Great thrift store 6/23/2011

I love thrift stores and this one happens to be very close to my apartment, so it's the one I go to the most often. It's a little dusty and a little dim in there, but you can be sure you'll find a lot of interesting stuff! CLOTHING It's true, most of the clothing is a little scary but if you know what you want, you might actually find it. I don't recommend this place if you just want to browse. That being said, I found three awesome skirts, each for under $7 and in very good condition. One of them was a Billabong mini, so cute! But I digress... HOUSEHOLD Ares has a ton of furniture, most of it in pretty good condition. They have cribs, desks, dressers, shelves etc. And they'll even loan you a dolly to get the stuff home if you lack a car and live nearby, as long as you leave some collateral, like a drivers licence. They have tons of vases, dishes, glasses and mugs, most of which cost less than a $1 each, which is great if you break them often, which my roommates do... PETS If you have a dog who loves tearing apart tennis balls and you're tired of shelling out $12.99 for a set of 3 at Target, this is the place for you! They have a huge bin of loose tennis balls in the back of the shop for something like 50 cents a piece. If you have a smaller pet, you can usually find crates and cages in the back as well. Other than that, you can usually find some neat stuff at Ares. Plenty of ceramic chickens and angels, glittery photo frames, VHS tapes you had no idea existed (i.e. ""Homophobia in the Workplace"" circa 1982) and plastic jewelry. Enjoy! more

Glad I stumbled upon this gem!! 10/31/2010

I've only written one other review in my life, but this place was such a find, I just had to. My friend was getting her scooter worked on next door and we had time to kill so I wandered over to Aires Thrift Store. I have never had so much good luck finding really nice work clothes for so cheap. I left with 2 buttondown shirts (one still had the tags on it!), a cardigan, a messenger bag and a pair of beautiful Nine West shoes- all for under $15! more

Way too expensive for a thrift store 3/7/2009

I used to be a regular shopper at this store but it has become increasingly more and more expensive. Lots of prices are actually higher than I've paid in a retail store. You may be able to find a few bargains if you look very hard, but the last three times I've gone in I've been shocked at the prices. It's sad since I would really like to support them. But asking for over $20 for a used top is really off the charts. Pros: Easy to get to. Staff is usually quite pleasant. Cons: All the good items are way over priced. more

SALES,SALES,SALES 4/22/2008

GREAT,ORGANIZED & FRIENDLY STORE. DAILY & WEEKLY SALES. CLOTHING A PLUS,MUST TRY ON EVERYTHING. UNLESS YOUR A SMART SHOPPER & LOOK AT TAGS WHICH I DO NO MATTER WHERE I BUY. SHRINKAGE APPLIES ANYWAYS IF IT'S SECOND HAND. PURSES ARE MY FAVORITE LOTS OF BRAND NAMES & ALWAYS 75% OFF OF LISTED PRICE . BOOKS...CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE.CATAGORIZE THEM? ITS NOT A LIBRARY THATS HALF THE FUN OF THRIFT SHOPPING. Pros: SERVICE,CLOTHING SELECTIONS,JEWLERY,SOME FURNITURE,LOTS OF HARDGOODS. Cons: TRAINING NEW CASHIERS,SOME WERE'NT FRIENDLY LIKE EXPECTED BUT MANAGEMENT TOOK CARE OF IT QUICKLY. more

Disorganized Mess 3/21/2008

I am an avid Thrift Shopper, and I used to love ARES, but it has gone way downhill. Here are a few of the reasons that I no longer recommmend ARES: They do not catagorize their books. They think that anything with a print is ""Retro"" and therefore priced higher. Their purses are priced as high as they were new. The sales clerks are rude. They don't understand clothing sizing. They charge $4-5 for a VHS movie... seriously? Pros: good jewelry selection Cons: jewelry and everything else is overpriced more
