A Small Bike Shop With Clout. 4/27/2009

UNIQUE like a BOUTIQUE...and I live in Charlestown, and I commute a great deal and race a bit. I found that ATA Cycles is a bike shop that has it all, and if they don't have it in stock they can order it for you ASAP. I have frequented some of the other local shops and I have found them to either be too busy, or rude and obnoxious. The small shop experience with friendly sales-staff makes one feel like they're shopping with clout, rather than flailing about in the usual cycling vat of parts and ponderings. At ATA Cycles this is par for the course, and they also boast some amazing inventory. I recently bought a Look racing bike there and it really is a delight to ride... just make sure you get sized by their personal fit-system before dropping the duckets on two wheels. Pros: Great Racing Bikes and Very Knowledgeable and Helpful Staff. Cons: Too far from the airport. more

VERY BAD SERVICE 12/8/2008

WORST! WORST! WORST! I tried several bike shops in Cambridge. I do not hesitate to say ATA CYCLE is simply the WORST. People there do not have knowledge, suggested a wrong item even when I brought my bike with me, and refused to refund. They gave me a store credit, which is useless because they do not have items that fit my bike. The people in ATA CYCLE are very UNFRIENDLY. I wish I could give no star. AVOID ATA CYCLE unless you want to waste your money. Cons: Service more

bikes for everyone 10/22/2008

I first went to ata looking for a commuter bike - cycling isn't my primary sport. I had shopped around some area cycle shops but staff were condescending to me or pretty much pushed any product figuring I hadn't a clue. When I got to ata, the sales guy, who I later found out was the owner, actually steered my towards a less expensive option than I was looking at that was more appropriate to my frame, etc., and the kind of riding I was planning on. I still hadn't a clue, but he was patient and informative, especially since I didn't exactly look like a repeat customer at the time. Long story short, I later decided to diversify my sporting life and decided to get a road bike. I went back to ata and had an extensive fitting session and ended up with a bike that I love. The folks at ata are pretty passionate about bikes and will share info to whatever level you want. They clearly love to ride and want everyone else to have their best ride, too! Pros: Staff very knowledgable but casual and friendly Cons: Storefront is weird - not sure which level is the entrance - confusing more

Best Bike Shop in Boston, and one of the Best in the Country!!! 8/7/2008

I've been a customer of ATA for about 7 years and my experience with them has been nothing short exceptional. The staff at ATA is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, as well as informative. The product lines ATA carry is probably the highlight of the store, although their service department is also very very good. Their fitting service is one of kind and should win them awards (computers/lasers etc, it's crazy!) I own mountain (NRS 1), fixed gear (Omnium Track), and road bikes (Wilier), and this shop's got it all. Having lived and operated my own business in Boston for over 7 years, I appreciate the extra mile these guys always go to keep me happy. I recently moved to the west coast (LA), and have not found any shops that are even close to as good as ATA. Needless to say, I still shop with them from my new city, and recommend them anybody who is interested in exceptional cycling products and service. Keep up the great work guys! Pros: Amazing product selection, great staff Cons: Far from my home more

Best Cycling & Fitting in the Northeast 7/17/2008

Husam & his team were extremely thorough in their pursuit of finding me the best cycle to fit my experience & budget. He even offered me a professional fitting out in his Concord store. This was a 2.5 hour process in which he took all sorts of various measurements, plugged the information into a high tech software program, and even used a lazer to determine that my peddling fit was precise. At the end he provided me with all the detailed information about the bike setup for reference in the future. The bike rides like a dream and I have never been so excited to cycle more frequently & at greater lengths. I would recommend their shop to anyone in need of an excellent bike and a perfect fitting. more

Very dissappointing service 6/3/2008

The customer service at ATA, Cambridge is very dissappoining. The guy there was not very willing to explain the different brands and models they got. I am not a bike expert, so I expected at least he will ask what I am looking for and what model may best suit to my need. I felt like I should be on my own. I would suggest to first time buyer - stay away from this place. more

Best bike shop in New England 5/26/2008

I have been cycling for over 40 years and ride/race over 250 miles/week. On one of my rides I happened by ATA and entered bike heaven. THE best selection of quality bikes with a knowledgeable/friendly staff. Husam suggested that I might get more power if he tweaked my fitting. After spending over 90 minutes doing a comprehensive fitting (computer, laser..all the stuff) he set my bike up and I rode away. As promised, I could tell a huge difference in my power. The bikes you drowl over in Velonews? He's got'em. So..great bikes, great staff and great support what more could you ask? Oh, one more thing... they don't look at you funny when you ask them to repair your Campy stuff...they actually carry the parts! If you haven't been to this shop you owe it to yourself to stop by and enjoy the best bike shop in New England. more

