Good food, good beer, good times 4/26/2009

I went to dinner here last night. My wife ordered the shrimp Po' boy, and i got the prime rib sandwich, and we ordered side salads. Our dinners came out before our salads, and with out us even saying anything, the manager came up and said he was sorry, and that our drinks would be on the house. more

The Chef is a Genius! Food is Epic! 12/28/2008

I stayed over in Sacramento to be close to the airport and followed my nose to this restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse menu selection. The Chef has created an award winning menu and I truly wanted one of everything. First, the onion rings are the best I have ever had! It is rare to see 4 star food selections in a brewery setting and you definitely get exquisite meals at very fair prices. The beer is pretty good but the food, like I said before, is EPIC. Thanks for the pleasant surprise during my short visit! Pros: The Food is Incredible! Cons: Downtown, parking seems difficult more

Take-out orders always wrong!!!! 9/19/2008

Why do you guys ALWAYS mess up our order? We believe in 2nd chances...we have been nice enough to give you a 3rd...even a 4th and 5th chance...and still-its ALWAYS WRONG...We live in the immediate area, we like to support local restaurants, and we are big fans of some of the menu items you guys have, (like the burgers, fries, the ahi tuna salad), but every time we order from you, there is something wrong. Do you not like us? Is this revenge???? I just dont understand how we get our order wrong EVERY time we go in???? The servers and hosts are very friendly, and when the food is right; it is delicious, but that is RARELY the case. The one time we ate there(in the restaurant) everything was fine, but we like to get to-go orders since we live only a couple blocks away. The worst order you messed up was when we ordered a club with no ham, and all you put on it was ham....that was $12 ham sandwhich.... and we HATE HAM!!!! We have also ordered a burger with no mayo that only had mayo...stuff like that!! Its always little but very important things...Anyway, I think you guys could be great if you paid a little bit more attention to all the take out orders! Please try harder!! We need you downtown!!! Pros: Food great.... when correct! Cons: Food never correct :( more

Sad and Disappointing Evening 4/5/2008

What happened to this place? I use to come here all the time because of the great food and service. I was here the other night and the food was horrible! None of the same great bartenders were there which was a shame because the new ones couldn't make a drink right for the life of them. How sad. more

St. Patty's Day 3/19/2008

This year I decided to take part in the tour of pubs with brew it up (their annual pub crawl) and i couldn't tell you a more fun experience I've ever had on St. Patricks Day. Im from folsom so i dont go to brew it up very often but, let me tell you, they can throw a party!!! We drove around downtown on a couple different buses heading to 5 different bars (i think, I might've had a drink or two) The two tour guides we had were great. They let us party on the bus but managed to keep us under control and responsible (tough task) Thanks John and Tim... The crowd on the buses were fun and ready to do it big for St Pats Day. With that many drunk people in 1 setting I didnt see a single person get out of line. After making our round through the bars we decided to stay at brew it up. Good choice. Beautiful women, Great DJ and Great Beer. As long as brew it up does this on St. Patricks Day, IM THERE! Thanks again to the brew it up staff and everyone involved. You guys are AWESOME!!! Pros: Awesome Event, Great Staff, Fun, Fun, Fun Cons: St Pattys day is once a year more

Don't eat the food 3/15/2008

Brew it up WAS my favorite brewpub in the area for both beer and food until recently (I was even one of the few growler club members). This ended on my last trip when a live insect (citysearch lists the type of insect as an inappropriate word...it is the typical insect you find in unclean restaurants) was served with my wife?s dinner. Cons: The food more

LOUSY, DISSAPOINTING FOOD 2/10/2008

Although 2 of us in party have extensive past and present food backgrounds, ""we are easy to please, not picky and ""OBJECTIVE."" We started with shared appetizer of ""fried brussel sprouts"", soaggy, swimming in oil. The ""fall off the bone tender ribs"" tasted boiled and you had to fight with your fork, knife and teeth to TEAR off the bone. ""Brined"" pork loin also tasted boiled, blah and polenta dry and old tasting. Brining should infuse flavor!! Crab cake and portabella mushroom sandwich a bit better although way too much balsamic vinegar on mushroom. Beer and hard cider average at best. WHO GAVE THE POSITIVE REVIEWS, FRIENDS ,FAMILY?? Pros: good location Cons: LOUSY FOOD more

