Average food and wine in a great atmosphere 11/20/2008

This place has a great atmosphere in the bar and front dining areas, but the back area is a bit cold and quiet. We found it funny that it?s called a wine bar, but our waiter didn?t like the Cabernet on the menu and only recommended 2 or 3 of the red wines. We expected a more interesting wine menu as well. Regarding food, when we asked about the hamburger, our waiter said it was ?pedestrian? (which we assumed he meant was just so so). The chicken had great flavor but was a bit dry and the steak came out undercooked twice but in the end tasted good. If you?re just looking for a place with average food and an average wine list with great atmosphere, this place is for you. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Wine list and food more

Always A Gem 11/18/2008

Our last visit to Beaujo's reconfirms why we continue to visit. Delicious mushroom soup, delectable cheese plate and our favorite the ""red wine flight"". Friendly, knowledgable wait-staff, you can tell they love working here! We enjoy the seasonal changing wine list as this gets us out of our ""box"". Pros: Staff, ambience, wine flights Cons: No breakfast more

I love the European feel 11/14/2008

As one who likes to frequent smaller local establishments, in my opinion Beaujo's stands out because of it's unique comfortable atmosphere. We have been there numerous times and enjoy the variety of wines and the simple bistro style comfort foods. The last time in I had the meatloaf sandwich which I highly recommend. We will be back. more

Stay away 11/8/2008

Between 2 people we had one dirty glass, one dirty spoon, a potato and leek soup in which the potatos were not quite cooked, a wine endorsed by the server that was not great ... and nobody even asked about the meal, although everything was only half eaten. There are plenty of other places to eat around. more

A Neighborhood ""Gem""!! 8/6/2008

Over the past five years, I've enjoyed dozens of tasty meals at Beaujous it's become one of those favorite ""comfy"" hang-outs for me in the Twin Cities. Being a bit of a wine afficianado, I am consistently delighted by sampling wines I do not find anywhere else! The walleye positively rocks my world -- Quite possibly the best in town (be sure to try it!!) Consistently friendly staff puts me at ease, even when I dine alone. A slam-dunk easy choice for meeting gal pals after work. Pros: Ambience, Wine List, Walleye, Reliable, Charming Cons: Can get crowded after movies more

Great food & wonderful wine list! 8/6/2008

The crowds must say something for this little wine bar in Edina! Despite the bad reviews, there still seems to be a good flow of people coming in to eat on weekend evenings. The wait is worth the food, wine and atmosphere. I've always found Beaujo's to be a wonderful date place...great art on the walls, wonderful wine list and delicious little plates of food. For a filling meal, my favorite is the steak salad. The servers are attentive and can always suggest a nice wine. Highly recommended for a quiet evening, or a small group of friends wanting to catch up. Oh - and the spread plate is really good, too. more

great value, great food 8/6/2008

I don't need a reason to come to Beaujo's for a great meal and some new wines...I'll drive from downtown just for fun. if I'm solo, I love to sit at the bar and watch the action on both sides and in the kitchen...if with a friend or a group, a high top near the window is my favorite spot. The soups are incredible...always a vegetarian option...and the mushroom pate and salad nicoise are delish and highly recommended! The staff knows their stuff too...never get a bad wine recommendation from them. The people watching is great...it's a destination for me when I have a good day and when I have a bad day! Pros: soups are incredible Cons: my favorite table can be taken! more

Bad food, bad wine, bad service 6/20/2008

If you are ever in the 50th and France neighborhood, known for upscale shops and restaurants, you expect a pricey yet quality meal. You will get none of these at Beaujo. The restaurant, which at first impression looks like a funky hangout served plain crappy food on small plates. The wines are overpriced (7-10 per glass) and the one I chose was tart and thin. The wait staff could care less about the truth - the burger ($6.50), described as excellent, was boiled and then microwaved, covered with pepper, then cut in half. You can find better at any fast food place. The Beef Tenderloin Sandwich ($14.50) was bland, small, and unsatisfying. The tomato soup was similarly bland - hardly spiced. To top off the meal, the coffee is instant, microwaved in the mug. There is a Starbucks just a block away if you are looking for coffee. Let me save you a trip - Life is too short to eat here. Cons: Bad service, bad food, bad wine more

