this cafe could be amazing. it's located right in the heart of a busy college and professional district of providence. it serves delicious sandwiches and salads. sadly, the prices are a bit on the high side. not a problem when you know you're getting what you're paying for. however, the pricing and/or portion sizes seem to fluctuate on a whim. for example, there's no option on the menu to add chicken to their classic salad, but it can be done...at about twice the cost to add chicken to the caesar salad. i'm not quite sure how that works, but the worker who was once friendly to me will now no longer look me in the eye since i've questioned that arbitrary pricing. they've also apparently decided to serve slices of their pound cake that are roughly half the size of what they originally sold....only for the same price! not fair to the customer, choklad. be prepared for a wait if you go in around noontime, though you can call your order in ahead of time. however, there is no system for separating pre-order customers from walk-ins, and i've already been cut in line by someone grabbing a muffin, who was simply too impatient to stand behind me while i waited for my call-in order. finally, this cafe could be great if it had a little more variety, a menu that had specials for each day perhaps, and i think they could draw a larger college-aged crowd if they were open later than 4pm. Pros: delicious gourmet sandwiches Cons: pricey, disorganized, inconsistent more

I had just flown in from Hot Texas. I was visiting RI for a week. On my first day, which was a chilling April morning , did i mention I had just flown in from Austin Tx where it was 85 degrees.I found myself on my own. I began searching for something good and healthy to eat. I ventured to this little cafe and had a big healthly sandwich. I notice the delectable pastries and candies on my right and started to pray for strength. The next day I return for sandwich or soup. Out of the corner of my left eye, I saw them. Proper and tidy they were. They were sitting together. There look to be about six of them sitting there, mocking me. They were quiet. After sneaking a look several times I thought I should just leave quickly. I headed for the door, but my legs started to feel strange, I felt a slight tingling in feet. Then I heard them call me, mock me, my legs felt funny, finally the yelling got louder, they refused to stop. It seem like time stood still, I am sure an hour must have past, well it had to have been at least a few minutes..well okay seconds, but i was bullied and finally force into submission. ... I offer my hand to this pastry. Not just any pastry. This as a croissant filled with rich, sweet and soft Chocolate. Did I say this was not just any choclate, but in a croissant. My gracious, holly superwoman, this was krytinite. I was powerless for the remainer of my trip. Shh!!.. don' t tell...On one day, I have two. It was no use, I was powerless. I can't talk about it anymore. more

Better-than-average sandwiches and delicious treats 2/24/2008

This beautiful, cozy cafe serves exceptional sandwiches, thanks to high-quality ingredients such as artisanal breads. The flavor combinations are creative and surprising, such as liver pate and crunchy bacon crumbs on brioche. The breakfast sandwiches are especially rich and tasty. There is always a good choice of baked goods--cookies, brownies, and scones (the three-cheese scone is a delicious savory alternative). In addition, they serve top-notch teas (Harney&Sons) and chocolates. more