ATA Concord: Best top-end bike store in all of Boston 10/7/2007

This specialty bike store intends to serve those customers with a passion for cycling and want to experience it without the frustrations of inferior equipment or an improperly fitting bike. If you are interested in a bike that suits you, this is the place to start. You won't be sold a bike that is in stock simply because it is in stock, rather you will be pointed towards a bike appropriate for your size, build, and fitness level. While at times, that may mean paying a bit more, rest assured that that additional expense will pay dividends over the miles you ride. Pros: Quality of products and selection Cons: Difficult to get to Concord location more

Amazing products and service, plus a great story, read on....... 2/7/2007

I went into the store and I was met by curious and knowledgeable people. They either professional riders or once where and thus, they know their stuff. I went in with a very firm $ limit that could spend on a new bike and I also am very tall (6'5"") and heavy (205lbs) two strikes against me if I want to buy a performance bike. The owner took ALL my measurements and then proceeded to configure a bike for me that turned out to be $1000 over my limit. He then proceeded to give me a $1000 DISCOUNT!!! From frame to handlebars I got only the best name brand components and gruppo. The technician that built my bike is a pro down hill racer and the store has EVERYTHING. From frames that you cannot find in the USA (one of 4 importers of Lapierre bikes in the State - and only one of 6 states in the USA). Pros: Service, products and staff...wow! Cons: Too many sweet things to buy! more

Poor, unreliable service 5/23/2006

This shop is one of the worst I have ever encountered. Poor customer service. Walk in the door, they ignore you. Ask a question, they ignore you. Tune-up results: they didn't true the wheels, nor align the brake pads, nor did they even adjust the front deraileur. It didn't work--you couldn't change gears! When asked why they didn't do this work, they said ""it didn't need to be done"" (which means they either didn't notice or didn't care). They were put-out that I asked them to do what I had paid for. No apologies, no explanations. This elitist, ""I'm only cool to my friends and people we know"" attitude is immature and lame. I think they really only care about having a place to hang and to work on their own bikes. Customers seem to be a nuisance to them. Pros: good parking, easy acccess Cons: customer service, unreliable, mechanics more

Poor service 11/25/2005

I bought a new Giant road bike from them because a friend said it was a well priced bike with good components. It was clear that they were not going to take the time to make sure the bike was properly adjusted to me. They said to ride it and come back if it needed adjusting. I rolled it out of there with no adjustments or spot checks from the sales rep, an elitist tour de france wanna be. During my first ride, I blew out my front tire. I took it to a different shop, and the guy there said that it most likely blew out because it was under inflated. Obviously, I was disappointed that the ATA didn't take more time to prep my bike. more

Obnoxious and disrespectful service 9/14/2005

On 9/13/05 I went there to get a flat tire repaired. They refused to simply repair the tube and changed the tube instead, arguing that if I wanted to repair the tube, I could do it myself (well, I could have changed the tube myself too, but I was feeling like supporting a local shop, guys). Right after I left the shop, and even before I used my bike, my tire went flat again. They changed the tube for free but not graciously (I had to insist quite a bit). Extremely obnoxious and disrespectful service. Unless you have a thousand dollar bike, you won't be well received for repairs. Sale service is a little bit better but prices are higher than average. Cons: service more

Bad experience buying a new bike in 2000 9/4/2005

I realize this experience may be a little out of date, as it happened in 2000. However, I never forgot it or forgave it! I came in attracted by a student bike sale; the bike was some $200 Raleigh mountain bike. Next morning, I as I descended from the Avon Hill area, I noticed an increasing vibration from the back of the bike. In a stroke of good luck, right as the vibration got menacing, I was a block away from ATA. That's when the rear wheel locked up, and I had to jump off against some parked cars. The rear wheel turned into a figure-8 donut after 10 minutes of riding! Naturally I brought it in to complain, and the smug sales guy said I must've hit the curb and refused to replace it. Instead they offered to sell me a new rear wheel for $60! more

They can't change a tire flat! 8/26/2003

A month ago my front bike tire (inner tube) went flat, and I brought it in for replacement. After paying $15, the new tube went popped after 10 minutes of riding. They wouldn't replace it for free, and I was stuck with another $15 fee. Now my rear tube went flat and like a fool I brought it to them for fixing. Sure enough, the tire went flat permanently on the first ride. They sell bike lights marked up $5-$10 above other stores. ATA Cycle is the closest bike shop to me by about a mile; that is the only reason I go there. Pros: location Cons: bad service, overpriced goods more
