Best Pork Chop in the Land 2/24/2009

I had to write this review just to describe how amazing the porterhouse pork chop is. It is by far the best pork chop I have ever tasted. It taste like it was smoked with apple wood and has a very flavorful glaze. Not to mention that it was cooked to perfection. No overcooked pork here. It was also served with tasty mashed potatoes with some kind of delicious mustard sauce. You can not go to this restaurant without having this dish. Pros: Best pork chops, easy to get a table Cons: Parking, service seemes a bit slow more

Town Center secret 7/9/2007

This place is extremely under-rated because it's ""just "" a hotel resturant. The food was excellent...a friend of mine recommended it because a friend of his was actually staying at the hotel, tried it, and was really surprised. There are several good items on the menu (everything I've tried so far was good) but I like the chicken fried steak a lot. I've also gone in for drinks and the bar staff was extremely friendly. more

A Great Take on Comfort Food 1/16/2007

I was a little skeptical of this place because it's in a hotel. I can be a little snobby about restaurants, but I humored my mother and went. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. We were seated quickly and served a basket of bread to start off. My mother had the spinach salad and I ordered the mixed greens salad. The salads were so good, her spinach salad had goat cheese, pecans and balsamic dressing. The pecans were very interesting, sweet and crunchy and a slight hint of spiciness for a little kick. My mixed greens salad was also good, with a tangy citrus vinaigrette. Our entrees were amazing. My mom's chicken fried steak was as big as her head! The breading was actually light and the steak tender. I ordered the short ribs, thinking they were ribs you pick up and eat, but it was actually a large bone-in rib with mashed potatoes and braised vegetables. The meat was so tender, I didn't need a knife, it came right off the bone just using my fork. I was very impressed with this restaurant. The menu was mostly comfort food with a fine dining twist. A good, hearty, original alternative to the chain restaurants in Sugar Land. I was pleasantly surprised. more

Unbelievably bad service 2/16/2006

My experience at the burning pear this past Valentine's Day was horrible. Although the restaurant was nowhere near full --only about 70% of the tables were occupied-- the waitress took over 15 mins. to acknowledge us after we were seated. Over an hour and a half after being seated, we had no food, our water glasses had not been refilled, the waitress had not offered any explanation for the delay. When the food finally arrived, one of the entrees was incorrect. The other entree was cold. When we asked to speak to the manager, the waitress refused. We had to ask another employee to summon him. The manager offered a limp, noncomittal apology. We left the restaurant without so much as tasting the meal, despite his offer to comp it. I have no intention of ever returning. Incidentally, validated valet parking is not free, it is $4. Pros: PFChang's is nearby Cons: awful service, food wait time, condescending servers more

Amazing Menu 11/28/2005

Upon arrival, I noticed the absence of Grady Spears' name. He is no longer affiliated with the restaurant, but it had no bearing on the menu or quality. I ordered the tenderloin with a potato gratin, asparagus and tobasco hollandaise. The steak was amazing, my sister had the smoked pork chop which was smokey, tender and very flavorful. Be careful not fill up on appetizers! The jalapeno corn muffins and cumin crisp were really good. I had the spinach salad and my sister's mixed greens salad was excellent. The citrus vinaigrette dressing was so good, I'm disappointed I can't buy it bottled! Excellent overall. The menu is refreshingly unique, reasonably priced, and everything fresh and flavorful. Unlike most of the other chain restaurants that are popping up around First Colony, this one is a nice alternative when you want something original that hasn't been vacuum-sealed in a box. Pros: Unique, Private Dining, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Sweet addition to Sugar Land's dinning 8/2/2004

My wife and I went out for our anniversary sans children and we enjoyed what could be discribed as an festival of flavor; from the bread basket to port (after desert...;) we enjoyed every bite of every dish. I had the rubbed chop (you gotta have it) and the little lady had a Chicken Fried Steak (bigger than your head and twice as tender) and though the sides that came with the meals rocked we opted for the asparagus spears (a little bit of heaven). Service was great, atmosphere wonderful and many families and groups were accomidated though we felt very intimate at our table. Great place! Pros: Excellent food, Fast-friendly service, Free valet from hotel more
