good food, dramatically uneven service 3/24/2008

This restaurant is a mystery to me. The food is good and the atmosphere cozy. We've eaten there about 4 or 5 times. On some visits, the staff is friendly and accommodating. On others cold, almost unfriendly and refusing any special requests.\r \r If that was just their policy, I'd accept it and either eat there or not but it seems as though it depends on the waiter you get. The same request that was willingly accepted on one visit is refused abruptly on the next visit.\r \r They also repeatedly clear the table, almost before you're finished.\r \r These are problems that can be taken care of from the top if anyone cares enough to do it. more

Rude Service, bland food 5/28/2007

I used to adore this restaurant, but was extremely put off by the rude service and tasteless food during my last visit. My parents took me to this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, and we were told that we would have to eat quickly because a large party was coming in two hours. The waiter mumbled the specials and literally threw our plates ate us. There was waitstaff around our table during the whole meal waiting to take our plates away. My grandmother's plate was taken away before she even finished her meal. The food was bland (especially the pasta) and hastily prepared. To top it off, we were made to feel unwelcome. As polite, paying customers, this is unacceptable. What an un-Italian experience!\r I will never go back to Canaletto, even though it is in my neighborhood and used to frequent this restaurant. more

Authentic Italian Food - Great Service 2/26/2007

Canaletto is rare gem of a resturant. Dining tables are tucked away in this cozy fine Italian resturant. The menu contains excellent choices and the specials are unique offerings. Be careful not to fill up on the excellent bread basket served with meat, cheese and an wonderful sauce. The atmosphere is slightly formal go along with the fine dining experience. It can be a bit crowded on a busy night and the volume of conversations can make it hard to hear. Never have I had a bad meal in over six years. Pros: Cusine is excellent, great specials Cons: Can be a bit crowded or noisy on busy nights more

Excellent Food, Cozy restaurant, Convenient to all. 11/19/2006

Dining at Canaletto this past Friday was really a treat. If you like truffles this place is awesome. My girlfriend had a salad with truffle oil dressing that was delicious. I ordered one of the specials - fettucini with truffles and it was excellent. Highly recommend dropping in at Canaletto's for a glass of wine and a nice lunch or dinner. Good wine, good food, good service....just a really great experience! Pros: Great food, good service, convienient more

Consistently Canaletto... 3/20/2004

The Upper East Side is filled with endless Northern Italian canteens: white table cloths, waiters-in-aprons-with-neckties-tucked-into-their-shirts and parmagean/salami comp plates. This place has all of this but avoids being tired or predictable. The manager (Brad) keeps a careful watch on everything and everyone. Judging from the high maintenance, repeat neighborhood clientele his efforts definitely succeed. Excellent, friendly bar, as well. Good for those who find its sister restaurant Primola too crowded and noisy. Pros: Near Bloomingdale's, Near muti-plexes, Great food more
