\r My favorite Autumn combo is Acorn Squash and Chocolate/Ginger.\r My only wish is that if they will charge such high prices, I wish they could offer a frequent dining card or some sort of specials now and then.\r My wallet is hurting! Pros: Creative and soo delcious! Cons: Expensive, should offer something special for frequent customers more

Not amazing, but worth a trip 8/26/2007

The gelati are good, but not the best I've ever had. If you're looking for a decent scoop, try this place out, but don't expect to be blown away. Pros: good Cons: expensive for what it is more

Best Gelato in Philly! 8/9/2007

Sooo good. This stuff will make you fat! The flavors are plentiful with so many seasonal choices. I had Tirimusu and choc-banana mixed. Yes, it is pircey at $4.50 for a small; but well worth it. Very nice for an occasional treat! Pros: Gelato, Good service, free samples of flavors so you can try b/f you buy Cons: Price more

Great gelato made with local, seasonal ingredients 7/17/2007

I am no gelato connoisseur, and actually, this might have been my first experience with gelato. I think $5 for a small cup is well worth the delicate and creamy adventure that awaits once you take the first spooful of this delicious gelato. They do some traditional flavors like stracciatella very well, but also try something different like the ""lime with cilantro"" or the ""Rosemary Honey Goat's Milk"". All of the ingredients are locally grown and in season, made fresh every morning. The flavors change every day, so each trip offers something new. (On a side note, their sandwiches are decent, but overpriced. I still need to try the basil, tomato, mozzarella.) Pros: Fun time with friends and lots of interesting flavors Cons: Don't always have your favorites more

best gelato in the us 4/14/2007

searched for gelato ever since i went to italy, and this is the closest...a true chocoholic i always get the dark chocolate...but they let you try every flavor if you want...always the freshest ingredients make it very seasonal & delicious...friendly service...the first summer we discovered it we ate 3 pints a week...yes it's that good\r (right across from el vez...see our review there) more

If only heaven was a frozen treat served with tiny spoons 4/3/2007

We have been here a few times now and evry time we take someone new who then becomes a die hard convert. My Cousin in law is now driving in regularly from Jersey just to get a small cup I have a feeling she wont be a size 4 very long.\r The flavors are far from standard, thank god, Its the freshest stuff I have had in years. A wide range of italian standards pistacio, hazelnut....along side some modern gems cranberry-pear. bloodorange,\r and some epicurian delights like the rosemary basil or lemongrass. \r Pints to go are a great option but then how can you miss out on a cup coupled with a walk through Rittenhouse sq.?\r \r The candy they sell is quaint, olde timey and of excellent quality especially the caramel marshmellos. Pros: the best stuff on earth more

they let you sample which ever flavors interests you which means you can't go wrong here. 2/17/2007

Capigiro's is an excellent bonus to the neighborhood. I love variety and unique flavors. Once in a while i do come across some gelato that is a tad on the sweet side though, so i gave them a 9.5. Service is always very friendly and accomodating. Pros: great variety of flavorful gelato's and think outside the box flavors. more

Like no other 11/14/2006

You can't get flavors like this anywhere else in Philly....my personal favorite is the Mexican Chocolate...with a kick (chili pepper!)....you can ask for 2 different flavors in one cup...with ever changing flavors, the combinations are endless! more

Unique Flavors 10/25/2006

You won't find these flavors in your average freezer section! Capogiro serves amazing mixes of herbs and fruits in their creamiest incarnation: the gelato. Lemon basil and pineapple? Rosemary and goatmilk? Sure! And you'll be shocked at how good these are. However, if you prefer tamer flavors...their chocolate will knock your socks off too. Pros: unique flavors Cons: sparse seating more

Delicious but $$ 9/26/2006

I guess it is not so bad if you feel like dishing out $6 for a small cup...seriously...it's that much to eat the gelato. I've been there a few times and you do walk out there with an empty wallet. Expect to hand over a 10 dollar bill for you and your date. Pros: Great flavors Cons: $$ more

oh baby 9/20/2006

capogiro has changed my life. i love it. it's amazing. it's making me fat. what else can i say? the best, the best, simply the best. oooh, i'm getting hungry! more

lousy customer service 8/2/2006

The one on 20th street is closer to my apartment, and I was excited when it opened. I've been in a few times. The gelato is good, but the people behind the counter leave you with a bad taste. They roll their eyes, rush you to make up your mind, and are generally unpleasant. They have major attitude. I'll stick with Scoop de Ville. The lines may be longer, but the people behind the counter are helpful and friendly. Cons: unfriendly vibe, bad service more

Awesome!! 4/10/2006

Best gelato I've ever had ... they always have new flavors whenever I walk in, the service is friendly, and the gelato is light, fresh and delicious. Pros: Gelato, Variety, Ambiance more

I'm in the minority here... 8/5/2005

I know that Capogiro has received rave reviews from everyone and all of the critics but haven eaten there at least five times I find their gelato unimpressive. While I have not tried any of the more unusual flavors, their chocolate and hazelnut varieties were only fair while the torrone was not worth trying again, especially when compared to the other places I've had gelato. more

Gelato in Italy isn't this good 7/27/2004

Hands down the best gelato I have ever, ever tasted. I've had my share of artisanal gelato in Italy and it doesn't even begin to touch the gleato at capogiro. I took a group of customers to Sotto Varelli for dinner and suggested that instead of dessert, we could just stop at Capogiro on the way back to the hotel. The quick thinking waitress told us that Sotto served Capogiro gelato so we stayed and had three scoops each at Sotto. The gelato was so good that we still stopped at capogiro on the way back and each had FOUR scoops more! THe nectarine, black berry, fig, and mascarpone flavors were outstanding! more

Taste of Italy 6/29/2004

Thank God for Capogiro Gelato. I have been there many times since they opened last year and adore not only that the gelato is authentic (will make you wonder how they do it) but also consistently fresh. AMAZING flavor variety. The gelateria is a destination in and of itself - you feel like you have been transported to a swanky, NY meets Rome cafe. Highly recommended. Pros: Delicious, Fresh, Authentic more
