Editorial review from GrubHub 10/14/2013

My food arrived an hour and a half after I ordered it and was missing items. The kicker was when my total was fifteen dollars and I only had a twenty to pay him with assuming he could break it but no, he told me in the most hipster snotty way that "he doesnt carry change" like what? so he got a 5 dollar tip on my late food that really should have only cost 12 dollars because of the missing items. Not happy. more

great food, great service, great experience 4/5/2011

I'm a local who's been away from Providence for the last few years. The last time I went to Zog I went with a friend's mom for coffee and it was pretty bad, but I was on Wickenden this past weekend with a few friends and they all said that they had been in and that they loved it. The owner has done a lot of remodeling since the last time I had been there. The walls are painted, there are new signs, and the bathroom looks totally different. The girls behind the counter were all really really sweet and made conversation with us while we ordered our food. I got a falafel wrap and a soy cafe au lait and it was great. One of the girls behind the counter said she was vegan and made the hummus herself. Props to her. One of my friends got the biggest veggie omelet I've ever seen with a bagel and fruit, which I couldn't eat (vegan), but looked really good and my other friend had the curried chicken wrap, which she loved. I give a lot of credit to these girls. They're not working with a lot, it looks like they only had a couple griddle pans to work with, but they were putting out good food pretty quickly. the attitude and atmosphere in the cafe was great, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I can't wait to go back. more

worst all around 2/24/2009

I am too an ex employee, and i didnt get fired either so exemployee2008 , you can shut up. And I now work for a country club in CT, so as for me not finding a better job you can shut up about that too thanks. and if it isnt as bad as you say it is .. then why are so many other CUSTOMERS saying the same thing every where else. And I know someone in the Sanitation dept in RI who will shut that place down soon. Pros: nothing at all Cons: everything more

You shouldn't say bad things just because you were a bad employee 1/30/2009

I worked at Cafe Zog too. I think you shouldn't say these nasty things just because you couldn't work there. At least Julio hired you where others I think would never hire you. His mistake is that he hires a lot of people from the street without checking them properly. He doesn't require them to be experiences and then when they screw up and leave they keep saying bad things. Pros: Nice atmosphere, good food Cons: N/A more

don't go here. 12/23/2008

Bad reviews are coming from ex-employees NOT because we're ""mad"" because Julio Fonseca (owner of Zog and Geoff's Superlative Sandwiches) fired us, but because WE QUIT because it's nasty and he cheats us our rightful pay, and we only worked there in the first place because the economy is so bad we had no choice. Pros: bamboo in the back Cons: see review. DON'T SHOP HERE. more

I agree with the no stars thing... 3/17/2008

Ok so I am a former employee of cafe zog, the place is as horrible as everyone says. I have also worked in the food industry for a while and was as well VERY disgusted by the way everything was done. its not up to any sanitation standards. I would like to explain the service. There are only two or if we're lucky 3 people working behind the counter. And when there's a big rush were obviously not going to be happy since we dont even have really stoves to cook on, only two skillets. And whats wastes our time more is when customers go up to the counter and stand there without having looked at the menu prior to coming up to order and it backs up the line and gets so many people get angry. By the way don't come in at 10:30 thinking you will get full service, the owner keeps us open longer than we really need to, so we really just want to close and be out of there by 11, since he gets mad if we stay too late since he'd have to pay us for ""over time"". Pros: nothing really...maybe the music Cons: a lot of things more

I wish zero stars was an option 12/6/2007

Seriously folks, trust the reviews here. The food is really expensive and tastes like old gym socks. The actual restaurant is dank and seriously lacking in decor. It is full of flies and probably rodents too, based on how clean it is. It is pretty clear that none of the employees care about their job. I've seen moldy pies on display, and from BJ's no less. Oh and a secret? The espresso isn't even espresso, its just a dark roast coffee. Can you say RIP OFF?! Avoid this place at all costs unless you want to feel ripped off and physically ill. Seriously, the wait at ANY OTHER PLACE is soooo worth it if it means not eating here. Cons: EVERYTHING more

Don't waste your money...... 10/24/2007

First of all, let me start off by saying most of the employees that work there are unclean and Pros: When I left. Cons: The food/service/cleanliness more

EWWWWWW 9/14/2007

Okay, this place is NASTY!!! I've worked in the restaurant industry for many many years so I know good service, good food and good drinks when I see them. They don't make any of their own food and there are flies everywhere. The workers are rude and unfriendly and know nothing about the products. Pros: parking lot Cons: dirty, expensive, bad service more

Worst Customer Service In RI 4/29/2007

We walked into Cafe Zog and there was only one other table. We stood there and looked at the menu for about 10 minutes, then walked a few more feet and stood in front of the people taking orders and making food. We stood there for at least 20 minutes, without any greeting, or ""We will be with you in a moment"" or anything whatsoever. The two kids continued to talk about nothing, and not even look at us. Finally we walked out, very unsatisfied. then we went up the street to the Coffee Exchange, and got an immediate welcome, thankfully. Pros: Nothing, did not get to experience anythign because we were not served Cons: Horrible Customer Service more