Superb food, stellar wait staff 11/11/2007

It's a brewpub but it's classy and professional-looking - not like those dank hole in the wall places in Portland (where I used to live). The food was superb; my dining companions and I enjoyed everything we touched. The drink menu is great; the wait staff was stellar and attentive, and all-in-all, it was a great experience. Pros: Atmosphere, staff, food Cons: A bit expensive, but what do you expect for stellar food and stellar service? more

Boring and Bland 9/25/2007

I found the salad dressing to be very bland. My companion also used the word bland to describe his beer and felt the quality of meat used in the burger wasn't of a very high standard. The service was average. Pros: Location Cons: Food and Beer more

Best Sacramento Brewery 3/30/2007

Coming from the great PNW I am accustomed to wonderful brewery experiences. I was not disappointed by Brew It Up. The atmosphere was enjoyable as family dining in the restaurant or casual conversation in the bar. The brews are all great and they make unique and creative cocktails with their beers. The food is decent for a brewery and the selection is great. When I have out of town guest who want to a brewery experience I always bring them to this brewery for either lunch or dinner. more

Great Beer and Great food! 1/30/2007

After traveling all over the west coast and europe checking out brew pubs this one rates pretty high on my list. Definately the best Sacramento has to offer. Most brew pubs tend to have more of a relaxed burger type menu, not the case here. Excellent variety in dishes, the fish is some of the best I have had in a long time. Great service every time I have been there. The stout is delicious! Upper scale dining in a brewery can't beat it. more

Good Happy Hour 11/14/2006

Great happy hour! For only $2.50 you can get a glass of hard cider, and the appetizers are pretty cheap, too. Get reservations if you want a table, because it gets crowded quick. Pros: cheap more

great beers, and the food was incredible for a brew pub 11/9/2006

Don't expect regular fried beer pup food here. Though they have it on the menu, the is plenty of other good foor to try. You can try your hand at brewing your on, but I've yet to do it. Pros: beer, food, ambience Cons: can be crowded, not a place for romantic dinner conversation more

Great chef! Great food! 8/3/2006

The tequila shrimp entre is to die for---just the right balance of lemon and garlic. I ordered it on the recommendation of others who have tried it. The grilled ahi salad is also delicious with chopped mangos, strawberries, and blueberries. Refreshing in the summer. Warm, fresh baked pretzels served with a mustard sauce upon being seated is a nice touch. My companion ordered the clam chowder (prepared on Fridays). He was served a hearty portion of homestyle chower with plenty of clams in it. Hats off to the chef! Pros: The Food more

Just fine until you eat the food 8/8/2005

Four of us dined before going to the Music Circus. Two of us ordered the Black Bean Spareribs, described as fall of the bone tender. Well, they had been cooked primarily by being boiled, not grilled. Black Bean sauce had been applied to one side and lightly grilled. The meat was tasteless since they had not been marinated or cooked with any seasoning. My wife and her friend also felt their food was barely adequate. Given that one eats at a restaurant primarily for the quality of the meal, this was a very disappointting restaurant. Yes it is very convenient to the Music Circus by being across the street, but it would have been better to eat somewhere else and then park in the public garage next door. Pros: Service, atmosphere, location Cons: food, food, food more

Sufficient Pre or Post Theatre Dining 8/5/2005

We usally come here before seeing a play and they always make every effort to keep us on schedule. It is my understanding that they are open late to accomodate the post-theatre crowd as well. They have a great selection of alcoholic beverages and the soft pretzels and spicy mustard that come before your meal are a nice break from bread and butter. I have never found the food to be anything that makes me jump out of my chair but it is adequate and filling. You can even make your own beer here! Sounds like fun! Pros: Pretzels and Mustard, Alcohol Selection, Attentive Staff Cons: Food only average, Can get loud, Can get crowded more

food & brews beyond the expected 1/24/2005

combine a great downtown restaurant...a multi-tap bar with incredible variety of beer...and brewery fresh flavors and you have Brew It Up! I was impressed by the variety and quality of the menu - far more than the tpyical fried grub, and then the 22 beer on tap struck me - over a dozen unique beer styles represented by 22 different beers - all brewed onsite and brewery fresh. Very cool. Though I didn't bother with either...the liquor list and wine list stand tall compared to any downtown venue. Pros: food quality, friendly servers, beer quality/quantity Cons: (good in my book, but maybe not yours) a real brewery with real brewery aromas...the place smells like fresh hops! more