Bad Service 8/1/2007

My wife and I went to on an early Saturday night. Immediately upon entering I got the feeling I was interrupting something because the servers/asscoiates were chatting at the bar and weren't too quick to help us figure out whether or not we should find our own table or be seated by a host. There were only a couple of other groups so we got an order in rather quick and the food and drink (meat and cheese plate, salad and wine) came promptly. The greatest disappointment came in the form of service. The woman server, we had that night, did not check on us until it was time to get the bill. When she wasn't taking orders from new customers she was chatting at the bar with coworkers [ I'd say about 80% of the time we were there]. The second major disappointment was that the wine glasses were filthy looking. Shouldn't it be a priority for a WINE BAR to make sure there wine glasses are perfectly clean. Overall a really strange and disappointing experience. more

Wonderful Euro traditional wine bar 7/5/2007

My husband and I were thrilled when Beaujo's opened in Edina. This area needed something chic as everything else around 50th and France smacks of franchises and corporate owned chains no matter how much revitalization our area here goes through. The food is wonderful and one needs to be mindful that it is not a restaurant. It is a wine bistro in the true tradition of the type I see in Germany or France. Emphasizing an extensive menu is not the point. The focus being a selection of some very decent wines with some tasty food accompaniments. It made me feel like I was back in Europe. I was raised in Chicago & New York, and Frankfurt & Paris when we were overseas, so I was thrilled to find this gem. I hope people from the area embrace this place (and the wonderful owners) and come out of their safe comfort zone of ersatz ""ethnic"" eating habits. I love it and wish the owners great success. Pros: A one of a kind traditional bistro. Cons: Closes early for a wine bistro. Small. Could be a fabulous meeting of the intelligentsia, ala Vienna. more

I felt like I was back in Europe! 11/17/2006

Really can't complain about this place! The wine list is great and there are things to try on every budget. The menu is small but diverse and the sandwiches are amazing. The only complain I could have is that it does not appear to be wheelchair accessible- maybe to stay true to the Old World vibe... more

once a regular now no more 3/25/2006

My husband and I live in the neighborhood. We soon became regulars. The food is terrific. The wine had been very good. Service is great. However, tonight I ordered a glass of wine, the same wine I had a week ago. A week ago it was great, but tonight it tasted like it was WATERED DOWN! I was so disappointed. Also, they closed off the back door. While it can be cold for people in the back, others, including myself suck it up and deal with it! Tonight, some old man tried to tell my husband and I that the door was locked, when it wasn't, and then his wife complained that it was TOO COLD. I was thinking, I've sat back here myself. Anyway, we were ultimately forced to go out the front door and walk all the way around to the back parking ramp. What a joke! more

My favorite... 1/5/2006

I just stumbled upon this gem. The food is to die for, the wine selection has a large variety and always great and the service is the best. Pros: Food , Wine , Service more

Worst Place I have Been to in my LIfe 12/15/2005

I wanted to buy a bottle of wine to take home (I had done that before). This time i had to order food. It was mediocre and looking like a knock off from a restaurant downtown (brendas). It was cold and had bad presentation. I was never asked how the food was, I was ignored The waitress ate soup behind the bar. I asked for manager to give feedback. The owner was there, she came out and interrogated me. I WAS THE WRONG ONE. I ordered wine. But, she offered to comp me, I refused. She insisted and took my wine, the only thing i went in for. I will never go there or recommend it to a soul - the OWNER treated me like that!!!! Stay AWAY!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had more words to say about it - you can call me at 612-685-3826 if you want more details. Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Rude Owner, Mediocre Food, Stealing Recipes more

Great Service, Great Atmosphere, Great Menu!!! 9/25/2005

The staff was well educated on their wines and made great recommendations for the type of wine I enjoy. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable which was really relaxing. The food was delicious. I will definitely be going back there. Pros: Inexpensive, Romantic, Cozy more

Mediocre Food, Wine 5/2/2005

We had the cheese plate, which for $11 should be pretty darn good, but we were disappointed. This place doesn't know what it wants to be and isn't good at either food or wine. more

On a Saturday afternoon... 7/21/2003

it wasn't busy. We were given prompt service and weren't rushed through our meal. The food was excellent and I would recommend it. Very enjoyable and plan on going back. Pros: quiet, good service, great food more
