A representative from Bertie Heating & Air Conditioning came to my home on 4/16 to diagnose an air conditioner that was blowing warm air. The young man was polite, and cordial. He was respectful, as well. While looking at our unit, he must have told us, at least 4 times, that he was ""still in school"". This became apparent, when he started with one diagnosis that simply involved a new compressor and a re-charge of the system, to a multi-part replacement that would cost thousands, to a brand new unit, and air handler.\r \r To say my husband and I were concerned about his ability to diagnose the problem, is an understatement. The service call lasted about 45 minutes. By the end, he was standing firm on us simply needing a new unit, and arranged for a ""Comfort Consultant"" to come out the next day, and give us an estimate on a new unit. So, we paid the $95.00 visit, which yielded nothing but uncertainty, and waited to speak to the other representative about the situation.\r \r This young man (older than the tech, at least), spent about 15 minutes looking at the old unit, walking around the house, and then went out to his vehicle to print a quote. The estimate was for $4,300.00 for a new unit, air handler, touch screen programmable thermostat (which we didn't need), concrete pad (which we didn't need), and testing/sealing all duct work. \r \r After I looked at the estimate, I expressed my concerns to this representative about the diagnosis given by the young, ""still in school"" tech. I told him that his company was asking us to put a substantial dent in our savings, and if the roles were reversed, I am sure you would want a second opinion before dropping that amount of money on something you weren't convinced you needed. He told me that the young man in question had been doing this for about 5 years, and he knew this because he has been with the company for 7. I told him that he needs to work on his sales pitch then, because he had us convinced he shouldn't even be on calls solo, yet. We felt it was in all fairness, to ask for a second tech to come out, and offer a second opinion. \r \r The ""Comfort Consultant"" assured me Mr. Bertie takes all concerns seriously, and that someone from the office would contact us that afternoon. Someone did contact my husband, and left a voicemail. My husband returned his call the same day, and left a message with the office receptionist. Since then, we have heard NOTHING from Bertie Heating & Air Conditioning. \r \r The bottom line, is all we asked for was a little reassurance that our money was being spent wisely, and they couldn't be bothered to follow up. You don't just ask someone to spend $4,300.00 with your company on blind faith. Based on this experience, we contacted another company, who installed the SAME unit Bertie had quoted us on, minus the thermostat and other things we *didn't* need replaced, to the tune of $3,000.00 We didn't mind spending the money. If you need a new unit, you do what you have to do. Just don't ask someone to do it with no assurances or confidence. Of which I have neither, in Bertie Heating & Air Conditioning. more

Rude service 5/11/2011

As with other reviewers in the Gainesville area, I received disappointingly rude service from the technician who was dispatched to my home (Nate). He was impolite and generally unpleasant to have in my home. He did not seem to like his work, or the people he serves. I am not sure why this has not been addressed previously, based upon other feedback Bertie has received.\r \r Adding to the poor experience, the repair was simple, but expensive! It was unfortunate, because I had heard such good things about the company. I guess I was misled. I would recommend going with another company if you care about customer service. more

Excellent Service! 12/3/2008

Over the years, we have found Bertie to be one of the best AC companies in Gainesville. Since replacing our system in the spring of 2007, we have had dramatic decreases in our energy bill. We are very satisfied with their customer service and technicians. We recommend them to all of our friends and neighbors. more

Wonderful Experience 10/16/2008

I had a new system installed in my home. We got several bids from other top companies in town. Bertie was the only company that checked the ductwork and did calculations to make sure I had the right size of unit. There were leaks in my ductwork that had been like that for years. The estimator Duane took pictures and showed me how they would seal the holes up without costing a lot. I was impressed with their technology. When the system was installed, the guys were on time and had drop cloths to protect my floors. They were very respectful to me and my family. And they worked hard the whole day to get the system up and going that same day. I would recommend Bertie to anyone. more

OK So Far 6/30/2008

I had an AC unit installed last year (2007). The installation was great and workers hard-working and pleasant. I expected some service this year, but have seen or heard nothing. Last year when I called to check if I was eligible for a rebate, I was told "no" which is okay since I had opted for a cheaper model. I do think the lady who is owner needs someone else to handle calls. She really has poor customer service communication skills, but so far the AC unit has been fine, so I guess I'm lucky. more

I found Bertie in the Yellow pages and I am so glad I gave them a call. From beginning to end, my experience with this company was nothing but pleasant. The service department is top knotch. The young man who visited my home was very knowledgeble and courteous. I would recommend this company to anyone in need of \r AC service. more

My problem (leak of the A/C unit) was solved by one visit. Punctual service and thorough inspection were provided. Highly recommended. Their arrival fee was $75. more

Nice Servicemen 10/20/2005

The Men who come out and work on your A/C are very knowledgable, kind, and understanding. The cost for Bertie's Service is competible with other company's in Gainesville, But there service I believe is a lot better. They also have a very nice showroom where you can come and look @ some of the latest in A/C technology. There will be a friendly member of the staff to assist you with any questions. It's very easy to find if you know Gainesvlle. more

Honest AC company 9/27/2005

We were worried when we had to call an AC repairman because we were convinced that we would be told we needed a new AC regardless of whether we did or not. Well the people at Bertie's are extremely friendly and honest. I never felt like they were trying to squeeze every penny out of us. Will only use Bertie's from now on! more

Air Conditioning Service 7/27/2005

We had a problem with our air conditioning and called a bunch of places. Bertie's was the only one willing to come on a Sat and not charge us triple time. He was fast and got our air back on in a very short period of time more
