Its a great concept, but the food is consistently poor. Have a beer and watch some good flicks but avoid the food. Pros: concept, good movies, beer Cons: terrible food

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/2/2012

walked in at 20 after 5, ordered nachos and popcorn (I hate beer). 30 minutes later, my half plate of nachos were done. after the movie I wanted to get a small bag of popcorn to go. Trying to get someone to wait on me took almost 5 minutes. Standing at the counter, money in hand. Do I need a set of double d's? The theater sound needs as much help. I couldn't hear 1/4 of wtf was being said in the movie. During the movie, either the power went out or something happened to the film, but for almost 5 minutes, we were without power. just emergency lights. The film started up as if nothing had happened. Nothing said, either. I haven't been here for a movie in years and now I won't be back for many more. I will come in for a drink and food, only because I know now they serve people at the bar better than their theater customers. more

Best Place to Catch a Flick and a Drink 5/19/2011

Brewvies Rocks. It's definitely my favorite place to catch a show. And instead of munching on overpriced redvines you can order from and extensive food menu. The staff is not only friendly and helpful, but they are also full of quirky film opinions and knowledge. Oh, did I mention they serve beer? more

Love this place!! 3/8/2011

This is one of my very favorite places to go in Salt Lake City. It is great! You get to watch a movie while eating & drinking. It has a fabulous atmosphere. You can even sit on a couch in the back of the theater if you want to. I would recommend that you go to Brewies. It really is a great place!! more

It's been awhile 2/1/2011

Well it has been awhile since I have been to brewvies, a couple of years at least. While the overall vibe now seems a little more generic than creative (employees now wear brewvies shirts); the staff is just as friendly and efficient as I remembered, I really enjoyed the beer I was recommended and the sweet potato fries were hot and crispy. I always liked how laid back and eccentric brewvies was, from the staff (some of which were heavily tattooed or had fascinating hairstyles) to the diverse clientele, everything about brewvies screamed you too can have a good time here! I hope I can get used to a more sterile brewvies, maybe the fact that they now serve liquor too is enough to distract from the bland atmosphere. more

This Place Sucks! 9/28/2010

If I could give it zero stars I would. This place needs to get its act together. Do they even know how to run a business? I mean how can you run out of ordinary shiz like coleslaw? One movie ended late so the next started late. Had to wait so long for our food that by the time it came there were no seats in the theater even though we'd already bought tickets! What the he!!? Waiter kept telling us not to worry, there's plenty of time. I look over and the f*ing line is out the door. So much for getting there 45 minutes early! Oh, and thanks for the advice to just wait... We go in the theatre, which was overrun by aging hippies, only to find a bunch of d0uhe bags savings seats like they were made of f*ing tofu. We left the food - sucked anyway - and then left altogether. What a great date night! Thanks for f*ing nothing! more

What Happened Brewvies? 7/9/2010

Used to be one of my favorite places, bar, movie theater or otherwise, but after several horrible experiences I have to say to stay away from Brewvies. It all comes down to customer service. Being organized and professional is part of customer service, Brewvies lacks both of these qualities. You order food for your movie, you come out of the theater to pick it up and you wait. And you wait. And you wait some more. Meanwhile, people who are not in a theater are being served and their drink orders are being filled. Eventually your food comes out cold and disgusting, to be fair it was never that good to begin with, but hey. All of this can be easily fixed, unfortunately Brewvies has a staff of rude, disrespectful people (speaking generally, of course) that are not fit to work at the DMV. Fire some people, work out your system like you did in the past. Pros: None at this time Cons: Poor Customer Service/Organization more

The headline says it all ;) Pros: bros more

I Love Brewvies 8/6/2009

Really great place to take the group. You can play pool before the movie and visit, then head into the movie when it's ready. A relaxed and happy place. Pros: Best Nacho Plate in Town Cons: Could use more movies, but you only have so much room. more

Movies & Heffenwisen 3/3/2009

This place rocks! They show the movies I want to see and they serve it up with beer. Where has it been all my life? Answer, In Salt Lake City. I would highly recommend seeing your next flick here. Pros: Good Movie, Good Beer, Little Shelf for Drinks! Cons: Seats aren't the most comfortable more

If you Drink you must support this place! 2/12/2009

A movie theater that let's you drink cold beer out of a glass mug! Sounds almost like a line from Pulp Fiction? The food is hot and is served as soon as it's availible with a numbering system displayed inside the theater (so you miss as little as the picture as possible). Great idea! The food is ok, but hey your not expecting La Caille or Takashi are you? Granted some revamping of the menu could replace some items that are almost impossible to eat in the dark, but did I mention they serve beer by the glass, litre and pitcher! \r \r This is a nobile if not sacred duty of all Utahans who don't wish to suffer another loss living behind the Zion curtain to patrionize and support this unique, independently owned and operated establishment.\r \r Being said, that it's not kid friendly, it is however a normal place for normal people! God Bless the owners who ever they are. Pros: Great Beer , Not kid friendly Cons: Food is so so more

