I had a watch that needed a new battery. I took it to Calvin's because it is near my son's house. They not only replaced the battery but also cleaned the band, which needed it, and returned it to me in sparkling condition. To top it off there was no charge. The service was exceptional. I went in to purchase a solitaire for my wife for our 35th wedding anniversary. I live in Houston and I wasted multiple trips going to local jewelry stores aimlessly looking through random diamonds and rings. By a recommendation I went to Calvin's and it was well worth the drive. None of the stores I went to in Houston were as friendly or as helpful as Calvin's. My saleswomen, Shelby, clearly explained diamond color and clarity gradings and showed me what to look for when picking out the perfect diamond and ring. Because I was trying to keep my girlfriend in the dark and had to drive in from out of town, Calvin's even worked around my schedule by letting me come in early so I could get to Austin and back to Houston without my girlfriend suspecting a thing. After visiting about 5 other jewelery stores & always leaving a little disappointed, my fiance and I were really happy with our experience at Calvin's. Our primary sales person, Katherine Rudd, was very knowledgeable about their vendors & all the options we'd have for customizing my wedding ring. Also, their selection was almost overwhelming--much wider variety of both men's & women's rings than others. We knew we wanted matching wedding bands, but were having a hard time finding one style that looked & felt good on both of us. We didn't want anything that looked too ordinary. She helped us by first finding the perfect ring for him, then finding something similar but lighter & more delicate for me, and in the process educated us about alternative metals. As I described a general picture of what I wanted, she helped us get clear on how we wanted my ring to look. When our first custom design came out to around $3,500 (way outside our budget), she immediately gave us an alternative idea, which was really creative & wouldn't have occurred to us to ask for: custom etching on the beveled edges--a nice alternative to diamond trim. In the end, the cost of my ring, complete with custom etching, came out to even less $ than his. Also, when Katherine was not in on a day I came in, another very helpful staff person (Shelley?) let me & look at all the different etching patterns through their magnifying glass, to make sure I got the one I liked the best. Within just a few days my ring came back from etching, and ended up costing about $200 LESS than originally estimated! Our rings look great together, and fit us both perfectly. My, soon to be, fiancee and I were out looking for a jewelry store that would work with us to design an amazing ring. We made it to Calvin's, our first stop, and met with Angelica. She showed us several rings and we told her what we were looking for. She contacted her designer and after a few tweaks of the design they nailed it. I had been looking at three main jewerly stores in the Austin area. Calvin's was recommended to me by a wholesaler who i bought my diamond. Ms. Rudd, who was on staff was helping me and new her product. Through her professionalism she found me the right mounting for my princess cut. We talk about stone security and finally she made me feel very comfortable in leaving my diamond with Calvin's. Ms. Rudd, also introduce me to the Calvin the owner and that was a plus. It is still great to find out we can depend on a small store personality to provide great service. I will refer customers to this jewerly store. My fiance bought an engagement ring from Calvin's months before he proposed, then it was months again before we went back in to look for wedding bands. Lindsay didn't recognize his face right away, but asked to look at my engagement ring and then right away remembered his name. I was so impressed! They really care about their rings and remembered who he was by looking at my ring more than 9 months after he bought it! All the salespeople are very nice and caring, with great suggestions and don't always push the most expensive jewelry. I'd recommend them to anyone.
