The Baton Rouge Zoo is quite a drive for most folks -- unless you're one of the lucky ones who live in North Baton Rouge, near the Baker area. Coming from Denham Springs, it's a ...

Inexpensive Family Fun... 11/27/2005

This is the perfect place for great inexpensive family togetherness. The Baton Rouge Zoo offers a great selection of animals, a petting zoo for the kids and a play area to sit and rest for awhile and let the kids play. The have a snack bar that has decent pricing. We recommend this to anyone a great way to get the family out of the house doing something without breaking the bank.. PROS: price/attractions CONS: none more

Nice Zoo! Many animals, friendly staff. 11/23/2005

My children enjoy this zoo so much that we bought a year membership, and frequent it a couple times a month. It is not expensive, about $15 for a family of 4, and a full year membership is only about $30-$45, depending on the options you choose. They offer seasonal activities, like "Boo at the Zoo" in October, where children "trick or treat" around the zoo at stations set up by local merchants. Much more toddler friendly than door-to-door or nighttime trick or treat! The white tiger is usually prowling the front of his cage (you might even get a growl) and there are elephant shows twice a day. The cafeteria makes good hamburgers, but that (and hotdogs and nachos) are about the extent of the menu, so we usually don't make it a lunch stop. My only disappointment is that in the heat of summer, this zoo doesn't offer as shady of walks as other zoos that we have enjoyed, so I would only recommend it when it is cool enough for comfort (or early morning/late afternoon). Need a Cheap Exciting Outing 11/17/2005

The baton rouge zoo is a great place to take your kids during the week or weekend. The rates to get into the zoo are very low. My kids love the zoo. I suggest taking a ride around the zoo on the train. It is worth the money and everyone(including the adults) will love getting to see a scenic view of the zoo. If you can track down an entertainment book, you can find a buy one get one free admission to the zoo. This makes it a very cheap family outing. more

Great zoo, buy the season pass 11/6/2005

The Baton Rouge Zoo is a great place to take your children and expect them to learn something as well as have a good time. They have many different animals, and a petting zoo, which is usually the kids' favorite. Not too pricey if you get a season pass. Our family enjoys going as a group. PROS: Fun and Exciting CONS: none more

Great Family Entertainment! 7/27/2005

The zoo is such a great place to spend the afternoon with children. A new playground has recently opened near the petting zoo and it is amazing! The equipment is top of the line and a special foam padding prevents injuries if the little ones should fall. My family bought a season pass and has been at least 6 times in the past 4 months. more

Lots of animals and clean! 6/16/2005

We visited the Baton Rouge Zoo on a recent vacation and was very impressed with it. It is a very large zoo and they have every type of animal that you would every want to see! We visited on a cooler day so there weren't many people there which was great but I can imagine tons of people there on a nice day. They also have a train ride that takes you around the zoo. Our train broke down though but it didn't take long for someone to come fix it and for us to be on our way. more

local zoo 5/17/2005

My kids love to go to the zoo. We're zoo members. It's quite economical to be a member. The Baton Rouge Zoo has a wonderful children's play area. Boo at the Zoo is also a great Halloween tradition. more

Educational and fun...it's all at the BR Zoo! 4/19/2005

The zoo has come a long way in the past few years. From the beautiful new otter exhibit area to the improvements with the childrens' playground outside the petting zoo...if you haven't been to the zoo lately it is time. Zoo admission prices are very reasonable-but even more reasonable are the zoo membership packages that not only enable you to unlimited free admission (according to the package you purchased) but also to special events such as Boo at the Zoo (their Halloween night special event) and Zippity Zoo days. Call for details. more