Downhill 9/28/2008

It has been a while since I have been to Brewvies. While still a unique and enjoyable experience for those of us in SLC, it has dropped a couple of notches. When i first arrived a long line was extending out the door. Initially, I thought not big thing, being a Saturday, then I noticed four people were in the bar/restaurant side of things. Upon buying tickets for the movie, we were told go around the corner and wait in another equally long line to get food and drinks. After forcing our way past the teller to the empty bar we were greeted by a gruff bartender who was obviously annoyed by our buying beer and food at the 'wrong side.' Not being in a hurry, we ordered beer and wanted time to order food. This was an obvious inconvenience, shown by repeated long dramatic glances at the clock. Again we told him we were in no hurry to order food and would be ready to order when he returned with our drinks. This elicited the response, 'I'll wait for you' and again turned toward the clock. Basically, we felt like our presence was a tremendous annoyance to the staff. Again, the food was good, the beer cold and the movie experience great. I remember the place being very relaxed and accommodating. I'll be back for the good stuff, but if some competition opened up, I'd surely go there instead. Pros: Food, beer and flick Cons: Forcing moviegoers into multiple lines and rude staff more

I wish there were more places like this! 4/26/2007

I love Brewvies! The first time I went, I was hooked! They're always getting new movies, and most are really really good. Most the time it's the movies I meant to see in the theatres but didn't get to in time. Right after they leave the big expensive theaters they are played at Brewvies!!! And how can you beat a movie and beer AND food (if you so wish)? And they seem to pick most of the best new movies!\r Some of their foods aren't the greatest ever, BUT their pizza bread is amazing, and the portions are HUGE! Nachos are good, hummus is great and of HUGE portions (as is everything really), potato wedges are good, various burgers and sandwiches are good, salads are large and amazing. I wouldn't suggest their brewvies burrito or most of their soups though. Perhaps just my opinion, but bleh. \r I've also noticed over the past many months, they've gotten friendlier staff. Used to be not as friendly, and now it's like everyone's your friend! Kind of like on Cheers, but with movies and better lighting! :)\r Did I forget to mention the pool tables? I believe there are 4 of them, and on certain days and times, pool is free! 2 arcade machines, a nice little patio to smoke on if you need... nice little table area in front of your theater seats to set your beer and food on.... I could pretty much live at Brewvies.\r \r Pros: Great prices, lots of beers on tap, friendly staff, large menu, large portions of food, great new movies! Cons: a few of the foods are below average. more

Don't bother 12/23/2006

I ordered soup at this place and there was a dead fly in it. Most of the servers give poor service and have been rude 8 out of the 10 times I've been there in the past 6 months so you can't say I didn't give them a chance. The food is generally bland and a lot of their beer on tap is never in stock every time I've gone. You can see the same movies at the Sugarhouse Movies 10 for $1 instead more

User review by mlueck 2/8/2006

Excellent place to watch a movie with NO KIDS, NO BABIES! I won't even consider going to another theater. Great value, great leg room. Pros: NO KIDS/BABIES, Lots of leg room, Beer! Cons: service, lines more

User review by scminslc 3/15/2005

Full selection of Uinta brews. Try the Scorpion pint. At $5.50 it is a great beer for the movies!!! Pros: Legroom in theater, Tables in theater, $2.00 matinees Cons: theater seats, no smoking more

We had a great time! 9/10/2004

We just discovered the place and we love it. The food was decent and it was great to get real food to take into a theater and wash down with a cold beer. Speaking of the beer, I'm totally picky about what beer I like. I only like a Heifweizen and they actually had one! and on tap!! Also, they knew enough to serve it with a lemon slice just like it should be served. They also had Guiness on tap so my husband was happy too. What more could we ask? Pros: Good beer, Good movies, Friendly people Cons: , Bar area-smallish, In downtown SLC more

Brewvies is the BEST 5/9/2003

I have been going to Brewvies for years and have (almost) never been dissapointed. The staff have all been there for years and thank god, are down to earth, real people. Although they continue to tinker with the food, the menu always has something for everyone and the movies are great. The environment is relaxing, comfortable, and diverse. The pool tables are often free and the digital music is usually good (except when they play butt-rock!) Pros: Good food, Good movies, Good service Cons: Menu changes, Increased prices more

Needs Better Food 4/14/2003

Its a great concept, but the food is consistently poor. Have a beer and watch some good flicks but avoid the food. Pros: concept, good movies, beer Cons: terrible food more

Great Movies Good Beer 3/13/2003

This place is fun. Movies, Food and Beer. I've been a few times and had a lot of fun. It's not fine dining but the foods not that bad. One this is missing though... Bohemian on tap! What's up with that? Pros: Movies, Beer Cons: Selection, Seating more

Our Sanctuary! 3/2/2003

What a great place -- an oasis when you long for being outside of ""typical"" Utah. The staff is friendly, and the quality of the bar-food menu is consistent and fresh (try the onion rings). There's a good selection of beer. Pros: Unique, Friendly, Not too expensive Cons: TVs located in Bar more
