I found Avus on Google. I just moved to LA, and needed a local shop to work on my BMW Z3. I'm picky about my car, & I take online reviews very seriously.
When I found Avus Autosport, I loved that they were Dinan Authorized. That means these guys are pros, and not just a bunch of stupid monkeys swinging wrenches around and making up excuses when something doesn't work.
I read all of the reviews. Most were exceptional, but 1 made me laugh out loud. It sounded like a person who mostly just bitches about everything all day long. It was her 1 star review stacked against all the 5 star reviews that actually inspired me to call Avus.
They answered on the first ring, and I knew I was dealing with professionals. Jonathan took some preliminary info, and assured me of a call back within 10 minutes to discuss my repair. I hate to be left on hold when I'm calling a new business, and they got that without a word from me.
Within 5 minutes, Amir called to discuss my service. He was candid & professional without coming off as arrogant or full of crap, like some shops can.
We discussed some options for the repair, and set an appointment for the next morning.
When I got to the shop I was immediately impressed by how clean it was. The front office, the workshop, the sidewalk out front, it was a model of what I expect. No blaring music, no oily rags laying around, and the space itself was well designed and attractive. My car actually looked better INSIDE the shop than it did outside! It was so cool that I even had my girlfriend come inside just to SEE it. It's THAT well done.
Amir explained the next steps of the service. He explained how the billing works, and gave me an estimate based on his expectations for the repair. I was assured of a call if for any reason the repair might take longer, or cost more. This was all quick, courteous, and professional the whole way.
I left my car confident I would be satisfied.
A few hours later, Amir called with an update, & told me the car would be ready in the next 20 minutes. That was fast! Often times a shop will hold your car hostage while they 'wait for parts' or whatever- but this was in and out. Even with my high expectations, I was still surprised & very impressed.
When I picked up the car, I met Andy the owner. He clearly takes great pride in his shop and their work, as well as his team. It was clear that he valued my time, and that he valued me as a customer.
My car was spotless, and the work was done with meticulous attention to detail. I assume most BMW owners are as finicky about their cars as I am, and I assure you, the team at Avus understands and executes their work perfectly.
Payment. Let's face it. In this world, you get what you pay for. These guys are not out to take advantage of people. They want to make you happy, and they know that gouging your wallet isn't going to make you happy. Their prices are fair & competitive, and the service is top notch, & better than any dealership.
With a firm handshake and an easy swipe of my card we were done, and not a penny over the estimate. AMAZING!
Lastly, there's nothing I hate more than taking my car in for something simple, and after the repair, a mechanic says, "" oh by the way, I found about $5,000 more worth of crap you need to take care of on your car"" ... Avus doesn't pull that card, and that's another reason I'll be back.
It was all so simple and fast - I didn't want to leave. I wanted to hang around & talk shop for a minute, about cars, tuning, whatever. - They were all ears. No one rushed me out because they had 'more important things' to do.
That's when I learned how Avus Autosport got its name, which was interesting. I drove home happy and researched a famous race track in Germany which shares the name.
Not only have I found a great shop close to home, I've also found a team of people as dedicated to the care and livelihood of my car as I am. A++
