Horrible customer service. 11/18/2007

Granted it was a busy night but we waited for at least 30 minutes until our server came over to our table. We talked to several other employees, including the manager, asking as to when someone would be serving us but to no avail. So frustrating to be completely ignored. Once our server finally came by, she was not even apologetic and acted very cavalier as to us having to wait so long. Because of her attitude and the wait, we decided to go eat elsewhere as who knew how long it would take to actually get some food at that point. more

Great experience during Dine-O-Round 5/8/2007

Our reservation was at 8 PM and there were 6 other tables (of people eating). We were not required to join the ""private club"", even though we had drinks with our meal. We ordered the 3 course Dine-O-Round meal for $25. The salad appetizer had wonderful greens and a delicate dressing. The Onion soup was very high quality. The Salmon main course was cooked to perfection. The sauce was very original; this dish could NOT have been improved on. The Bento Box was original and I enjoyed it as a fun twist on the original Bento Boxes I often ate when I lived in Hawaii. Pros: Great food and service Cons: Only paid parking more

Never again 3/3/2007

We had seen the restaurant on Park City Television and it looked like a great place. We decided to check it out with some friends and were so dissapointed. We are used to Park City prices for pretty fair food but this place was definitely dead for a reason. Saturday at 7:00 at night we actually made a reservation but could have had the whole place to ourselves. The one positive thing I have to say is that the drinks were acceptable, except for the fact they served you about 1/3 a glass of wine, worse than typical for Utah. My husband and I ordered the fillet and were amazed at how poor quality it was. I could have bought a better $3 pre-packaged fake fillet at Albertsons. You would have thought it was a roast. The entire bottom of the steak, which was the size of a silver dollar, came off in a bizzare stringy mess! My husband wouldn't let me complain so that is why at 11:00 at night I'm writing this review so that other people don't waste their money. I'm not sure why there are quite a few positive reviews because we tried 3 appetizers and two entres between the four of us and none of it was that great. The lettuce cups had a bbq sauce which was absolutely bizarre for that kind of food. There is a reason this place is dead! The one nice thing, it was so dead you could have a nice conversation. If you're into that, spending quite a bit, and wondering what you were thinking go ahead and try it. My guess is that they'll be gone in 6 months and should be! Maybe they were stepping it up for valentines day and that is what all these positive reviews were for, the true evaluation: Dead on a Saturday night at 7:00!!!! That is all I should have to say, don't believe anything else you read!!! If its good, you'll have a reservation and still have to wait. We should have left after we walked in the door. more

Great atmosphere & super friendly service 2/15/2007

We ate here on Valentine's Day and ate from a special menu so I'm not sure how good this review will reflect the food. But I can say that the service was superb. We never had empty glasses and the courses came quickly one after each other. The food was pretty pricey because of a ""fixed Valentine's menu"" but I can't complain about the quality. Pros: Creative food dishes, Excellent service, Parking in nearby Gateway Cons: Pricey for the value more

Step Outside of Utah 12/6/2006

I reallly like this restaurant but it's on the pricey side for Utah. The apps are amazing...try the Tuna Tartar if it's available and the Kalua Pig Lettuce Wraps...mmmm with a tasty hoisan BBQ sauce. The main dishes are amazing but will set you back about $25. If we go for dinner we usually stop for a couple apps before a show at the Depot. Pros: Fantastic Food Cons: Pricey more

great asian food (not chinese) 10/18/2006

we thought this was really nice - nice interior, delicious roast duck and ribs. the mussels and clams in spicy thai soup was lovely. a nice new place. more

Another Great Meal In SLC 10/7/2006

My boyfriend and I continue to eat our way through Salt Lake, and I continue to be surprised (pleasantly so)by the quality of food I am finding in Utah. We went to Butterfly late on a Friday night, but never felt rushed, or that we were keeping the staff. Service was a bit casual, but the food was outstanding! The Shrimp Salad was absolutely beautiful, calamari was tasty but oddly presented (big bowl o' squid!) and the Crispy Stuffed Chicken Breast was a wonderful end to our evening. Also of note, the signature sangria/sake cocktail and the b-fly cosmo were both terrific beverages and the wine list was fairly priced with some interesting choices. Pros: Taste, value Cons: ambience (bar-like), not as romantic as we would have liked. more

Risky, unique and always incredible. 8/29/2006

The Butterfly cuisine is almost foreign to Utah. It is asian/pacific fusion with an american/california dining basis. The prices are moderate for the preparation and quality of food. The lemon salt chicken is incredibly tasty along with the awesome appetizer's; lettuce wraps, fresh spring rolls, and oyster shooters. They also have the most recommended Mojito drink in Utah. For a night of cocktails and appetizers or a wonderfully unique meal, Butterfly is highly recommended. Pros: Unique dining experience Cons: Location is unnoticed from the street. more

By Far the best resraunt in Salt Lake 8/13/2006

Butterfly all I can say is WOW. Service at the Butterfly is pic... Salt Lake Citys cosmopolitan dinning scene is butterfly. Pros: Romantic, amazing food and the service wow. Cons: that more people don't know about it more

This restaurant stinks! 7/23/2006

I don't know why anyone recommends this restaurant. I thought the food was terrible! The chef's philosophy seems to be that adding more salt makes everything taste better. And the staff is really stuck up. Or at least they come across that way because of how uptight they seem to be, even when they're attempting to be friendly to you. They might be forgiven for that, because I can't imagine they are making much money. When we ate there it was a ghost town. I like eating at restaurants where there are at least as many patrons as there are employees. Being one of the only two tables in that huge space makes you feel like you're eating in a morgue. That place is d-e-a-d. If you want to eat at the Gateway, do yourself a favor and go to the South end where you'll actually see other diners, and get better food anyway. Pros: Location Cons: Empty, salty, snobby more

A little piece of San Fran class in Salt Lake! 6/11/2006

It's not often that you get treated like a VIP on your first trip to a brand new restaurant, but I want to thank Butterfly giving my entire group an awesome night out! Friendly, beautiful and knowlegable staff are hard to find these days and Butterfly has them all (without the snobby attitude of other fine dining places). The dishes are perfectly proportioned with an eclectic asian flair - a truly unique experience in Salt Lake City - with excellent attention to presentation and unique flavor combinations. This restaurant is a must try (and it will probably become your new favorite too!) Pros: large group accommodations, super friendly staff Cons: parking (on nights when there isn't valet service) more

From Excitement to Dissapointment 5/27/2006

I spent last evening at the Butterfly with a few friends, excited to try something different from the usual. It was a nice evening, but I was extreemly disappointed with the attitude and service we recieved. The food was good but for the prices we paid, well, I have seen a whole lot better at other restaurants in Salt Lake. I try to get a feel for the dining options in town since it helps out with my line of work, but I definately won't be recomending the Butterfly to any of my customers any time soon. Simply put, there are other places I can go to get a great meal and an enjoyable evening on half the price with none of the attitude. Cons: Service, Value, Menu Selection more

The best new restaurant in Salt Lake City 3/31/2006

First off, I would like to thank Robert Soviero. Last night I went to dinner with friends at the Butterfly. I have been there before, and have been recomending and taking people since. I try something new every time we go. Last night I had a light dinner. The Cappuccino Mushroom Soup. But we all sampled each others food. Everything was great. Value is amazing for the quality. Most items between $15.00-$25.00. Then to top it all off. Robert a personal friend gave us tickets to the sold out James Blunt show. The concert was amazing. Live video mixing, superb sound quality. It was a great night. Call and make a reservation. Say hello to Robert Soviero. Catch one of the Headliners. You wont be disapointed more

It's About Time Salt Lake! 3/28/2006

Let's face it, we live in a city with limited dining scenes. Nondescript experiences with menus an atmospheres leaving us desperately unfullfilled. Until now. Butterfly, located in a perfect historical downtown depot setting, is truly a dining delight from start to finish. The appetizers are unique, starting with the sesame edamame, oyster shooters, lettuce wraps, mushroom capuccino and beyond. Plenty to begin with for sure, but don't go too big too fast, as the best is still ahead. The entree's are one of a kind for our fair city. Where else can you get an entire fish (appropriately named on the menu as Wholefish) served in it's entirety with enough flavor that your complete party will need and want to try. The environment, service, private membership status and bar lobby are all compliments to what will soon be the marquis and premier restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City. more

Am I really in Utah 3/27/2006

I travel between New York and San Francisco for work and survive by seeking out worthwhile resturants. I found Butterfly (Salt Lake) on a recent skiing trip to Utah and was blown away by the service and unbelievabe food. This place could be in any large metropolitan city and be amoung the best. You have to have the Whole fish with bok choy. more

Butterfly changes the scene 3/18/2006

This place has it all. the restaurant is beautifual to look at and the food is amazing. I love the Hangar Steak and the filet is the best I have had. Butterfly gives Salt Lake a big city feel without the big city attitude. you should try it as soon as you can! Pros: so romantic , good 4 groups , the food Cons: not open 4 breakfast more

Salt Lake has a great new restaurant! 3/14/2006

This is what we have been waiting for. Not only is butterfly a great restaurant by Salt Lake standards, it is great restaurant by any standard. I have been there about five times since i heard about it. The food is incredibly creative and well presented both on the plate and by the waiters. The wine list is made up of boutique wines some of which I had never heard of and was delighted to try. I really liked the portion sizes as well. sometimes i feel like restaurants try to make up for mediocre food by giving you a huge amount of it. The service is amazing and efficient. This place is great. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Pros: Great location, concerts upstairs, excellent food Cons: nobody knows about it more

A True Rip Off 2/28/2006

My girlfriend and I went for Valentines Day and never have we been so disappointed in a meal and on top of that we were literally robbed. It was a JOKE ... $75 a person and the four appetizers amounted to one mouthful each. THE SALAD CAME IN A SPOON ... YES! A SPOON! A Reese's Peanut Butter Cup was bigger and tastier than the chocolate mousse. Never will I ever allow myself to be so ripped off by going there again. Cons: MASSIVE PRICE, MINUSCULE SERVINGS, NOISE more

My new favorite SLC restaurant! 2/20/2006

I'm thrilled to see a new, hip restaurant come to SLC. I've been several times and I have not been disappointed. I love the look and feel; the food is great - the way the dishes are prepared are unique and delicious; and I can't say enough good about the service. The staff is as friendly and approachable as you want them to be. They're very attentive. Basically, this will be my favorite restaurant and favorite place to sit at the bar and have drinks and appetizers. Pros: Service, Ambience, Food Cons: Pricey more

LOVE IT! 2/19/2006

I'm so excited that Butterfly at the Depot is in SLC. We needed it! Great food, fun atmosphere and fabulous service!! I can't wait to go back. Thanks again Butterfly! more
